HP to continue making Windows Mobile Phones 10
While HP is clearly making an enormous investment in Palm and webOS, don’t think they’re giving up on their other operating systems, most notably Windows Mobile. While their current sales of iPaq devices running Windows Mobile are less than lustrous, we can’t exactly say that Palm sales are moving along gangbusters either. So, we won’t fault HP for wanting to continue on with Windows Mobile alongside Palm webOS. Said HP VP of Strategy and Corporate Development Brian Humphries during the conference call today:
“We intend to continue to be a strategic partner for Microsoft. They’re a huge piece of our business today, and will continue to be so.”

you mean "While HP..."
I took it from that comment that they would continue with Microsoft, but a non-commit on Windows mobile devices. They do a lot of business w/ ms in desktop/laptop/netbooks.
+1
I can see HP offering Windows Mobile devices targeted at corporate customers where they may sell a huge number of units at one time. Palm can provide HP with consumer friendly devices that can interact with corporate environments but aren't necessarily targeted at them.
I'm just hoping that webos keeps going in the direction it had in mind before the merger.. I know, I know... wrong story..
yea, looking at that comment I would've thought they were talking about Windows for PC etc, not mobile. WebOS is better for both consumer, and business and HP know this otherwise they wouldn't have bought it. Why buy an mobile OS if you plan to use another as well, ie. Windows Mobile?
Its a completely separate division within the company, so, it isnt an issue.
PALM will have access to HP's monetary/marketting/IP resources, just as the HP smartphone division will.
HP gets access to PALM's IP, specifically WebOS and the IP portfolio, which will actually STRENGTHEN their smartphone division, as they can add some more functionality there to there WM phones...
Meawhile, WebOS can then be scaled into new markets (tablet devices, health care and other sector devices), while still being developed by PALM and featured in the PALM WebOS smartphones.
No big deal, Palm's own Treo Pro (with WinMo) was selling alongside the Pre until just recently. Besides, WinMo (
I don't know if I'm missing something here, but this move is what made visions of palm being successfully the iphone killer possible. Hp computing devices running web os formats with windows capabilities from computers to phone and rumors of the tablet now being included. I see true competition forming. If I phones are strongly supported by the mac and apple products, palm now has a revolutionary computing device that it's now from my readings partnered with I.e. The touch screen computer... I don't know about you but I see pure greatness coming with all this.
