HP expanding internal beta tests on new devices 26

by Dieter Bohn Wed, 16 Mar 2011 11:16 am EDT

We are still expecting to see the HP Veer arrive sometime this Spring and the Pre 3 in Summer. We have a sign this morning that these launches may be well on track: HP is expanding a beta test program outside of the Palm Global Business Unit and into HP as a whole. While all signs still point to the Palm GBU still operating as a virtually independent group within HP, it's good to see that they're seeking feedback from the company as a whole.

The beta program - as with beta programs we've heard of in the past - is a rolling, ongoing thing where Palm seeds pre-release devices and software updates to people for short periods of time (usually a couple of weeks) for testing. Hopefully it's a sign that the two phones will hit earlier rather than later in their promised release seasons.

After having to migrate to a Samsung Epic, I really miss my Pre. Here's to hoping the Pre 3 is on Sprint sooner rather than later!

I was thinking paying for a used Epic since my Pre is on its last leg. I could then sell it when the Pre 3 comes out. Sounds like I might not fall in love with the Epic.

I have the Epic as well and it's nice. Samsung takes forever to update though so I wouldn't recommend it unless you are the hacking type.
The Pre 3 looks like it will be a solid and awesome device. I do hope that bigger batteries will come out though as 1150 mAh is way to small...

i believe it has a 1250 mAh. too small still. i put a 1350 in my pre. its centro battery i bought of ebay for for 10 bucks but fits in the pre just fine. it def gives me another 2 hrs of life which is significant... i am sure third party will design extended battery

My wife has an Epic, It is a great pic of hardware and Android has some great apps but I'm not a fan of the Touchwiz UI.

I know I'm being a putz, and seem like I'm whining a lot, but the Pre 2 and Plus didn't do it for me. The lack of apps was difficult, even if the OS is the best available.
C'mon Pre 3! Sooner than later, and good apps, not just games and ****
PS Love there's little or no bloatware on the phone. Thank you.

If you really want all of those apps then the launch of the Pre 3 isn't going to help very much. That will take a lot longer than a few months if ever.

Wishing I worked at HP right about now.. :P

I work at Sprint and should hit up my HP GBU contact for a job. I field test a Pre3 for them. :)

You teaserrrr... Tell us more!

I think he forgot 'wish I could'...:D

Hmmm, why would working at Sprint be relevant to that post unless there was something rumbling in the background with HP?

Confidential information accidentally leaked!

Hmm, maybe we should all sign up to be beta testers. Wouldn't that be cool!

Yea you should sign us all up for testing. That would be sweet.

So kld2009 are you saying that sprint and HP are talking and the pre3 is Coming to sprint or you working with sprint and having an HP contact to different things?

I want to beta test a Pre3 (on Sprint) in the Mid-Atlantic area.

HP/Sprint if you're reading this, shoot me a private message in the PreCentral forums to discuss.

Cheers!

All I know is that HP better release that Pre 3 soon before we all get impatient and jump ship.

Most have already jumped off the ship. Most are waiting in thier android rafts to get back on ship.

can we pls get a nibble or a little something something for hanging on with the sprint pre-. Wishing for a box to be del with hp on it with a new pre3 in it ^_^

well fact is we getting a phone

I jumped ship to a Sammy Epic. After 4 mo adrift, I am back in black on my faithful old Pre. GPS and Bluetooth are way better on Pre, and using it is much better. Support is far better for Pre. (GPS is a bad joke on Epics, as a "known issue" that is never really fixed). Some good apps though.

So bring on the new Palms! (er, HP).

it's short comings were that bad huh?

Had to replace my Pre the other day.... went to the evo, but saved an upgrade for Pre3, if it ever goes to Sprint. After playing with the evo, I can't wIt to see what a webOS device can do with good hardware and a great App ecosystem.... and that was intended as a compliment to the evo, which is a great phone! Also, I was a hard core keyboard guy, but after taking the plunge on an evo, I am easy for HPalm to come out with a slab device without a physical keyboard. I type faster on virtual... never would have believed it (although a good predictive/auto-correcting text feature is a must have).

For those saying they have to replace pre because hardware is failing, I just purchased a used pre in great condition through craigslist. I see lots of them there and on ebay.

Hopefully having these testing Pre3 units out there will result is some more leaks.

what the **** are these websites being posted on pre webos chat block those fools wtf!
