HP Veer, Pre 2 get previewed on SkyTV 41

by Dieter Bohn Wed, 23 Mar 2011 1:21 pm EDT

HP has uploaded a set of videos featuing SkyTV's Mark Bunting reviewing some of their current and future products, to wit: the Veer, Pre 2, webOS 2, and the Touchstone. You can find them all at the source link below or give the above Veer video a look. We hope that the "available for sale very soon" bit comes true - because even though the Veer is essentially just a Pre 2 in a tiny package.... it really is a very tiny package.

I think I am the only one in Ireland with Pre2 so looking forward to more hardware. However it looks like no carrier in Ireland will be selling them. O2.ie seemed to have dropped HP/Palm

i bet anyone who notices your phone has no idea what it is... i have casually strolled into a few Verizon stores to see if they have it on display cuz i want to see webos 2.0 in action on some decent hardware. all the dumb sales people dont even know what it is!! when they ask their manager they say all they have is a dumb phone in the store. wtf!? no wonder webos is a sinking ship.

Take a Pre Plus and put WebOS 2.1 on it the way many of us have. WebOS 2.1 does feel a bit quicker in many ways compared to 1.4.5, and the functional improvements are feeling fairly solid as well.

being that my palm pre's screen just separated from the bottom section, i don't think i am hacking it to do anything. i just activated a spare android phone i had. i think this might be the end of webos for me. i am just tired of replacing them and reconfiguring the phone every time, its soooo annoying. that was my 5th and last one.

Get a Pre 2, it's much better than a Pre-. It can spoof as a Pre- too.

first off i would have to buy it outright and secondly i would have to go through all the work to make it work on sprint. not really worth it being that i have a working phone right now

Night and day compared to creepy Palm girl commercials.

I love how with the Pre 2 video, they come right out of the gate addressing the app issue with great examples of good apps and how they take advantage of WebOS.

Very compelling, I hope to see more of these kind of commercials.

I was going to say this is a light-weight review but looking at Mark Bunting's site and how he gets hired/paid by client corporations, I would agree it is a infomercial. But still well done.

Still too small for my taste but....great demo of webOS features. Hope we see the Pre3 in a video soon!

Awesome, awesome, awesome video. Love the Veer!

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

lol, my favorite line in this video. "It's thinner than a deck of cards!". welcome to 2009 HP.

Finally, someone shows off what makes webOS great! Its about time!

I hope Sprint gets both the veer & Pre 3...or that there's an unlocked version of the veer for a very pocket friendly price! with the palm profile it'd be pretty cool to have my Pre 3 at my side during the day for work and play but when I get home and its time for a workout I can just boot up my veer, log into my palm profile and have a pocket friendly phone with me while I'm working out. This way I have no use for an additional device for music since the veer can do that and some! Here's to wishful thinking!

You forgot call sprint to get the Hex/Dec switched. The world would be great if what you said was a possibility.

Did you notice the speed of the Veer? Very nice I think. Did you notice that Exhibition wasn't demoed when the Veer was placed on the Touchstone? I wonder why?

Who else is getting tired of hearing "very soon"?

""Very soon" is the new "First half of 2009"

Not sure if I can stand it any more. I want my Sprint Pre3!!!

the veer is a beast too small for me but would love my future pre3 to run just like that. It's smooth and fast that's how I know all the lag and checkerboard will be gone when the pre3 is all finished up

Veer is my fan favorite to replace my Pixi,
just pray HP put Enyo on the Veer soon,
otherwise you will have another underrated
device.

That's a great review and video - very impressive.

This is a nice start for advertising the Veer. The best thing they can do is avoid making it a "chick" phone like they did with the Pixi.

the noises at the end of the video scared me like **** xD

Yeah... still no update to Google Maps.

Agree with all, can't wait for all the new hardware to come out. Lisa Brewster (aka @Adora) loves her Veer as she has tweeted this past weekend. :)

Should've had a 5-year-old demonstrate the phone.

I don't think anyone cares anymore...... But have at it hp

I care

well the dumb **** faithfuls do(my self included). but nobody else does. we probably wont hear about a u.s. carrier until feb 2012

for some reason i feel like i still care even though i decided i want the evo 3d, that phone is way hot... i am a fan of webos and want to see what they are bringing to the table, i just dont think i can get a pre3 cuz they are probably not going to release it on sprint.

Video looks great on my Evo..

Was that static on the end of the video on purpose so he wouldn't tell us when its coming out... he he

Did he just say Flash again? What a slap in the face flash has been, I just went to 2.1 on my Verizon Pre+ and the Flash still doesn't work! I do love 2.1 though! Frickin fantastic!

Works fine on my Pre 2.

Tech fans may like big screens, but I talk to quite a few doctors and other professionals who like the idea of the Veer - Synergy of email, Just Type instead of trying to remember what app...

And looking at Engadget, I see more midget Androids coming out, too. I think HP may have hit on something here. I know I like carrying my Pre in my pants pocket again better than the Epic that now sits on the shelf.

But I am a tech fan, and I'll be in line for a Pre3!

these advertising spams from zhengwwo and his likes are pretty annoying...

What we really need to see is AT&T and Verizon really get on board and ADVERTISE, or HP should make some pre-sales commercials and put them on the big networks. Put out a bunch of commercials for a 15 second spot saying "This summer, a new breed of phone comes out" and such, just to get the general public curious. When the phone DOES come out, push it with all the hype possible, get the general public into the idea that the iPhone may be for the "hip" crowd, but for those who actually want to use their phone and talk, use it for business, sync it without plugging into a computer, etc, they WANT a Pre 3, or for those who don't want a bigger phone, a Veer. Then you can TTS and it is on the Touchpad.

Basically, what we have seen, but commercial spots continually to hype what the phones can do, and how for enterprise, small business, or personal use, the new phones make the iPhone seem like outdated garbage in how you use the phone.

You are exactly on target. The key value is "how you use the phone". The people who focus on specs and the size of the app catalog don't get this.

Still focused on specs, the same folks couldn't understand why the Wii would outsell the Playstation 3. I've never been tempted to switch from the Wii because of "how I use it".

Thankfully, HP gets it. I hope they can pull this off.

i understand where you are coming from here. however, specs are important for how i use my phone in some ways. the more powerful the cpu/gpu is and higher rez the screen is the better games look. i am a big gamer, so i am huge fan of nice graphics, as are many. the pre3 is using the fastest version of the second gen snapdragon, while the evo 3d is using the third gen snapdragon and will prob be coming out around the same time if not B4 it! phones using the second gen snapdragon have been out already (nexus s and thunderbolt)... if the pre3 comes out in a timely manner i will without a doubt give it a good look cuz i love webos. i just have an upgrade and a refund check burning a whole in my pocket. i cant tell you what i will do!

I understand that you are focused on games. You definitely have a different use profile than me.

Given that there are always design and resource trade-offs, hopefully the market is big enough to support phones targeted at different audiences, hardcore gamers vs. productivity seekers.

i mean i dont even play games thaaat much but when i do i want it to be awesome. also, i really want a reason to ditch my ipod touch. the pre3 isnt going to do that with a max of 16 gigs (i really dont understand why they limited it to that, i really dont. that alone would stop many people from getting it).

i am sure it has been optimized on the the newer webos devices, but 2 things that i use a lot simply just run like complete gaaarbage on webos... google maps and email. however, i am talking about an older device here, i am sure they will run great on the newer ones.

Gah...that thing is tiny!!!

His finger practically covers the screen.

Definitely not for those over the age of 40, unless they include a magnifying glass or reading glasses.
