HP hires new SVP of Global Distribution, may help push webOS into Enterprise channels 9
In the latest move that may bode well for HP’s expansion of webOS into the enterprise (we covered its new channel plans last week) the company has hired Mark Angelino as its new senior vice president, Global Distribution, HP Enterprise Business. His job will include managing relationships for the many types of companies (integrators, service providers, consultants and vendors) that help HP get its products into the hands of enterprise customers.
From a Palm perspective, Angelino’s prior positions (including sales and marketing jobs at Sprint Nextel and most recently serving as a senior executive for customer services at Salesforce.com, as well as a “long stint at IBM,”) may bode well for his being able to understand and promote the place of a mobile operating system and multitasking smartphones within the enterprise. We also note that, in making the announcement, HP made a point of highlighting Mr. Angelino’s background in "cloud computing, telecommunications and sales," all very relevant for promoting webOS smartphones and other devices.
We wish Mr. Angelino much success in his new role at HP, and hope to hear great things from him about webOS devices in the near future.

someone else from the past for Verizon to dislike...
The move to bring WebOS into the enterprise aggressively is one of the reasons why I was excited by the HP acquisition. Business adoption will boost and drive consumer adoption and the velocity of app development. WebOS will soon be everywhere. At work, at home and in between.
This is what I thought Palm Treo did best; straddling the serious business world while still providing entertainment from the web and onboard multimedia. This should be a great enterprise tool and add tablets and portable PCs and synergistic exchanges between all of them...this is the advanced thinking that both Palm and HP are known for. Innovation with a purpose.
Hmmm, so they got rid of alot (or they left on their own) of the Palm VP level folks, then go hire outside help -- perhaps Palm was in much worse shape managementwise than everyone thought....
Mikey47 Lesson #2 for 7/27
Vice Presidents dont like to turn-in their business cards for new ones that say "Senior Manager".
And acquiring companies dont like to have people on staff, that think they're still supposed to make product or market shaping decisions.
Its great to have you posting Mikey, but would be even better to have you reading.
This sounds like a good move. Good analysis, Jonathan.

I've been saying this for a long time, HP bought Palm for the "Intellectual Property" of WebOS because they want to market it to corporate america/data centers/etc. I think this is a VERY smart move on HP's part. But you won't EVER get corporate america adapt to the PalmPRE. Won't EVER happen.
They may not adapt to the "current" Palm Pre... But HP might have something "PowerUser Friendly/Corporate Savy" up their sleeve with the new hardware (hopefully).
The device is over a year old, why would anybody want that to happen? They wont readapt the TI-1300 even though it's as functional now as it was in 1974. I think you'll see HP is building a device capable of enterprise use, not aiming at the "fat middle".
