HP hires new SVP for Marketing for Personal Systems Group 5

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 30 Apr 2010 5:49 pm EDT

HP has announced that they've taken on Richard Gerstein as the new SVP of the Personal Systems Group (PSG), the division of HP that include Palm when the buyout goes through.

Gerstein comes to HP after a few years in a similar position at Sears, before which he was in charge of marketing for Alberto Culver and also worked for Procter & Gamble.

We've not saying that this is absolutely a sign that HP is preparing to fix up Palm's up-to-now woefully underfunded marketing once the buyout goes through, since apparently the position needed to be filled regardless. If nothing else - we're just saying it behooves webOS aficionados to get familiar with HP and their team in the PSG.

hopefully the entire palm marketing dept will be gone before the meger is done!

hp marketing ftw!

AHHHHHHHHHHHH...MMMEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Palm made 8+ commercials, of which ZERO focused on nothing but the phone, particularly the phone's *real* interface, not some metaphysical hologram machine that is on the other end of some pole that's attached to my (waist? shoe? neck?).

How does Palm's hologram machine actually register my input anyway?? Is there a camera built in the hologram machine?

It is really neat how they got the phone to work while it was in those people's pockets, tho. That was somethin'. I WANT IT!! What's that technology called?

It's called bullsh!t. The marketing people in Cali smoke some really good bullsh!t is all I know. So good that you guys might have to toke some with me. I love the effects, but just not when I'm SOBER!!!

Hopefully HP can just build on the AT&T "promo" ad. You know that AT&T wasn't even trying when they came up with that... and they just put the tens of millions of wasteful advertisement dollars TO SHAME. It was so ridiculously good, that I am honestly going to WALK INTO AN AT&T STORE!!!! Now, I'm not gonna switch to AT&T, but I at least feel like they earned my presence for about 3 or 4 minutes. Congrats, AT&T!

Congrats, HP, as well. You hopped in at the right time to capitalize on an experienced launch partner.

BIG THINGS, PEOPLE. BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING.

lol...

Gerstein has spent much of his career marketing primarily to women. Not a great sign, IMO.

hey but if Gerstein was in any way responsible for the Sears motto "come see the softer side of Sears" then Palm should be in great hands. That marketing was brilliant and stuck in peoples heads. Palm may actually attract a good number of consumers now.
