HP kicks out free app six-pack 149

by Derek Kessler Thu, 25 Aug 2011 9:13 pm EDT

Promo codes are fun and wonderful things. There’s a reason we give away a whole slew of them every week (this week: 20 copies of NDrive GPS navigation!). After practically giving away their remaining stock of TouchPads, HP’s now in the business of giving away apps. HP’s put up a new “six pack” of app promo codes on the official HP Palm Blog, and they’re up for the taking.

The apps? Glimpse [review] ($5.00, by Inglorious Apps), Kung Fu Panda 2 Storybook ($2.99, by zuuka), Big Boss ($1.99, by Fair Play Labs), Sparkle HD ($4.99, by 10tons Ltd), Camera for TouchPad [review] ($0.99, by Keen Studios) and Audubon Birds ($14.99, by Green Mountain Digital).

Update: We got in contact with HP about this promotion to get some more details. First and foremost, even though the developers behind these apps weren't involved in the selection of their app for app pack status, HP is still going to pay them their 70% cut as if they'd actually sold an app. Additionally, HP has the ability internally to generate promo codes of unlimited value, so even though the fine print says "as long as inventories last", you can rest assured they're not going to run out. Lastly, we've confirmed that HP intends to run these giveaways on a weekly basis, so you can be sure there will be plenty more apps to fill up your webOS device in the weeks to come.

MAYBE THEY SHOULD LET ME BUY THE **** THING.

I just can't figure out what HP is doing. This is something they should have done in the first week if not the first day.

I do appreciate it, but I'd appreciate a new phone even more. I've been looking at other os's on phones and compared to webOS there is nothing to draw me to them, the closest is mango which is really pretty cool.

Why did HP walk away from the only emerging market there is left; mobile phones and tablets? It still makes not a lick of sense any way I look at it. And why did they do it the way they did it is astounding. Sofa king wee todd ed.

From the blog:

"And stay tuned for the next 6-Pack of apps (planned for early September)."

Seems like they want to make this a regular thing? Would be nice if they included a six-pack as part of the monthly Pivot editions...

my question is are the devs of the apps gonna get reimbursed for the DLes that are used with the codes?

Heck Yeah

DO NOT USE THEIR LINKS FROM YOUR TOUCHPAD!! It'll take the money from your $50 early-adopter promo if you still have it. Instead use these links:
Glimpse http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=injoj55410gavxv
Panda http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=eotss76676jjzqr
Big Boss http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=vfimk09918lngoz
Sparkle HD http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=pweuq32135vrbhx
Camera http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=rijon62171nhvtu
Birds http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=jjiox66488ddnik

Wish I could get my $30.95 back. :/

Updated to not have https in the links.

Yea, a little sneaky there, HP. I went to download one of the apps and hit the "use promo code" button expecting another window to pop up and give me a choice to use one on file or enter a new code... it just used my $50 and that was it. :/

I'm not sure why; I was able to copy and paste each promo code without a problem. {Jonathan}

I hit promo code and it had a space for me to enter the code from their link, no problems. I decided to get the Audubon Bird App, however, & that download was VERY slow & failed. Trying again now.

Here is the original link. Promo codes are after the name of the App. They also tweeted these are only good for US, but will have other specials coming for other countries:

http://blog.palm.com/palm/2011/08/6-pack.html

Yeah the Audubon Bird App is a huge download (700+ MB's I believe) and failed multiple times for me. I'll try again tomorrow.

Taking up a lot of space for an app i wouldn't use much.

you are out of luck. The promo codes are all used up. Apparently a limit on how many they are giving away. Just like trying to get a TP for $149.

Yeah, same here. I couldn't use Sparkle, Glimpse, or Camera. Those are the only ones I wanted.

Apparently they ain't "unlimited", huh? Ha Ha!

yep, me too. I restarted it again this morning before I left for work. I even sat the TP on the computer desk next to the router.

Ha ha I did the very same exact thing. I tried multiple times last night with no luck. I tried it again this morning before work but had to leave when it was at the install point. It said installing for about 5 minutes but I had to leave before I could see if it was a success or not. Can't wait to get home from work now!

When I checked the TP last night, I had a notification that the installed failed. But when I opened the app, it seemed to be working just fine.

Strangely enough, there was a big hawk-looking bird in the neighborhood. Told my wife we could use the new app to identify the bird!

All of the Audubon apps take a long time to download, and just as long to install. Just let it sit - it'll eventually finish. I wish I could get the $14.99 back on my $50 promo code - Audubon Birds was the first app I purchased with that $50.

Only worked for me with http: not https: ymmv

Good call.

I tried using http: but it just reroutes me to the secure page. How exactly is it working for you?

Had to use the original browser. All good now.

Yeah I was wondering about how to save my Early adopter credit too. I tried your links and it just keeps opening browser page, after browser page, after browser page, and does not prompt the App Catalog. Hmmm...

You need to make the links http and not https. It will work then.

These links don't work.

I thought I'd just enter the promo codes manually, but it wouldn't let me. It just used my $50 promo credit.

They need to fix this.

I had no problem pasting in the promo codes. I *did* have a problem installing the Audubon app. Crashes during install every time...

Thanks for the tip. I was able to save my other promo amount.

Thanks again.

I think there might actually a bug in the App Catalog. I used a promo code a few weeks ago, and that same code always auto populates the promo code field whether I use a link with a promocode, or if I just open the app catalog itself.

ty for this. Just got off a chat with them about this. They are escalating to level3.

Btw, they asked for logs. I said what logs are you looking for. I have logging turned down/off via preware.

He said "Are you using Preware".
I said "Correct".
He said "HP does not recommend using preware".
I said "Funny since HP donated money to the folks who create preware". :p

HP should recommend preware. This tablet would be much closer to useless without it.

The only patch I have installed on my TouchPad is the Theme for transparency. And there are only about 26 patches for the Touchpad, anyway. None of them add any game-changing features to a stock TP, other than the new kernel for overclocking. You are in a very small minority of users who would agree with you.

Phone useless, yes, tablet no...

Please let us know what they say. PM me if you hear back. Thanks, Dave!

I just tried to download Sparkle HD and it said the code has reached its limit and is no longer valid. Since when was there a limit?

awww. I wish i read these posts before i did the downloads from teh App Catalog =(

I called the HP Butler Service to ask for a refund for the early-adopter charges from these so-called free apps. The Butler agent said I should call the developers directly and ask for my refund. I was like --- waaiiit! HP published the promo so why do I have to go to each developer?

Also, i told the agent -- i am complaining about this technical bug on the catalog, i.e. why won't it allow me to use diff codes and why will it automatically deduct from my early adopter promo code without asking me first?

HP -- please fix this bug before you release the next promo codes.

Yeah, I tested it on the $.99 camera app and saw that it deducted from my remaining free $50. I was scrambling to find apps to buy before using the free codes, but now I am going to try your links to see how that works.

lol. scrambling to find apps to buy :)

Doesn't work in Canada :(

HP hates your poor Canadians.

Not sure making a 786mb app like the Audubon one free would be great for their servers, but the HP team seems to have a masochistic side to them, so there we are. Certainly appreciated.

Yes, if the install didn't crash...

I really wish I could have purchased a firesale touchpad, but alas I was to slow. :(
I would love a touchpad and would not put it on ebay.

Seriously, it's worth the $299 - $350 some resellers are selling it for, even if support peters off after a couple years. (If, and that's a big IF, you are satisfied with the apps that are currently available. You get a lot of functionality out of the box, though...)

If I hadn't already bought one, I'd probably jump at it...

Used all the Promo Codes except the Birds thing. Just go outside to admire them. Just watch the bird **** Don't let it get on your TP.

Oh, totally disagree! I have become addicted to watching AND identifying birds and this program will be AWESOME. I am sooooooooo excited by this!

Folks, get on this right away, before they change their mind, or they say "Out of Stock"! I just downloaded and I can't tell you how excited I am to get some legitimately cool stuff for free. These aren't throwaway programs!!!

Good on HP for doing this, makes my new firesale TouchPad worth it even more...

how do you use promo codes?

love my Palm Pre2 . USA

Hmmmm... promo codes good through Aug 31st at 11:59pm... UPS says Touchpad scheduled to arrive on Aug 31st... hope it's not late!

I am scheduled to get mine the day before. I had Glimpse on my list to buy, so I am hoping.

It's kind of a shame that they expire it so close to when a majority of people are getting their devices. People would have had their devices earlier and been able to take advantage of the deal if HP had been able to deal with the rush of people getting these.

Then again, it's a free gift. I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth even if I do miss out.

I purchased my Touchpad on July 13 and I still have not received my $50.00 app credit despite four conversations by phone that have gone nowhere. 1st time they were cluless to the program. Then I received a phone call wondering why I gave that 1st person poor review in survey. She assured me I was eligible and tat it was slowly being released via email not just put into palm profile like I had seen some had found theirs. Waited week for the email and called back with service # she gave me. Told again that they were still sending out the email and for me to keep watching for it. Now it's not just about the apps but how is HP going to continue to **** me this time. Paid 599 for mine and this is HP up to their same old game. If any body could help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

If you log into your Palm/HP profile, you will find the HP 50.00 promo code near the bottom of the page.

I'm having a similar issue. Here's a question for you - is the email account you ordered the touchpad under the same as the one on your palm account? Mine isn't, and I'm wondering if that's why the credit hasn't shown up. (No email, no mention of the credit on my Palm/HP Profile page. Boo I say, boo!)

I was not notified either. logged into my WEBOS Profile accouunt online and the promocode was just there. Take a look.

I'm guessing this will not work on a Sprint Pre?

Not even with WebOS App Catalog 2.x installed. Its the wrong device :\

haven't been able to install the Audubon Birds which I just purchased today at full price ;-(
now I think I understand why
their servers must be doing overtime!

downloads fine, but the install fails every time. 6 tries now. Looks like a cool app. Hopefully it will work tomorrow or something...

I tried for 12 hours before it finally downloaded. Then it took about 30 minutes to install for some reason. Keep trying because it is worth it!

So glad that they made it right for us Pre Minus folk

Thanks for sharing this tip. Such an awesome outreach program by HP. Good for them, good for us.

when I try to download the camera app, it says something to the effect of "this applicaton cannot run on your OS, please update ur OS. I just updated to 3.0.2 this morning, which is what the app requires.. If anybody knows a fix that would be great!

had a prob with my contacts and calender even after the up date. talk with suport and they told me to do an erase apps and data and then resync and that worked for me. that was when i was setting it up.

Let's not forget...H.P. sucks. I won't forget.

Ditto. This is a diversion (albeit appreciated). Until HP gets another h/w vendor on-board, I won't be spending another dime on that company...

I'm trying to download these apps. A promo code box pops up upon the app market launch, but no code is visible. I only see a date. Any idea why? Thanks.

I had to copy paste the codes individually. When I just clicked the links it would put in the wrong codes. Just a heads up to anyone else having problems with invalid codes.

loving my new touchpad. Have not been able to put it down since I purchased it on Saturday. Was able to download everything but the birds app it keeps giving me an error during the install. Will try again tomorrow. I wish I could teather it to my Blackberry so I could take it with me to more places but all and all I am very happy with my purchase.

I just searched the app catalog for these titles and purchased them from there using the promo codes above. I still have some of my early adopter credit left and it didnt take any of it.

Thanks PreCentral and all my new TP neighbors! Just got email receipts and as promised, all apps were free, just select purchase, then"use promo code" instead of second purchase option! I hope this helps.

Audubon must be pulling a "Best Buy" and refusing to go along with the new app fire sale!

I had trouble, I think because of the $50 dollar app credit. I kept getting "invalid code messages" until I changed the links to these. Also, I deletrd the "Modal Payment Dialog" app from my software manager (which I think is from the promo credit?) before using this, but I DON'T KNOW really what effect that had. Try the links first before doing any changes.

Glimpse http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=injoj55410gavxv

Panda http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=eotss76676jjzqr

Big Boss http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=vfimk09918lngoz

Sparkle HD http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=pweuq32135vrbhx

Camera http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=rijon62171nhvtu

Birds http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=jjiox66488ddnik

They should open the app catalog to the application page associated with the link. Push the green buy button, but instead of hitting the next green purchase button, it the "Use Promo Code" button. It should apply ir automatically and start downloading for free. You'll get a receipt in your e-mail for a $0.00 dollar purchase.

Who the -F- would -1 you??? This is the best way to get these codes without using your $50 early adopter code. +1*10^700000! jcerwinske.

Wow, this is getting really interesting. Hp is finally doing what they should have been from the beginning. Which makes me really wonder what their plans for webos are.

Btw, I was able to install everything except the Audubon app. It finishes downloading but fails during installation. Anyone else having this problem.

Got all of them to work except Glimpse. Says the code has reached its limit and is no longer valid. Is that just me?

That's the only app I care about so it would be great if that worked.

I get the same thing. Guess we got to the party late!

HP needs to generate a new code, then. This is a must-get app...

bird app fails for everyone right now I guess, server overload?

HP is trying to really get folks interested in the app store . Having the user base with credit cards on file is a big selling point to developers.

HP is going to try and sell this OS to all the phone manufacturers now that a user base exists. The more excited users are, the more apps and the more interest hardware manufacturers have to sign up.

this is all part of HP's plan to move into the cloud, they want provide the os and the background services.

the crazy thing, is they just came up with this plan after google and moto got together and the touchpad caught fire!

Trying to install the Audubon Birds and it downloads fine the starts installing and fails every time after about 5 minutes. Anyone else see this?

Anybody else get this error while trying to purchase Glimpse: "The promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid."?

I gor Big Boss and Camera. All others gave the same "The promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid." popup. Bummer. With any luck, though, HP will do the right thing and fix the expired codes.

edit: I was able to get Kung Fu Panda Sotrybook as well.

Gah, I really want some of these! And Camera should come already on the touchpad. To bad mine wont arrive till Sept 1-3! Think I'll be able to put the webOS 2.x app market on my palm pre and activate these so they are at least tied to my account for when I get my touchpad in?

There's already a free camera app in the catalog and it works pretty well for me. Mind you I didn't try the Camera app listed in this article though.

Sparkle has reached the limit as well.

wooo! gotta love free apps...now if I can only find a touchpad!

go USA!

Yep... Already "sold out"

So tell me now if this isn't all about a strategy...
Now that you got the users you are also consolidating them. Great move HP Gratz!

not for Europe :(

Cool 6 expired promo codes. My confidence is restored.

Yay, more stuff that's "sold out" within hours. Well, at the very least, everybody commenting about these expiring so fast (like me) has a touchpad, right? I'll focus on that for now...

seems like all the codes are already used up. That'll teach me to go out at night.

very interesting... these promo codes led me to the discovery that my touchpad thinks it's in Canada. I'm in CAlifornia, not CAnada. That explains why I can't find Pandora Radio in the app catalog either.

I just got off a web chat with HP support; the first-level support guy was very helpful, and confirmed that my Palm Profile shows my Pre+ as being USA but my TouchPad says Canada. He didn't have the power to fix it himself, but had me send device logs to level 3 support (PALM support, not HP thank you!) and assured me they will fix the issue.

As to how it happened, no idea. Having been a WebOS user for over a year, I KNOW how critical the country selection is when setting up a WebOS device, so I really don't believe I could have accidentally selected Canada when I set it up AND not noticed it on the confirmation dialog.

argh! I see from the posts above mine that now I've missed out on all the free apps because of this problem. I first tried to get the apps many hours ago, and if my profile hadn't been screwed up I'd at least gotten some of them.

edit: now it occurs to me that HP probably will at some point extend this offer to Canadian users, by which time my "canadian" touchpad will have been virtually returned back to the USA. doh!

sold out !!!!! meeehhhhh

US only = :'(

As usual, I am a day late and a dollar short.....

Anyone want to post their impression of the Audobon guide? How are the sounds? i really wanted to try this one out - maybe they will release a timed trial demo or something before I plop down $15.

"How are the sounds?" - I pulled up Cooper's Hawk (local to my area), put the songs on loop, held the TouchPad to the open window, and chased away a large flock of grackles from the backyard. :)

I like the Audubon apps (I have Birds, Wildflowers and Trees). Some problems with the text - newline codes are showing, instead of being functional. I have a well-used 30-year-old "Reader's Digest North American Wildlife" book that is falling apart. These three apps are replacing the most-used portions of that book.

All codes are 'sold out'. Totally lame. HP really needs to fix this.

So early US owners get $50 app credit and now free 6-pack of apps.

Come on HP, sort our your other regions!

There was an article recently that said HP was incapable of managing webOS (without hardware, mind you), and I disagreed. After all, they're huge, manage enterprise software, yada, yada, but I'm starting to agree now. They're no better than Palm at that whole configuration management thing. Sigh...

I've had a Palm phone from the beginning and I can get the codes because they are already out so fast. Not everybody can participate at that time. How about a few waves of codes to be fair. It been like 9 hours and they were used up.

I'll make sure to be ready with my pre2 for the next giveaway! Wait, what's that you say, TP only...wow there's a shocker.

no longer available! Just when you made it right for me HP, you do this! You are back in my craphouse!

hmmm...blog says nothing about a limited number of uses, but they are, indeed, sold out.

Actually, it does:
------------------
App Promo Rules

.... Promo codes are available for as long as inventories last.

Damn, figured I would miss out on these. My TouchPad is still in transit. :(

So I saw this and my first thought was "WTF", But I figured why not

Fired up my TP, went to the App Catalog tried Glimpse first (Got good reviews) "The promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid."

Funny - I didn't see any limit in the Palm Blog, But then again this Is HP, and this is "As Cool as HP"

So I tried Camera next - good thing 3rd party apps supply what HP left out (too bad we can't get a 3rd party back facing Camera also).

This time I was told that the app was not available for my OS, and I should try system updates.

So I checked, the OS is 3.02 build 68.

Again "Cool as HP"

So I gues I'm SOL, but I'm getting used to that from HP.

Good thing this Company is so into Customer Satafaction. "Cool as HP!"

It actually states on the official blog (http://blog.palm.com/) " The promo codes below will expire on August 31, 2011 at 11:59 PM. Promo codes are available for as long as inventories last." I'm guessing "inventory" of promo codes has run out since the swarm of PreCentral locusts have struck yet again... foraging off of whatever we can get our hands on, whether it be a firesale touchpad, a discounted touchstone, or even a few free apps from the app catalog. Beware, the locusts may be coming for YOU next!

getting message that "this promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid"

Yup same here, all gone I guess, I was only able to get kung fu panda! yipee! Kids will enjoy it at least :)

They only provide a limited number of downloads for the promo codes. If the maximum has been reached, you get that message. Unless they change the limit, the promo code will no longer be valid. First come, first serve.

They ought to be supplying early adopters the codes first then send the rest of the world the information after the loyal folk have gotten theirs. Oh well you can't expect them to give out hundreds of thousands of promo codes. This would get expensive real quick.

The following are the 6-pack apps and promo codes:

Glimpse ( injoj55410gavxv):
Kung Fu Panda 2 Storybook ( eotss76676jjzqr):
Big Boss ( vfimk09918lngoz):
Sparkle HD ( pweuq32135vrbhx):
Camera for TouchPad ( rijon62171nhvtu):
Audubon Birds ( jjiox66488ddnik):

Unfortunately, it looks like they're all gone now - I just tried each of them and manually entered the promo codes, but each came back saying the code had sold out.

Boo. That didn't last long!

Huh, I see the offer says "while inventories last."

It's a digital download, that should be infinite inventory.

All sold out... seems like a trend.

Man, I love coming to this site and reading the craziness!

I love it.

I think when I finally leave webOS I'll still come back for my daily entertainment.

OK, call me greedy, but I'm really irked that I used up part of my $50 early adopter credit on a "free" app. Not only that, because of that issue, I have missed out on the chance to download others from the 6-pack because of the inventory limit.

Like the guy (sarcastically, I presume) said a few comments up: "Confidence restored."

Has anyone had any success getting their credits restored? I, too, have been "elevated" to level 3 support and sent logs.

Once again, we are left to HP to "Make things right" for the early adopters.

I finally got the Birds app to install at 4:30 in the morning after failing about 50 times last night. Everything else installed last night.

Now as for the codes expiring, what the heck is up with that? How do you "sell out" of a virtual product? So they put an undisclosed cap on these and also told us that the offer would expire Aug. 31st? That's a little sneaky. I do realize that they will have to pay the developers for these and so they have to put a cap on the total, but they should've at least disclosed what that number was.

read the blog.. They are STILL paying developers 70% of their fee for the app.. Free for you.. Not HP..... I didnt get my free apps either.... But $15 app with $10.50 to the developers times ... Let's say 500 downloads is $5250. Figure tens of thousands downloaded it... Lotsa of money... Let me know if they start again tho :-)

"This promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid.”

Nice trick HP.

Well that sucks. :-(

Great so not only have I paid full price for my TouchPad, not been given a rebate for apps, but as I am in the UK I do not get the free apps.

HP really really need to get their act together or sell of webOS to somebody who really cares about it.

At least the UK *could* get the pre3. HP didn't have to give free apps at all. It's costing them to provide these limited quanitity free apps.

I bought 2 of the 6 apps from my own money before this was announce. And luckily I was able to get the other 4 before they ran out of promotion code. Either way, I'm supporting the Developers that's willing to stick to a dying OS.

Finally got Audubon Birds to install :-)

"Additionally, HP has the ability internally to generate promo codes of unlimited value, so even though the fine print says "as long as inventories last", you can rest assured they're not going to run out."

What does this mean exactly? Will they provide new codes for these 6 apps? I really just want Glimpse. It's cool that this free app promotion will extend into the next coming weeks but if we can't get these first 6 apps, I'll be bummed. Can anyone confirm whether we'll be able to get Glimpse again?

If you really want it, you could BUY IT.

None of the promo code worked for me says they are all used up. :(

Pretty crappy

Maybe it's because I live in Canada?

HP can't even give stuff away right.

Invalid codes outside of US ... no 50 bucks promo code in my profile ... unclear how much money HP will reimburse here in Germany ....

I never thought it would be possible but HP is pissing me off more after they killed webOS than they did before.

"you can rest assured they're not going to run out." That has not been my experience.

Some said invalid code, some said the promo code limit was reached. I was unable to get any of the codes to work.

Yeah, I don't understand that comment either. It makes sense that software can't run out but these promo codes simply don't work anymore. It's cool that they'll offer more apps later but what about these?!

To Precentral:
"Update: We got in contact with HP about this promotion to get some more details..."

Well it looks like you better get in contact with them again. Nobody after yesterday can use any of the codes as they are all 'gone' per the HP App Catalog, no matter what the HP rep said.

The Promo is over. All the promo codes are invalid now.

Derek

Your Update says "giveaways on a weekly basis" - The HP/Palm Blog says "And stay tuned for the next 6-Pack of apps (planned for early September)."

Did you mean 'Monthly' or is HP really going to do this weekly?

Great! Codes expire in less than 24hrs! Way to go HP!

BTW....does anyone know if all the firesale tablets are eligible for the $50 early adopter credit?

I am pretty sure the $50.00 credit is for early adopters of the touchpad and not the firesale buyers.

I am pretty ticked off because every time we use the code it says that they have reached their limit. So if they ment to make the codes unlimited they better fix it before it pisses off more touchpad owners as a cheap publicity stunt.

I don't get it...

"Additionally, HP has the ability internally to generate promo codes of unlimited value, so even though the fine print says "as long as inventories last", you can rest assured they're not going to run out."

How is it possible that they can generate codes of 'unlimited value' when these codes have actually reached their limit and are no longer valid? How can there be 'inventory' on digital downloadable item?

Not to question your integrity Derek, but I think you might want to tell HP needs to recheck their facts...

missed it! I thought this is unlimited until end of month.sigh

This article is wrong they DONT have lots of codes. Its the next day and they are all saying that you cant use them. So you need to get your facts straight PC!

as previously stated:

read the blog.. They are STILL paying developers 70% of their fee for the app.. Free for you.. Not HP..... $15 app with $10.50 to the developers times ... Let's say 500 downloads is $5250. Figure tens of thousands downloaded it... Lotsa of money...

HP picks the apps to offer, to you/us, for free. They are only going to offer so many downloads. Once they stop offering the free downloads, HP still has to reimburse the devs for those downloads. Yes they are digital downloads, but those still cost money.

Is that any clearer? It's a game of chance. The next round, you maybe the one who gets the free apps while someone else won't.

the only one I couldn't get was Glimpse. Maybe that code/link will become active again. All others are pretty nice though. Thanks. Looking forward to the next batch. Now that I have this new TP, I find everyone loves to bash it. I tell you, I have used several of the ipads and love the TP much better. Seems faster, feels better, and more user friendly. It doesn't seem like the reviewers are being honest with their assessment of the TP. Oh well.

I haven't been able to use any of the promo codes. It tells me "This promo code has reached its limit and is no longer valid"

My Touchpad finally arrived and I too could not use any of the promo codes. Yup, my Touchpad experience has started wonderfully.

I hate to rag on HP, it's great that they give free apps. Maybe, though, "good until 8/31/11" should mean the codes are good until 8/31/11. Within three hours of this posting Glimpse was unavailable. I'll buy it anyway because it's a good app and I want to support the development community.

I, on the other hand have no problem "ragging" on HP - they Earned it, and COntinue to-

This Blog, and WOR both reported that HP would "be available soon"( http://www.webosroundup.com/2011/08/hp-giving-out-free-6-packs-of-apps-t... ).

Yet here we all wait. Kind of like we all waited for the Pre2, and the Pre3.

I guess all we know when they will come.

Thanks for nothing codes used up pretty lame not to let everyone have the games or apps. and I thought older apps were suppose to work none of the stuff i bought on my pre work they all try to play full screen and the graphics are all messed up. I thought they were to play in a window im really starting to see why hp gave up on it. AT 400-500 dollars so not worth it.100-150 seems right cant wait for Android to run on it
