HP kicks off TouchPad developer workshops, next scheduled for April 28-29 11

If you’re a current or prospective HP TouchPad developer, HP has some good news for you: they want to help. Only bad news is that you have to got to the Palm campus in Sunnyvale, California to get that help. The first group of developers is starting work today, with a second session scheduled for the weekend of April 28-29 (Friday and Saturday). Developers in attendance will get to work with HP staff on how to implement the Enyo framework, work with the PDK, and general user interface/experience design issues. Oh, and did we mention that they’d get to test their apps on a real live working TouchPad? Because you do get to do that.

If you’re concerned about the cost of making that trip all the way out to sunny California, fret not. HP’s Sean Lindo posted to the Developer Center Blog that they will soon be expanding these TouchPad developer sessions to new cities. We like that HP is reaching out to developers and getting them the time they need with unreleased devices so that they can develop and test their apps – hopefully this will result in a vibrant and bustling App Catalog filled with TouchPad-compatible apps on launch.

Hey HP! April 28 is my birthday! Can I get a Touchpad?

I really hope that developers take to the device.

Get one in Orlando Florida already! Party will be at Universal Studios!!!

YES!!!! Please come to Orlando, FL. This would be a great area for a Developer Workshop. You have virtually every major theme park in the world around here with tons of things to do after workshop classes are over.

Not only that but the world largest IT Medical Conference (HIMSS11) just had it's event in Orlando,FL. It was pretty sweet, I got to see the BlackBerry Playbook up close and personal at the conference, but there was no HP Touch-Pad showing medical X-Rays, but I'm sure it's capable of doing that.

ORLANDO, FL.......MAKE IT HAPPEN HP!

PEACE!!

Me thinks we need an TouchPad App Counter on the frontpage!?

Aiming high with a guess of 10,001 apps on Launch Day!

P|C site operators - U gonna rename/parallel P|C to/with WebOS|Central?

So does this mean the thing won't launch until at least May?

ROLF, summer doesn't even START until June 21. And Palm has never been at the front of the delivery windows, they dwell in the final 20%, so put your money on Labor Day. Three weeks earlier than the true deadline.

I'm thinking late August, just in time for all the back-to-school shoppers to buy their iPads. Really though, what ordinary consumer's going to buy this hulking behemoth? It's 40% thicker and 20% heavier than the iPad. I have a xoom, both thinner and lighter than the touchpad, but still somewhat uncomfortable to hold up for long periods. I'm afraid HP is making us wait for what's going to turn out to be an unpopular and short-lived device. They absolutely need to get a sexier form factor out, which will leave early adopters in the cold (sound familiar?).

Ohmigosh!!! I'm so surprised HP is doing this. I thought for SURE that they were going to PUNISH devs for that dastardly "leak" of their emulator.

would love one in Ireland
