HP launches site promoting HP mobile apps; webOS not there yet 15

by Jonathan I Ezor Thu, 26 Aug 2010 10:35 pm EDT

Though it's not (yet?) a follow up on our earlier story about impending in-house webOS apps from HP, we found it notable that HP has gone ahead and launched a site listing the apps they've made available for mobile devices. The site lists apps listed for iOS, Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Android. In other words, looks like those webOS apps from HP employees aren't quite ready to go live.

An anonymous source let us know that HP's contest for employee-created apps was open to all and thousands participated. The timeline was fairly short (around a month) and employees were working with the emulator instead of live devices - so the suggested result of 500 apps that run the gamut from 'super-simple' to 'really cool' is actually pretty impressive.

We don't know how many employees will be getting the free Palm phones we previously heard about from HP CTO Phil McKinney, but to our mind a company that seems to casually toss around an extra quarter billion dollars to stick it to Dell shouldn't skimp on swag for their own people

In any case, the new site seems like a very logical place to find HP's webOS apps once they're available - of course in addition to the webOS App Gallery.

slowly but surely it's all coming together.. Am I first? Dang I'll wait a minute longer so I'm not first.. Hahahaha

Hope they make some good apps

I would say at this point you can't doubt HP's intentions with WebOS any longer. Anyone who does now is just trolling and should be "downranked to oblivion" if that were possible on P|C.

+1 The three iPad apps and the four iPhone apps listed thus far prove your point.

WTF.......why wouldn't HP showcase WebOS first and foremost

Explain to me why HP didn't (still haven't) ported every one of these to webOS week one of the merger? Developement on the webOS version should have been happening from the moment that the announcement was made to purchase Palm. There is no excuse for webOS users not to have HP's own Snapfish app.

Might be holding them back as part of the great pending WebOS relaunch. At that point, the current site could be relegated to a link that says "apps for other platforms".

I agree its a bit odd, but it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Hmm... let's see. One app per engineer times 37,000 engineers = a lot of possible apps!!! Wow, I've already seen a bunch of cool apps in the app catalog. I'm not envious anymore of those other mobile devices. Everything takes time guys, it's all falling into place! Yeah! And sporting a 1GHZ kernel!

And their new site only has 5 apps! Imagine how many webOS apps we're gonna see!

I need to make an app for doing up quotes. It will need to store the results into a database and Sync it to a PC.

I dont know what program to use, what programming language or what database will run on Windows Mobile.

Any help will be appreciated

ps...I will pay for a sample (source) code that is able to do basic caculations, store the results and sync it to a pc. It will need to work on a HP iPaq, and I will need a tutorial on how to compile it into a working app... please email me with how much u want

If WebOS is going to be HP's "Flagship" mobile platform, shouldn't they construct a dedicated Website branded by HP? Especially since a plethora of WebOS apps is on the way to coincide with the release of next generation Palm devices and WebOS 2.0. I'm just sayin'

If you don't think that almost all the web sites/pages/links are ready to go, your nuts. When the big WebOS/HP kickoff happens the final links take 5 mins.

+1... or at least this *should* be the case.

Maybe I'm just old but what's the link to the site?
