HP lists TouchPad on Amazon (but not for preorder) 48
HP has taken one more step toward actually selling the TouchPad to customers: it has listed it on Amazon.com. Although the TouchPad shows as "currently not available," and there's no pricing either, the page allows Amazon customers to request an e-mail alert when it is available, and (more importantly for those of you with summer birthdays or anniversaries) add it to your Wish List.
From the specifications on the page, this is the Wi-Fi version, which has already been announced as the first to hit the market:
- 9.7” (1024x768) Touch Screen Display; 1.6lbs; 13.6mm thick
- HP webOS Mobile Operating System; Dual Core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor; 1 GB RAM
- 16GB/32GB Storage; Wireless 802.11bgn; Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR; Flash support
- 1.3 MP Front-facing Camera – video chatting capability; HP Beats Audio Technology
- Accessories: TouchPad stand and Bluetooth keyboard
Oddly, it also lists two USB ports, which is probably a typo, since everything HP has announced indicates that the TouchPad has a single microUSB port.
Warm up your credit cards, folks; it may not be fast enough to suit the faithful, but it does really look like we'll be able to buy the TouchPad in the near-ish future.

First. Other then that sweetness.
I want IT NOW!!!!
Though thats only the 16gb version. I want the 32gb or 64gb if they make a 64gb one.
Product description says 16/32GB options...
I'm not sure if this a good question or not, but shouldn't the Pre3 and the TouchPad come out at the same time? The only reason why I feel this way is that the Tap to Share feature can be used right away.
The Veer also has that feature so as long as the Veer comes out at the same time you can still have that option to start using that feature right away.
I am so torn. The touchpad beats my ipad so bad in OS, but the apps... Netflix and a GOOD office editing program are necisary. Had quick office on my ipad and it's HORRIBLE. A smartphone needs doc editing features, a tablet needs doc creating features... And quickoffice is no where near that efficient in that department. It's features are horrible. I use keynote and pages on my ipad. Those are good examples. But then I love webos's system so much better, real web, notifications. I hope HP is working on apps...
What makes your think the QuickOffice implementation on webOS tablet will be the same as on iPad? The thing is loaded on shipped devices. I would expect HP to have a certain bar for QO to be meet.
Well, wait for quickoffice to be released and then see. They certainly have had years of experience on mobile. I would hope your Ipad impressions don't apply to webOS version. Since Touchpad is meant as a consumer/business-friendly device having a good suite is critical.
Me too. The quick office on iPad is certainly not enterprise level. It's a simple editing app. Has text formating, image adding and basic alignment. And pretty much that's it for Docs. For presentations, add basic shapes and that's it. No transitions, no themes, no animations, no page formatting line spacing ect. Hopefully we can get a more robust experience.
Does anybody have a link to it on Amazon guys?...cant find it.
below the article, it says Source: Amazon.com. Just click on Amazon.com and it takes you right there.
ohhh...right.. thanks hdawg5000!
Still no HDMI or SD card slot but the 2 USB ports have been intrigued. I have also signed up for the alert I am quite eager to have this in my hands.
Also the fact that is up on the site, even though there is no date/price indicates to me that it is coming sooner rather than later, could we really see this in april/may?
As mentioned in article and actual HP specs, there is NO usb ports and only micro-usb.
I expected at least 1 usb before the release of specs. So don't expect it. i would expect a microusb to usb connection device very soon though.
In the product description on the bottom it says "HP launches the sleek and sophisticated HP TouchPad mid-2011."
nice! I know what I'm wishing for! Hp needs to get their stuff 2gether and learn how to get their products to market. I believe webos is the greatest and best os for mobile devices to date but no one will know it or experience it if hp doesn't learn how to supply for demand. Customers do get tired of waiting. Apple seems to understand this even though their products are arguably inferior.
Have you even heard of HP, largest computer manufacture in the world?
hardware wise the ipad2 is superior, software (OS) is a different story... i am just basing this on the fact that the touchpad is the same size and weight of the first ipad while the ipad 2 got much thinner and lighter, while also having hdmi out... its kinda funny that HP designed the TP with almost exxactly the same dimensions as the ipad then apple comes out with the ipad2 and its vast improvements (many are saying its not that big a of an improvement but it really is for just a one year upgrade). despite all that i still would rather use a webos tab. ios is reallly boring to use especially on a tab. it really doesn't take advantage of the large screen.
I have been using an iPad since Christmas, and am regretting not having waited for the TouchPad. I like the iPad, but i LOVE webOS.
In all fairness, though, the "HDMI out" for the iPad is a $40 accessory.
The processor, screen, and RAM (unkown for iPad2 I think) specs between the iPad2 and TouchPad are fairly similar though, right?
The iPad 2 definitely wins the fight when it comes to cameras, thickness, and weight though.
I know what I'm asking for on my summer birthday.
I cant find it on Amazon. Did they take it down?
I wouldn't call Apple arguably inferior after delivering two products prior to HP's first. I was a faithful Palm follower for years and HP/Palm has done nothing but scourge me. Bought the Pre expecting decent Docs2Go, but HP's craziness left me with a Pre & no office. Also -- battery life was HORRID, even by SmartPhone standards. An update 1-year later fixed that. NOW, they are stiffing me on the OS 2.0 update. What a rook. I have a 6-year old Mac that still gets updates, and an iPod a year older than my Pre that is still getting S/W updates.
So if HP is planning to treat TouchPad 1 users the same way they treat original Pre users then I'm not sold. It had better have some jammin' apps if I'm gonna buy a TouchPad that weighs MORE than iPad 1. I also note no mention of PRICE or BATTERY LIFE. As an engineer, I bet HP isn't happy with what it's getting in its testing or it would have at least given an estimate.
TouchPad is looking more vapour-ish the closer we get to launch. I'm not sold yet. It's their job to impress me over iPad2.
why do you people keep bitching about webOS 2 update? nobody knew about webOS 2 when you bought the Pre...so it was fine then...
are going to buy the Pre3 and Touchpad expecting to run webOS 6 on them whenever they come out?
Ah. Well, if you are serious, then you have made my point for me. If Palm didn't know about 2.0 when they released the Pre, then they aren't planning. Instead, they appear directionless, reactionary and not working a plan. YES, actually, I did think that they would keep updating my phone OS longer than 12 months after purchase. Yes. Every other product I have does that -- why not expect that from Palm/HP?
This, too, is part of the competitive landscape.
That said -- I DO want to see HP/Palm provide some needed competition here. I WANT to like their product, but they are making it awfully difficult at this point.
Updates...yes...not OS overhauls...I think HP would have been better off renaming webOS...perhaps in the style of Apple...webOS 1...webOS giraffe...or gazelle...or something...
Nice to see. But no search on Amazon finds it. You have to be "an insider" with this link. I see little purpose to it this way, though it has to change at some point.
... or maybe HP is waiting for Enyo to mature, apps to be developed and work on both enterprise and consumer friendly software so they can hit the ground running. The last thing we need is for a device to get launched when it's not ready (see pre-).
Maybe this backs up the rumor for a March/April launch ?
... or maybe HP is waiting for Enyo to mature, apps to be developed and work on both enterprise and consumer friendly software so they can hit the ground running.
True, this was their first intentions but maybe because of the tablets, XOOM, iFad2 etc launching much earlier, could of had them switch it up... I guess we will see!
semi-double post. Wtf!
Watching West Coast Customs build a Denali for HP. They are using Palm Pre's for in car Wi-Fi hotspots.
Wow, that's pretty sweet. There is a TP in there too

Well lets hope that whenever they release it the software will be flawless. There is almost no room for error. With all the iPad 2 love out there it will be hard for any tablet to get an honest look by the tech sites.
Lets also hope that "Making it Right" for current owners has something to do with owning a Touchpad and or Pre 3 (on Sprint but not sounding likely :( ) at a reduced price.
HP satisfying the initial webos users would b the best marketing/PR they could do. we are the ones that spread the love for WebOS. without them buttering us up they wont have any traction in the market and will continue to run into the wall... dont get me wrong i am routing for them, but with the lack of updates on my pre its getting harder and harder everyday. ALL i want is some decent spell-check/auto-correct/predictive text... is that much to ask for in a smart phone OS these days?
D.O.A.
HP did just waste time and money developing a mee too product, which will be available MONTHS after the competition - and still remains (slightly) inferior to it.
Really, sell it now or fail with it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this works in the office. I can wait a few months.
As someone ("kupe") pointed out in the Treo-central forum, this was put up on the 9th of feb (the day of the announcement) - we can draw nothing from it.
I can't wait for this I like the ipad is pretty cool but I'm so use to palm webOs that the Touchpad will be a nice to have !
I love webOS and even like my Pre+ on AT_T. I'm not happy that we're being looked over for a 2.0 upgrade, but I can live with that if they really come through for us. I hope that HP finally gets their sh*t together to get this out there with a big push so that developers and users get on board. I'm tired of being looked upon like the red-headed, b*st**d step-child. If not, I may be following my significant other over to the Android dark side. It would sadden me since I've been with Palm since the Handspring Phone Springboard.

First off, this is a sad attempt to prevent on-the-fencer's from purchasing an iPad2 this Friday @ 5pm. It's akin to blackberry announcing they have one during the launch of the first iPad and not showing any hardware. Second, for those who think HP has got their stuff together and will "make up for it", c'mon...it's HP! They have always, and will always suck. WebOS FTW, but HP FTL!
Looks like they took it down
It has already 2 "customer reviews", 5 stars. WebOS fans. Guys, HP does try their very best, but the core dev team is still Palm, so expect them launch something "in emergency" at September 21, if ever :-b
Back to no news I see.
So torn on the TouchPad. The delay to market is just excruciating. Apple really knows how to build a tablet/phone.
Sad to see these devices still be plasticy. If only I could install webOS on a iPad...
The apps are lacking, the missing NFC... I really don't understand. I dispise Android, but man you have to admit. Those phones can do some cool tricks.
If you check out amazon, there are numerous cases already listed for Touchpad. That's mildly comforting that accessory companies have started producing for Touchpad now. Anyone heard of Casecrown?
