HP Pre 3 coming to UK on August 31st? 46
In the US, the word is that the Pre 3, which is the big brother to the Veer and a smartphone that has been sparking debates and discussions for months, is now slated for a Fall release. In the UK, however, the story is told a bit different, and those interested parties can now pre-order a device through Play.com to be shipped to their homes on August 31st (for £399.99, and it's still bit later than the previous Mid-July release we saw last week).
Interesting thing to note here, is that August 31st still falls in the Summer Season, which is what HP promised on delivery. Even if the US product brief states a release in the fall, HP can still hold true to its promise with a summer Europe release (which is looking more likely with each bit of news that comes in), much to the annoyance of loyal fans in the States.
We might caution you to take this news with a bit of salt, though. The amount of shuffling that's been going on with the Pre 3, from a July 8th release, to mid-july, to pre-order now, out-of-stock and finally an August 31st release, has us all a bit confused about what to actually expect. We aren't entirely sure if that listing on Play.com will last very long either, as other listings have been removed since. At the very least, we do know that we'll see the device ship by the Holidays, though that certainly doesn't give us any real comfort about what to expect in the coming months.

If I take more rumors "with a grain of salt" coming from HP, My heart will explode from high blood pressure. Give us something credible already....!
Impressive, Sir! You took the words right outta my mouth.
Here's something credible... HP is dropping the ball with webos. First the Veer, then the touchpad, and now we just keep getting more bad news about the pre 3.
Still no exact release dates. It's been pushed from summer to fall. No carriers announced. the pre 3 specs are going to be outdated by the time it's released.
I'm so pissed at HP for pushing so many people away :( and now i'm turning into one of those people ...I can't believe i'm saying this but i'm actually considering an ipad2 and going to see if the iphone 5 will be coming to Sprint.
After exploding from High Blood Pressure you will than have to go visit a Doctor, a webOS Doctor.
I have the exact same feeling,s my friend. I actually did make the plunge and got an iPad a few months ago. The only way I see myself getting a Touchpad now, is through the HP Launchline contest. That way I'll be able to compare them and decide which one win will my heart over, like two knights fighting for who's gonna get the princess.
...umm yea that analogy sounded a little weird in retrospect.
This thing needed to have been out last year.
There may be critical parts shortages resulting from the Japan disaster.
All it takes is one part from a manufacturer who sustained severe damage and the production line is halted.
Car production is almost back but nobody is talking about any other products being delayed, but given the size of the disaster you can be sure some production lines are affected.
If no one else is talking about any other products being delayed, perhaps that's a sign that they aren't. There looks to be new news daily about an iPhone 5 release in September.
The Pre3 was going to have difficulty with the iPhone 4 if it was released a week after it was announced. The Pre3 can't be competitive with a lower screen resolution than the iPhone 4 while being released near the iPhone 5.
The flagship webOS device has to leapfrog the latest iPhone for at least 6 months. It can't even compete with the same specs... due to the number of apps for the iPhone.
It looks like the Qualcomm 1.4ghz chip hasn't shipped out in any phone yet unless I'm mistaken.
The MSM8660 is clocked at 1.5ghz max. It's underclocked in the Evo3D, likely for battery life.
Edit: I realized you were talking about the single-core SoC. I was obviously talking about the modern dual-core processors.
Just throwing this out there as a possibility.
Perhaps the phone internal hardware has been upgraded last minute?
Yes, I am trying to keep a positive outlook. :)
I'm a giant WebOS fan but I've been scouring the interwebs to look for the best Sprint/Google phones out there and forthcoming.
It is called EVO 3D my friend, I got it few days ago and it made me almost forget about WebOS.
By the time this phone hits stores it will suffer the same review issues that the touchpad did. Last years technology & too big and bulky.
HP, you need to put out HARDWARE! And no, the veer does not count. Sorry. I guess I will wait for Samsung webos phone at this point.
Do you mean an "HP Envy" type superphone? That is what the build quality should be like.
I don't understand why it is taking so long. WebOS 2.1 is already out on the Veer, unless there are major issues with the hardware or they are adding additional features, this device should have been released with the Veer or TouchPad.
I think maybe they are adding dual-core to the mix or something. There is no real reason for a delay, as this and the TouchPad are their flagship devices.
Lol at HP redesigning their product to modern specs. They had that chance with the Touchpad and we got the same, tired form factor. Samsung had that chance with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and they got it done in roughly 2 months. If HP tried redesigning the hardware now, the Pre3 would be out around Christmas 2012- and the hardware would still be ancient.
My guess is they will push that date soon to end September, if not later.
To late. 6 1/2 month after anouncment and 3 3/4 month till since 1 year after anouncment. LOL! fail.. sorry webOS :-(
Goodbye Pre3.
At this rate if there is a slab WebOS phone. It will be shown Feb 9th 2012. Come out Nov 2012. Iphone6 will have then been out over 3 months by that point.
So Evo 3d or wait for Galaxy S II on Sprint? I donwannndoit!! Please HP and Sprint, hook me up with a Pre3.
I'm waiting for the Galaxy SII only because my wife already has the Evo 3D. That's 2 less customers, HP, not that you care since we're consumers, not enterprise customers.
SII. I'm waiting...
It's crazy how much better the Android hardware will be than HPs by the time the Pre3 comes out. I love WebOS, but when buying a phone to last the next 2 years, I don't want hardware that's already 2 generations behind.
Ya know the Glaciers receded faster then HP moves. Just sayin.
I work for HP and asked the HP EPP store when they were expecting the Pre 3 to be in stock. They advised they were expecting stock later this month FWIW.
I think Pre 3 release date would not be much behind. After the TP 'fixes' are rolled in OTA, the TTS feature of the TP won't be complete without Pre 3 (or an updated webOS for Veer ). So TP won't be a complete equipment without such a major feature and HP wouldn't want that! It won't be good either for enterprise or consumers. HP is now under the gun to fix the 'issues' of TP within weeks, and then release the Pre 3,,,,all are tied up now! Plus HP's prestige :-).
just bring the veer and the pre 3 but if they don't run ads on tv like RIM is doing at moment in the UK(playbook is everywhere)...they are doomed to fail.
i'm just torn about getting a touchpad,a pre 3 and an opal;i can't afford 'em all
I just placed order for htc evo 3d, so sick of hp **** so pulled the trigger an ordered android if i like it, goodbye webOS
The only thing I really miss about my pre is the touchstone charger. Everything else about the Evo 3D I can live with. You'll like it.
OMFG They're killing me! :`( I hope JayTay is right, but the hold up is probably as much or more with the carrier(s) at this point. . .
you know i went to check out a tp at bb and still this website is screwed up. you cant post from a tp but you can post form a ipad. how do you guys not see a problem with this? why cant you fix it? since may this damn problem has been going on and still nothing. im all over the forums and no reply. smh................
No one cares about the Pre 3.
I care. :)
not sure i care anymore
Looks like my next phone will be either Droid Incredible 2 or HTC Trophy. Tired of waiting.
im curious.
after reading so many posts about people converting to other phones/os, what does that say about the pre2? is it not worth it either?
and thats a genuine question, cuz I might get the pre2 and wait til later to purchase the pre3 (if its still around).
I thought all the problems Palm had getting new products out the door would end once HP took over, seems it's exactly the same :o\
I've just pre-ordered mine from Play.com - at least they will give me an update when HP tell them anything about actual availability.
To be honest, I'm not sure HP know yet when they will be releasing it - I suspect they are having long drawn out conversations with the carriers around trying to actually get any of them to take it.
HP have only got one card to play here - the webOS card. This is the key differentiator for HP - specs and size don't matter as long as the actual phone performs well.
HP reminds me of a old company named Palm. They used to take ages to release a new product.
How long can we wait?
I have had my Pre since day 1 of its release. As a long time Sprint and Palm pda user, it was the best of both worlds. I love it so much I got everyone in my family one.
Now with old hardware, no upgrade to the webOS and no real date or carrier's on board for the Pre3, lack-luster launch and reviews of the touchpad, I am beginning to wonder if I will still be a webOS user by the end of this year.
HP/Palm's lack of ability build expectation, to deliver technology that is a step ahead of the rest and in a timely manner is a great case study in how great devices die off.
I'm about to preorder from play.com but they say that they have the 16 Gb version, can I trust that? All other sites I have found got the 8 Gb version and no date when they will ship it.
My old Pre is disintegrating (a few too many drops on the floor). I couldn't wait any longer, so I am going with a Pre 2 - less money out of pocket. Maybe I will upgrade in a year. Who knows - Pre 3 might be out by then!
I was really looking forward to the "mid-July" release so I can finally upgrade from my 3 year old Centro. I had a feeling that date couldn't be right because there aren't even any review units doing the rounds yet (unles Precentral are holding back on us!)
I won't be going to android or iOS though - webOS is the one for me when decent hardware finally gets released. In 2016.
I'm holding on (& my iPhone leaning wife) till the Pre3 comes out this fall.....hoping the delay is for a simultaneous release on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
Sprint is the trump card on the delay!
Please hope I'm right
...and here we go, ladies and gents, fanfare please: another STUPID decision from HP!
Geez, I wold probably buy Pre 3 for the previously rumored price (~350 Euro) straight away, unlocked. But 400 pound sterling? good luck
Go & f..k yourself, you stupid HPalm arseholes, I am done with your stupidity. Just you watch your $1.4 billion investement going down in flames.
I hope you pi$$ off enough of your shareholders, so SOME heads start rolling - I am specifically longing to see Rubinstein's, and who's the other clown, the "fan & lamp" compromitation?
Anyway. Got to do some legos with my kids. You are waste of time and space, HPalm. Bye bye.
