HP's new VP of Worldwide Developer Relations: Richard Kerris 5

by Derek Kessler Thu, 10 Feb 2011 12:30 am EST

At tonight's developer event HP introduced their new VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, Richard Kerris. He comes to HP from Lucasfilm, where he became their CTO in 2007. While at Lucasfilm, Kerris was named by Variety as one of the "Top 10 Innovators to Watch." Before that, Kerris worked at a company that Jon Rubinstein referred to as "that other company," (i.e. Apple), where he was a senior director of developer relations. Kerris was on the stage for only a few minutes, giving a bit of a pep talk to the hundreds of developer present, stating that there's going to be some rough patches before things get better. We take that to mean "Yeah, it's going to be a while before the HP Veer, Pre 3, and TouchPad are out to run your new apps." Either way, welcome to HP, Mr. Kerris, we're sure you'll do great things.

Please tell me he had no part in any of the sequels. Or the existence of Ewoks. Or Han shooting first.

Guys from Precentral, you are working hard and giving us a lot of info...we appreciate that. Since many people are very disillusioned from the news today, please forgive us for not thanking you for what you are doing by being at the events and giving us on site analysis and review. You are definitely putting in efforts worthy of praise.

Same thing about the homebrew community. I am impressed and thankful for you all.

As for the leadership of HP/Palm...based on the buildup and outcomes of today...I was taught by my parents that if you can't say something nice, perhaps it is best to avoid saying anything. I'll take that advice (for now at least) and end my post.

+100

Everyone at PC is doing a great job! Forgive me for being underwhelmed by the phone announcements from HPalm today.

bring back the lucas art games like full throttle to webos.

gee, how many execs is it going to take to get quit hosing webos up.

Precentral, Preware, and WebOSinternals are the backbone of Palm evangelism. It's sad that HP chose to screw the Palm installed base while at the same time, screwing developers by not making the devices available to them well in advance of their arrival in the summer. Meanwhile, the iPhone and Android will be gaining many more apps than WebOS and who will want to do any sort of exclusive app for a forgotten platform?
