HP TouchPad now available in the UK and Canada [UPDATE: Germany and France too] 22

by Tim Stiffler-Dean Fri, 15 Jul 2011 8:47 am EDT

If you live in the UK or Canada and have been waiting to get your hands on an HP TouchPad, today is your lucky day. While many customers who pre-ordered the device have already received the TouchPad and accessories through the mail, other residents can now head out to local stores like PC World or Best Buy to get an HP tablet in their hands today (though accessories have been difficult to find in some regions).

Cost of the TouchPad is comparable to the pricing of the device in the US, with the 16GB wifi-only model coming in at £399 in the UK or $449.99 in Canada, and the 32GB version hitting £479 (UK) or $549.99 (Canada). We still have yet to hear about other countries that we know will be getting the TouchPad this year, but we can't imagine it'll be too much longer before we are told about official releases in the rest of the world.

If you're heading out to grab a TouchPad today, let us know in the comments below, but don't forget to read our review as well to see a full rundown of what you should expect with your purchase.

UPDATE: The TouchPad is also now available in France and Germany. Go get 'em!

And [link:]what you shouldn't!

Anyone seen any demo units in PCworld or other stores? I'm going into my local store to check later.

They had there own stands in Carphonewarehouse and PC World in Milton Keynes today. They were still setting them up though . . . .

Have fun, guys! You'll love it!

Indeed!

HP only have the 16MB in stock.
The 32MB units are apparently due mid August.

When I spoke to the sales line 2 days ago - the accessories were also due in 2 to 3 weeks, but now I see that they are available!

GB?

Handspring is re-releasing the Visor?

Both my local PCworld's say that they are not stocking them. They are for order only

Honeycomb 3.0? :-)

Glad you all are getting TouchPad. Hopefully, App full store is available from day 1.

And that Www.hp.de is sending them out since the 28th of june is defined as not available in Germany? Got mine since the 29th of june.

Just walked into PC World Aberdeen UK and bought a 16GB version (they had 2 in stock), they indicated they had 32GB ones as well although I didn't see one.

None were on display yet, they were in the back.

Setting it up as we speak.

I went and used the demo unit at my local Staples today, I was very impressed. I even had to show a few of the employees how to use it!

Hopefully I will be buying one very soon as my wife works for staples, management said the first 400 employees (in Canada i assume) to buy a touchpad get an additional 20% off the price, they already get 10% off all electronics, so I am hoping to score a touchpad with a 30% discount!

TP has been available in France since July 1st, either in shop "Fnac" or HP website.

In Fnac they have small display with Two touchpad and Touchstone.

Sales guy were not really informed and one issue is that there should be more apps installed as people do not know how to do it.

Got mine since 10 days in "Fnac" and love it, just received today case and touchstone from HP website!

It arrived in Ireland today to, I was playing with one in the PC World store near to where I work in central Dublin today, and it's sweeeeeet! I'll be holding out for the GSM (cellular) version before I buy one as I want something that's not tied to wi-fi availability.

Just got mine and man do I ever have a lot of apps in my profile that for whatever reason isn't on my Pre! Went to 3 different stores...FutureShop, Staples and BestBuy and none had the Touchstone or 'official' case. I'll be picking those up ASAP. Happy, happy, happy, happy............. :)

I was pleased when I went into best buy (canada) and saw a nice endcap display with 2 functional touchpads, and a bit of a group hovered around it with a very knowledgeable salesman (he said best buy sent him to an HP seminar for it). I wasn't too sure if I wanted a tablet, but webOS on the big screen is the stuff dreams are made of! I also convinced a guy who came in for an iPad to get the touchpad instead. He loved the way everything worked and felt so fluid. I had to reassure him that the apps will be coming though... Don't make me a liar Devs/HP!!

There appears to be a probably with HP marketing. I went into my local Pcworld to buy a Touchpad but they said that they did not stock it but in wandering around the store I found that yes they stock it but it is not called the Touchpad but called the HP Tablet. A friend of mine in the US Virgin Isanlads went into Office depot, again it was not called the Touchpad but again it was called the HP Tablet. The shop had never heard of the Touchpad. Hp need to correct this because they are loosing sales with the wrong name.

I saw the Touchpad in the flesh for the first time today in my local PC World (UK). I had to ask where it was, otherwise I wouldn't have found it.
No fuss made about it in the store, wasn't even with the rest of the tablets, just shoved on the outskirts with netbooks.
I don't think anyone else in the store even clocked it.

I enjoyed using it but wasn't overwhelmed, it was pretty much what I was expecting really, which I suppose is a good thing as I had quite realistic expectations after my Pre and Pre 2 experience. It was nice and easy to use and handled flash well.

For Spain, price has dropped from 499 and 599 euro, to 479 and 579. Mmmmm! Do not know waht to think of it
