HP Veer 4G appears in white on AT&T 158

PocketNow has scored a press image of the Veer clad in white plastic, fulfilling many a person's dream that it would be offered in colors other than black.
The Veer also sports the AT&T carrier string as well as an "H+," which is yet one more piece of evidence that they'll be branding the device "Veer 4G" on release. That release, by the way, still doesn't have a clear date. PocketNow is suggesting it would launch next week, but HP has yet to give any clear indications other than "Spring."

Read my post again - Brushed Steel is not polished metal (which the last phone was) and as far as I know, there are no carbon fiber bodies out yet - only speculation. But my point was they should make something that no one has on the market YET. If Palm is trying to separate themselves from Apple they shouldn't come out with glaringly obvious similarities.
its just a color! apple didn't invent the white color so anyone can use it. calm down guys, black phones are black phones, white phones are white phones and pink phones are just pink phones. nothing special about it. you know, cars come in different colors also.. i can get a white mercedes or white bmw. who came first...?!

It's a shot at Apple who cannot deliver an alternate color at launch. Palm and webOS have been poked fun at for so long give them their due to turn the tables just a bit now that things are ready to turn around for them.

don't the carriers ultimately decide the final spec for phones they carry? att has been in bed with white since apple made them gobs of dough. let them try to sell whatever they want. i am waiting for my pre 3 4g on sprint anyway.

I don't agree with "barf" at all. The Veer is going to be marketed to a younger crowd, most likely feminine. Having multiple colored cases to accessorize with is a great idea. Make the cases cheap enough and girls will snatch them up in all colors to match any outfit ;)
I sort of want to agree with you, but my 19yo daughter [into fashion in a big way] is chose a black iPhone over the white one just this week.
I tried to talk her into a pre2, but she insists on an iPhone because of the music library and all the music she has and will purchase from iTunes. Since "music is her life" she wants access to iTunes...
I don't love the white, but AT&T is known for having white phones...
Agree with your comments about your 19yo daughter. A phone is now a status symbol. Kids want to be cool and fit in with their friends. Every kid in America wants or has an iphone. The ones that don't have them, have parents on carriers that don't have the iphone ex Sprint and Tmobile. That doesn't mean I want the iphone, but kids are into fashion and what is perceived as cool.
I think they should release them in ALL Colors!

You should poll which carrier more people are curious about. I doubt Verizon or AT&T would win.
Its sad to say but the Veer is so small, it cannot hold a CDMA radio so probably never see it on VZW or Sprint
What? How is this true? A GSM phone will always need to accommodate a SIM card. There are plenty of really small phones on Verizon/Sprint. I refuse to believe that a CDMA radio is too big. Also, look at the Centro. CDMA on Verizon... 'nuff said.
I have to agree. This is so bad I logged on to comment on how it is really bad. I kind of hope this is a really late April fools joke. It might be okay if the bezel was all white, buttons were silver and maybe the led strip lit up blue or something. Please don't let this be an indicator of how HPalm only gets it 95%.

if the whole thing was white then it would of looked better, with the front being black it looks like someone just put on a white phone cover.

I'll second that. I think it looks really cool. Better than an all white phone that takes forever to get released, and turns out to be thicker than the black version.

No, I like it too. If the Veer is going to be branded as a 4G device, chances are the Pre 3 will be as well. It might satisfy those that think AT&T has a 4G network, and want a 4G phone.
I also like the colors other than black, although it would've been nice if they offered designer covers like they did with the Pixi.

Kind of looks like a penguin too...it's quirky. Maybe a white tux in a room of stodgy black tuxes. I still would like tie-dye though.

It won't stand out in my local Verizon store as their counters/display areas are white - it will just disappear and appear as an empty shelf.

My wife uses a Pixi, and while she's relatively happy with it, I just couldn't use that as my day-to-day device. I don't wanna carry that and a tablet just to be able to web browse, look at video podcasts, and watch TV/movie video over lunch or when I'm at a friend's house.

If they didn't use a black face, think how horrible the UI would look. The top menu and the notification bar are black and have rounded corners to make the screen seamless. Would you want those to be white as well? It would be a bit too bright IMO and would distract you from the content you have on screen.

lol funny how you guys say how bad this looks! But I bet you are the same people that buys Blue and Red cases for you phones, or maybe a pink Gel cover lol!! I cannot tell you how many people buy cases for their phones and iPods and they are almost always colored! So now that HP makes a White one its a bad idea? How many poeople said the White EVO was horrible? How many people said that the Pixi colored touchstone covers were a bad idea??
I think this is great, I love the 2-toned look, I wish there was a view of the back to see how that looks but this is great!
Not to mention what a great phone this is going to be!! Smaller than a deck of cards, its going to be able to fit anywhere, yes it only has an 800MHz processor but I dare you to find benchmark tests of the T-Mobile G2 and you will notice that it is almost 3 times better than an EVO. Benchmarks are up there with the latest big boys... and guess what the G2 processor is the exact same processor in the Veer! So this Veer is not only small, but powerful!! Are you going to watch movies on it? Well no, it is too small for movies and videos! Yes it might be to small to do heavy surfing but who really sits there and surfs teh web hour hours at a time on a phone? If you need a bigger screen you take your Veer and touch the Touchpad with it and surf on the Touchpad! I have used a Pixi and the screen size is fine for emails, texts, games, music, hotspot... Like I said using a Pixi, it will be fine for all that. Guess what, screen size is the same size as the Veer, the Veer will fit in your pocket, your back pocket, you shirt pocket, it will fit in a ladies purse and hand bags, heck you might even loose it because its so small.
I think this will be great and I cannot wait until I get my hands on one!

I don't see the big deal no matter what color it is....I know a number of Iphone fan boys & girls can't wait for the long delayed white Iphone, frankly it doesn't make a difference to me.
If this helps so be it. My wonderful Dad who is gone just over 7 years, was a product engineer for design work in metal & plastics for the Toy industry, (as well as for the packaging of the finally product. I hope I remember this correctly. He said, generally speaking clear plastic is the weakest in terms of strength and darker color plastics are stronger....
Therefore if I remembered correctly, a black case on a phone should be more durable, (that is if it is the same color thru and thru the plastic and not painted or vacuum plated.

Why do so many people seem to be upset by having multiple color choices? "Since I didn't design this and would prefer something else, no one should like it!"
If there were no alternative to this color, it might be a mistake, but I think it is safe to assume there will be a Veer that is all black as well.
Get whichever you like. Choices aren't terrible things to have.
Is the silly headphone clip-on going to be white too? This phone is going to bomb, they should have released the pre 3 first, this is not the phone you want to relaunch with, unless people shrink to leprechaun size over the next few months.

Kind of agree... this isn't their flagship phone so i don't understand why you would do your first launch, as HP's company, w/ a product like the veer... i could see it maybe as a second launch product... but the Pre3 should have been first.
I think it looks ugly, yet neat at the same time. Also the different color schemes give me an idea of how they are gonna market these things. The won't just be phones, they'll be accessories.
i wouldn't be surprised if you'll be able to decorate these with markers and crayons...

Damn all you raggers! I think it looks pretty sweet. The all black front highlights the glass screen against the white. The white bar below the screen helps bring it together. It helps that most of the open cards are white too :p, but still. People love white phones, idk why but they do. White Evo, White iPhone, people eat that stuff up. Oh and I'm pretty sure the person that said the bar on the bottom should be blue only said that because the background of the phone is blue, haha.

PreCentral has become almost completely overrun by unhappy raggers, bitching that the phone isn't the right size, the right shape, isn't on the proper network, the right color, ... And, since it isn't those things to those people, it obviously is NOT going to sell and MUST be the stupidest idea ever. How many of these above posters are not even in the market for a Veer, anyway? They are waiting for the Pre3, but just had to comment (negatively) about this! More narcissists on here than on ESPN.

Actually, I've got some paint chips, and if the Veer doesn't match my bone white chip EXACTLY, I'm going to complain about how HP never ever, ever, ever, will sell this thing and never gets it right and never...oh forget it, I'm not even having fun making fun of the complainers anymore...I think I'll just start looking forward instead of caring what complainers are saying. That's too bad, because sometimes there are things to complain about, but come on, there's a limit to inappropriate comments.
Most of it has to do with the lack of good news that has been coming out of HP until now. When there is only a trickle of information, people will pour over each nugget like rabid hyenas and will complain bitterly if there is something they don't like in it. If HP wants people to stop complaining, then it needs to open a spigot and start releasing devices. The nice thing about all this is that it appears that HP is finally going to start doing this....
Reminds me of my old white Creative Zen Micro. White plastic can look pretty nice as opposed to black plastic.

OcFirst off let me start by saying how much I love love love webos! Next let me tell u how much happier I am with my DROID Pro! Now u might ask y im on Precentral if I don't have a Pre...well like I said I love the operating system! Android actually has around 10 'task manager's that allow u to switch between apps mimicking Webos..the apps are what make a phone! And my DROID Pro with its 1ghz processor and all the qwerty goodness and free music and thousands of apps free navigation that runs flawlessly....all and all its AWESOME.....GOOD LUCK HP

It's not about copying Apple but having options, like buying a black car or a white car, two tone or solid. It's called choice by the way, love it, like it, or hate it, you still have options.

That phone is amazing! And revolutionary!! I never would have thought to put a dry erase board on the back of my phone! I can prep my presentations ahead of time now! I just hope it comes with really tiny markers.

Besides, you could link the Touch to Share feature to detect the mood based on the color of the backing, and then to automatically post updates to your Facebook, FourSquare, Twitter, and Bitter (for the complainers) accounts simultaneously! I think I've got something there! Still want royalties...

i wonder if android users gave the evo this much **** when it came out in white...accusing it of copying the iphone OR welcoming new options. if i remember correctly...the white evo4g has a black bezel around the front too with prominent blacks contrasting in the back....personally the veer looks aesthetically pleasing; it's the small screen that i'm more concerned about. then again it's not marketed to a power user like me so even if i didn't like it's physique i shouldnt really be bothered by it.
i think if hp was really going for an iphone replica maybe they would have released a slab as opposed to a portrait slider ;)
this is, by far, the ugliest phone i have seen in a while. this reminds me of the colored versions of the blackberry torch, although this one is much harder to look at. this phone looks like a rather large oreo..
I was in at the AT&T affiliate store here in Tulsa, OK. today and they didn't know what a Veer was. One thought it was a movie. In any case... I directed them to precentral (they thought this was a cool site) and showed them the phone. All of a sudden... the manager and two other people got on the store system and found the Veer! They said release date was this coming Monday! I saw this myself. Bad news... Store order = ZERO! Number of phones in transit.. = ZERO! The store manager said that didn't mean anything... cause every few weeks phones show up and they are not in the system. She told me its terrible as it throws the inventory off! In any case... I stood there while she called a divisional manager and of course got the voice mail. She took my name and (sprint) number and said she would call me. In case she doesn't I have her card.
GOD ! Any idea if or when this is getting a release data in Japan ???
