HP Veer in FCC systems, small enough to be a ghost in their machine 30

by Dieter Bohn Sat, 12 Feb 2011 4:08 pm EST

About the only surprise related to the Veer appearing in the FCC's systems is that it was filed under the Palm filing code instead of HP's. It's also a bit of a surprise to some that both the FCC and Palm managed to keep it under wraps until the proper date, but it's a new era for both.

Otherwise everything you knew is still here: GSM bands, P160UNA codename putting it squarely in the North American zone, tiny little label to go with a tiny little body, and a first test going way back to August 2010.

Ha this post is about as quiet when Ruby first showed off the device on stage!

(...Insert crickets here!...) LMBO!

Well said. what a joke haha

Why isn't that a silhouette of a 4 inch shiny slabby goodness... oh why why why?!?!?

Amen. Don't forget 4G too.

The Pre 3 is going to have AT&T and T-Mobile "4G." That's good enough for me at this point. I also don't want a slab. I prefer to have a keyboard. I prefer matte as well lol. 3.6" is acceptable, but I'd like to see 4" on the Pre 4.

I don't mind the Pre 3 form factor. I do like it. My main beef is that there is no LTE. Unfortunately, I won't get the AT&T and T-Mobile 4G versions because I am a CDMA guy. Also their coverage reach just isn't enough for me.

I second that emotion! Now that Nokia is effectively "out of the game" and HPalm is releasing the same old phones with minor updates (I know the OS has changed [looks the same] and the processor is faster [can't get past the form factor]). I don't see how the market could get behind this. I know I've been waiting so anxiously for a slab from HPalm. What are they, blind? WTF wants 3 year old design "again"? Oh, the hugemanatee!

I'm getting a 2 core slab phone if anyone's interested.
I love my Pre+ and our time together has been so sweet, but it's time to join the other phones on the shelf. Sigh, better to have loved and waited for better than to have never loved at all. I'll miss you Precentral community.

I dont think they will prosper "really" prosper again makes you really think what goes on in peoples heads! lol. So long Pre Hello Windowsphone7

Why knock it everyone? HP has made their decision and now they have to live with it. I doubt this will be a success, but let's let the market decide now. My part of the market is moving elsewhere to make room for their new customerbase.

jon rubenstein needs to get fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAWN Lol they already had there last chance with there "think beyond" event in my eyes. What happened to there other broken promise from one of there top guys who had said devices would be ready to ship after that event just a few weeks after! (How abt thinking NOW). Att adding anymobile unlimited calling was just the push I needed. Goodbye Sprint & Palm (R.I.P) & hello Windowsphone7 :) Hp has alot of catching up to do to regain what little share they have left. & I dont think the Veer is a good start!

If you're going to switch to AT&T (I think that's a bad decision in itself due to my personal experience), then you should definitely pick up the Inspire 4G or the Captivate. I certainly wouldn't be getting a Windows Phone 7 device.

To each there own right im digging the Lg quantum

their

Although this phone is too small for me, I do feel that it has potential. In the many blog sites I've read over the past couple of days since the 9th, I've seen plenty who hate this thing...but then I see many who are excited to get it. Why do people talk down on devices just because it's not what we want? Don't accept just an OS, accept the whole package. The Pre 3 looks amazing with it's bigger hiRez screen and quality built body. So what it hasn't changed it's look...why mess with a good thiing? I'll bet WHEN a slab is announced those waiting for one will find something to complain about. It's overwhelming. HTC makes a buch of them go try one of there's. LG makes them too. Samsung even has a few. HP knows what they're doing...webOS is alive and well.

I dont even need a 4inch screen I just feel that there big hyped event as a whole was not what most people were expeciting of them to really! catapult them back. No good new devices ready to be shipped & no updates as promised well see.. Until then im happily enjoying my Lg Quantum & think Windowsphone7 now has a big enough lead that they cant & wont catch up!

The event was exactly what I wanted. They brought out a bunch of devices that I have been wanting for a long while. The Pre 3 may be the perfect phone for me. I think that they came out and more or less did what people were expecting. I didn't think that any of the announced products were going to be released tomorrow or even any time soon. I also don't want a slab phone. If I did, then I would have an Android phone right now. The Pre's form factor is what makes it the Pre. However, now that HP has control of the reins, there may be an expansion of the webOS form factor spectrum, but I think it is fine how it is. As for the Veer, I think that it was a bad move unless they target it towards women and children. My hands just simply won't operate with that phone. The screen also isn't big enough, the hardware isn't fast enough, and it just doesn't appeal to me. There could be a market for it, but it's certainly not my demographic.

P.s couldnt resist saying this device should stay a GHOST! adios

JEER !

I don't get it. Why does everyone here seem to just want an iPhone? If you want a slab go buy an iphone or an evo or a droid incredible or a sony or one of the million other slabs around. If you want someting original and running webOS then stop the complaining and do what you can until the pre3 is ready. It has all the hardware you could want minus 4g (which won't be available where I live, albany ny for probably 2 years anyway....) so big deal. You love palm? Chances are you love it because of the pre, not in spite of it.

Ruby has a good thought that once people are going to start carrying around Tablets, they'll want a smaller that essentially will just be used for voice calls/texts/and hotspot for tab. Unfortunately, it's still too early for that given the yet nascent marketp penetration of tabs. Maybe in ayear or more likely two, but not just yet.

maybe they shoulda just made it a mini slab to begin with with a stylus lol

They should offer discounted Veer, Pre2 and Pre3 bundles with the Touchpad. Maybe a family bundle as well with a couple phones and the Touchpad.

Combine that with a mobile hotspot feature for the Touchpad to connect to the phones. The Touchpad will probably pair with other devices like the webOS toaster, washer/dryer, fridge, car.

Get/build some more mainstream apps and get these devices out fast.

Oh and throw in large loyalty discounts/rebates for people who have existing Palm profiles. The real world beta testers that, for some unknown reason, want to stick with it deserve some reward.

I think HP needs to change the new slogan
"Think Beyond" to
"Think Beyond HP, way Beyond!"

don't get me wrong I love my sprint pre. Sprint is where palm grew. And now they're leaving it. So. I think I'm gonna be done with palm after this. As for other sprint palm users should be. Then lets see how they feel when they're userbase drops in half . And guess what. I won't be coming back

I didn't think they announced the carriers yet. I certainly hope Sprint is onboard because I see a Pre3 and a tablet in my future. Good things are worth waiting for, and a few more months are ok with me. I like the form factor of the Pre, but I think in the future HP may offer a choice. I think people are expecting too much in the first year of ownership by HP. Give them a chance.

I like the WP7. But, the phones are not customizable like the Pre. You can't even put you're own ringtones on them. I've had my Vzw Pre+ since July 10. I can't upgrade for 13 months. So by the time I can upgrade, the Pre3 should have the kinks worked out. My Pre+ works fine, it has free Mobile Hotspot and it's customized the way I want it. Yes I'm disappointed in the HP announcement, but I can't do anything different for months. Might as well hang out til then.

I think the veer is an awsome concept.... Minus the adapter. That's just dumb.. Who the hell wants to carry around an adapter just to listen to music. That's not going to go over too well with the masses, and therefore will be a huge failure.. Why not just make the phone a little bit bigger and include that jack... "they don't know jack".....lol

I don't see what all of the hate is about.
If don't want it, don't get it. I won't be making fun of any slate phones they announce.

If this came in Sprint-flavored CDMA, I would /so/ get it.
Sadly, it appears to be GSM only, and I can't afford AT&T.
