HP Veer Summer Tour hits the road; Get a Free TouchStone Charging Kit 19
Are you still wondering when those HP Veer 4G Mini-Coops are going to hit the road to market the tiny device? Today, HP announced the Veer Summer Tour, going on from July 2nd (tonday) until July 22nd, to spread the word about the tiny device in a way that reminds us of the Palm Pre Summer Tour of last year. This time around, though, they're taking an HP Veer van along as well that's packed with plenty of supplies and a team of hip, young (and attractive) HP reps to share their excitement for the tiny device.
As of today they are in four major cities in the US: Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Washington D.C.. And we'll assume there are plans to hit other cities as the month presses on. HP has already taken a few photos of each of the events (which you can see at the HP Veer Summer Tour website below), but if you stop by to see the team, try to snap some for yourself to share in our comments below.
Of course, HP has to give away some swag with each stop of this tour, right? And they are. The only thing is, you don't necessarily have to show up in person to take advantage of the offer. Anyone who purchases a new HP Veer between now and August 30th, 2011 can send in a downloadable rebate coupon (link below) to get a free TouchStone Charging Kit and car charger absolutely free (That's nearly $100 in value that they're giving away).
Depending on the number of new devices purchased, you can get up to 5 of these TouchStone Charger Kits for yourself before HP cuts you off (for those of you that have families, now might be the time to abuse that relationship). Add that to the $50 off on the TouchPad HP is already giving away to early-adapters, and you start to see their plans go far beyond the competition to make their customers happy.

Wait, do you mean the Veer is the only thing you're missing, or the Touchstone? Because the Touchstone they're giving away is for the Veer, not the Touchpad.
I have to say, HP/Palm cares more about its customers than any other smartphone manufacturer. Openly allowing homebrew. Giveaways. Even the $50 off a Touchpad offer was more than anything you'd get from Apple and definitely more than you would get from any Android manufacturer.
Oh yea, $50 off is way more than you would get from any Android manufacturer. Yeah, that's way more than those buy one Android phone, get one free giveaway deals that often pop up. That's way better than what Apple (used to) offer, where you buy a Macbook get an iPod Touch free. Oh yeah, WAY better.
And HP is not alone in supporting homebrew. HTC and Motorola are starting to abandon the idea of locking the bootloader, and Samsung actually gave away phones to homebrewers specifically to hack away with them.
Take off the blinders, you might bump into someone.

Veer... which probably means won't be in Toronto.
Maybe a $100 value in the HP and Precentral stores, but on Amazon you can find the vehicle charger for $11, and the Touchstone for $12.69. That's only $23.69, a 75% discount from the other overpriced stores.
You can go to Verizon if you don't trust Amazon and find the Touchstone for only $5, and an AC charger for only $5 too if you don't already have one handy.
So if you only need the Touchstone and the car charger, you can combine Amazon and Verizon and get both for $16, plus shipping (you get free shipping from Verizon) probably less than $20.
That's 80% off what you would pay from the overpriced stores. HP is overstating the value of the promotion, AND you have to mail-in first. This is another meh-worthy promotion from HP.
The good thing is you get some eye-candy with the summer tour...
Isn't there already a touchstone in the box with the veer? Well, if the "charging kit" really includes another AC adaptor, this is really nice, though of course not a $100 gift. Anyway, nice.

Went to see them in rainy nyc today. Showed them my 2 pixis and they gave us 2 touch stones. Gave us some coffee and biscotti as well. They were nice. Got to see the veer, but it got stuck on one screen. Wanted to restart it for her. Still got some good swag.

I bought a Veer 2 weeks ago (from AT&T dealer), and the Veer did not come with a touchstone in the box. Bummer that I bought mine in June before the promotion started.
Hopefully they will make it to Philadelphia again. If so, I'll be there!
