Hulu going Plus, ask if we want it on Palm [Hint: Yes] 49
by Jonathan I Ezor Wed, 30 Jun 2010 10:27 am EDT
Video streaming site Hulu recently confirmed that it was adding a Plus tier of paid service ($9.99/month), and has created a preview site for users to request a “Preview Invite.” Clicking on that button leads you a few screens later to a survey with an intriguing set of choices for mobile platforms in use:
Come on, webOS community, let’s get clicking on that button, and tell Hulu that we’re here and we want to watch Shark Attack in the River on our Pres and Pixis!
(Thanks to Shawn for the tip!)

Hip Hip Hurray!!!
Spoonfed link = http://www.hulu.com/plus/invite
you have to give up an email address then you will get to choose.
hulu on the palm?! I am so down.. Don't get me wrong I like Sprint tv when I have the chance.. But more better choices would be nice... Really nice
I'm going now!
I'm in!
I filled out a req last night. ^_^ This would be teh awesome.
Done!
Too bad Hulu Plus sucks. $10/month for ad based shows that are a week old to watch on a 3.5" screen. No thanks.
hulu plus is more then just week old shows.. The $10 a month gives you access to the whole season of shows.. So it gives someone like me who has a life outside of my 9-5job and don't have time to watch tv much to catch up on shows... And it would give me a chance to catch up on my commute or lunch breaks at work.
I would rather get my Netflix on my Pre, better movies and better price IMHO.
Must...have...new...hardware....first.
hulu ships hardware???
Already did this yesterday. I just hope they're smart enough to know that it's WebOS and not PalmOS.
My palm T|X hates you. ;)
I agree, $10 for old shows with ads still. Too bad hulu is getting greedy, parties over. Just like ebay.
Yeah, totally, because all the stuff that was free before isn't still free....
oh, wait.
done..took a total of 35 seconds!
done.... really easy, took no time at all... 4 clicks and an email address
Could Web OS please get a Sling Player?
That is the lone thing I miss from my old Treo 700p.
Hey Precentral! I sent you a news tip about this too! Darn you Shawn, hogging all the glory!
Don't worry, I acknowledge your tip. *cuts glory in half, shares it* :)
-Shawn
Well done Shawn *heaps more glory on Shawn for his magnanimous sharing* ?
FYI you can use fake email addresses to fill this out as well so feel free to fill it out more than once.
They are not that stupid.
They send an invite to that email address. If the email bounces back they will flag it as an invalid address.
Are you talking about creating multiple legitimate email addresses? Why bother with the hassle. More importantly, that's not exactly moral. If word gets out that this community gamed the system it could invalidate all other similar app request forms in the minds of other app sites.
As far as multiple legitimate emails go, if you use spamgourmet it is trivially easy to create legitimate email addresses. Or even gmail since someaddress@gmail.com goes to the same account as some.address@gmail.com and s.omeaddress@gmail.com or s.o.me.a.dd.ress@gmail.com.
I'll leave the morality question to others, I only voted once.
Ditto on the Sling Player... Would much rather have this than any other available current tv solution...
I did my duty.
By the way, WebOS needs FLASH before any of this will work. FLASH. FLASH. FLASH. You know, the thing we should have had for 6 months... the adobe thing, the thing they've been talking about forever? FLASH.
Yes, I know, they've got this working on all the iDouche devices, and those don't have FLASH. They probably had to write a custom player for iThem, which they're not going to do for WebOS, so we'll be needing that FLASH now...
The whole point of Hulu offering to build a webOS app is that it WOULDN'T require Flash.
Where did you get the idea that Hulu was offering to build a WebOS app? Because they included Palm as a choice in their user survey?
IF Hulu does offer a WebOS app it will be tied to Flash. I'm willing to bet though that the most they will offer is a mobile web page app targeted at Android that also happens to work on WebOS. Again, only after we have Flash.
i think hulu kinda sucks though supposedly the 10 fee gets you better stuff. but, if your willing to spend 10 bucks a month learn about newsgroups, astraweb, grabit, and find yourself a free videoconverter after you learn about the others and how they work and get the movies and shows you want.
Usenet will silence you if you keep talking ;)
ya i know better but, hate seeing ppl waste money on dumb things when the possibilities with those are far superior.
Yeah, I know what you mean! Still, depending on the video quality and availability, I have no problem paying a reasonable price for quality content that's DRM-free. However, all those requirements never seem to get satisfied by pay sites :)
Why would someone pay for TV when you can download it for free WITHOUT commercials?
Done. Keep us posted!
ironically I signed for this yesterday for both Palm & mainly the PS3. I would prefer this over SprintTV but like some have said, not much of a small screen TV user. But with a variety of options & more choices than SprintTV, all that may just change. Hope flash won't be required!
I can't actually see myself paying $10/month for Hulu, but I'll certainly feign interest to get webOS on the map!
Count me in the pretending to be interested group.
1+
Gotta love the refresh-double-post bug.
I'm not paying a penny for what comes on the tv for free esp to watch on my phone what a joke.
I signed up, probably won't use it though since there never seems to be anything good on Hulu... Which is natural since most television is pure crap anyhow.
Could NOT care LESS about Hulu. I won't watch it for free let alone pay for it. Its great for the hipster "I hate tv" or "i don't own a tv" types or people that don't want live sports in HD. Not to mention there are several free websites that offer the same shows if you look hard enough for them.
Done.
Now would I pay 10 bucks monthly? Not a 100 percent sure. But If I can get it on my phone and my TV/Wii both without paying $10 each than I would probably go ahead. Heck I could get rid of my satellite and I would actually be saving money in the end. But that may be pushing it.
Thanks for the article precentral!
With 720p and HDMI out showing up on smartphones now, you won't have to pay twice.
Unless of course they disable the HDMI out during playback on the phone.
My HP laptop currently does this when I am playing back a BlueRay DVD using the built-in BlueRay player. I can either view the movie on my laptop screen or out via HDMI, but not both.
Add me to the feigning interest for the sake of webOS group. I won't pay $10 for what I can get on my laptop for free, or record on my DVR, but I will support this for others.
The big question to address and missing from the article, is this for both paid and free accounts? Last time I used hulu I thought paying for the service was a joke because they wouldn't have the latest episodes fast enough and half the shows I needed to catch up on were missing completely or more than half of the episodes were missing from the newest half of the latest season. Bottom line is I had to use my DVR or get it from others over the net who got it DVR. So hulu on webOS as part of free account too because I refuse to pay for poor quality service. Heck as soon as netflix instant watch is on webOS I will end up watching it if I watch anything on my device. It is only a matter of time.
I signed up, but I have no desire to pay $10/mo to watch movies or tv episodes on a 3 inch screen. Whatever it takes to support WebOS, though.
