IMDB revamps mobile website, optimizes for webOS 28
In a move that's sure to delight movie lovers everywhere, IMDB has revamped its mobile site (which can be found at m.imdb.com) to add support for webOS. Tasks that used to involve multiple, painstaking steps of pinching and zooming and panning followed by more pinching and zooming and panning are made infinitely easier with a vastly improved interface.
The search bar handily sits atop the page so you can easily prove your friends wrong the next time you're in a debate about who directed what and when they directed it. Photo galleries and trailers are easy to get to and browse, plot synopsis and links to reviews and additional resources are now an easy click away, and you can even set how large the font is displayed while browsing through the mobile portal.
This is the IMDB site we should have had all along. Heck, install one of the 'Add IMDB to Universal Search' patches and you're in movie searching heaven.

alright! Now the imdb has a use in universal search!!!!
sweeeeet!!
Darn, they don't automatically detect WebOS when you hit the main site and redirect. Someone update my Universal Search patch!
I wonder when they made the mobile site free, used to be part of the Pro subscription. I wonder further why my friend who works there, and knows I was interested in the mobile site, didn't tell me that they made it free...
I noticed this last night when I went to my bookmark for IMDb. It resolved to the mobile site. I was so happy. It's not as funtional as the full version, but I'll deal.
tried to load the universal search patch on my Pixi a couple of weeks ago and it didn't work... is it working now?
Just needs auto-redirection, as do most other sites which provide a mobile interface. Including, ahem, PreCentral.
Even the icon is better when the page is added to the launcher!
I have the 'add imdb to universal search' patch. Strangely, the imdb logo has been replaced with a vertical bar (looks like a missing image). Clicking it still works though.
As others have said, it needs to go to the mobile version of the site now that they have made it WebOS friendly.
The strange thing is it directs to the mobile site when I type in www.imdb.com in my browser. No I didn't type in www.m.imdb.com. When I use my universal search patch, it loads the standard IMDB website.
Best guess, they only have the auto-redirect on the main web page, not the "search" page that the patches use.
Fantastic! I access IMDb all the time on my Pre. Just today I installed the "add IMDb to universal search" patch... Oddly, though, it didn't install correctly or something, as the button doesn't actually say "imdb", it just has a little "[]" symbol or something. But it still works.
nice! but i still rather an app! :)
Just modify the IMDB universal patch to use m.imdb.com instead of www.imdb.com. Gotta use WOSQI but its nice having it search using the mobile site.
Can you explain this more please!
I just did it; it was easy. Go to this thread:
http://tinyurl.com/23tpbf5
and follow the instructions in the first post to install the patch. You will download and save the two files (patch and search button image) at the bottom of the post. But before installing the patch, open it in a text editor and change "www.imdb.com" to "m.imdb.com". That's it!
Remember, you don't install this patch using Preware, you install it using WOSQI.
I have terminal and interalz installed on my Pre for editing.
What is the full path and filename of the file containing the URL to be replaced?
Awesome, I wish Rotten Tomatoes would do something like this! That site is overload for a phone LOL!
I forgot which, but one of the movie apps has the Rotten Tomatoes reviews of each movie. I agree, RT is just to tuff for the Pre's browser..
It's Flixster's app. And it's about time IMDB gave us a mobile site...
$20 donation to the first dev who creates an app that allows an end user to easily add/del/update search providers and their URLs to universal search.
The complication here is not creating a patch that will add providers to universal search, that part is easy. Unfortunately you can't upload files with a patch so the images that need to be displayed as the universal search buttons can't be uploaded. Fortunately this is not difficult to accomplish with WebOSQuickInstall.
I don't really mind if the logo images are not available. I'd be happy with plain text.
I'll donate another twenty for that as well!
...so you can easily prove your friends wrong the next time you're in a debate about who directed what and when they directed it.
Hahaha, that's the only reason I ever use IMDb!
The url to use for universal search is http://m.imdb.com/find?button=Search&q=
I can't find this in the app catalog at all..when I type in the name of the app it says no application found..btw I'm talking about VisualBoyAdvance not no name. And I have a sprint pre with the 1.4.5 undate..can anyone help me..........london cleaners | domestic cleaning | end of tenancy cleaning
Noticed that yesterday and love using that one my Pre.
FYI, there is an updated patch that gives mobile IMDb search to universal search. Check it out in the following thread.
