Install Amazon MP3 on your unlocked Pre 2 with some homebrew sorcery 7

For those of you questioning whether your unlocked GSM Pre 2 (or FrankenPre2) will ever get the Amazon MP3 app that you had on your previous webOS devices, PreCentral forum member cwgtex has given us some steps that put a firm "Yes" to that answer. Through a few steps that include such scary things exctracting ipk files and installing them via the linux command line, you can have the application back in your launcher where it belongs. As of right now the installation goes without many hassles, and does allow you to make purchases/download from the MP3 store.

If linux command lines and words like Novaterm and "root prompt" scare you, don't fret. The steps to add the app are simple enough to follow once you understand what is going on, but you are always free to ask questions in the forums to get help as well. Of course, if you already have the Amazon MP3 store on your device and want to hide it, there is a patch for that too.

why isn't this in the app store so normal (by which I mean non-hackers) can install it without "sorcery"?

That is odd. Would be nice to have it in the catalog and to also have access to Amazon Cloud like Android.

Yet another webOS user wishes they had something that Android does...

Don't worry, there are iOS people that wish for the same thing too.

Was there a reason given for this being removed from 2.0?

Rubi mentioned on the Engadget show that webOS will be able to sync with iTunes again soon. I don't have an iTunes account and won't anytime soon. I hope they aren't abandoning Amazon MP3 for iTunes.

I don't think it was removed from 2.0. The file itself comes from the Verizon Pre 2 ROM.

It was "removed" if you used a rest of the world version to meta-doctor or bought an unlocked GSM device, but rest of the world and unlocked devices never had it in the first place as the AmazonMP3 app is only for the US.

It came on my Pre Plus from AT&T. I was a little surprised that it was not on the Pre 2 when I got it. I am about to install it on my Pre 2 now...
