iPhone 4 Conversion, Voided Warranty, Michigan Meetup and More - From the Forums 15
As user hparsons says in the forums, "Weren't people just recently asking for a "reason" for the Veer? Add one more to the list...." What "reason" is he talking about? You can ask bobsentell, an iPhone 4 user, that question directly in his first discussion thread in our little community. He has seen the Veer and he likes it so much that he plans on switching to the Pre3 as soon as it is made available.
While most people, including bobsentell, are extremely happy with the build quality of the HP Veer, there are a few who are not happy with it at all (though they are in the great minority). Dvigilante1 is one of those unfortunate few, and he surprises a lot of us with a topic that talks about the "cheap" feel of his new device. Leaves us wondering; are there any others out there that feel the same way? Maybe he just got a bad model.
djzaki is getting ready to return their Palm Pixi for repairs, but they're having a bit of a conundrum - will the company be able to tell that they overclocked their device and thus voided the warranty? We know the answer, but maybe this is a good opportunity for the community to step in and give djzaki some answers to easeworries.
Are you a webOS fan that lives in the Detroit area? If so, check out the new thread in our webOS Events forum to talk about the possibility of having a webOS Meetup right there in the city. With the Midwest Meetup still in the works, there's always plenty of room on the calendar for other groups to meet together around the same time.
The PreCentral webOS Forums are always ripe for good discussions, and there's plenty more to talk about than the four stories we've shared here. Head on over and register for a free account if you haven't already, and then join in the talks that interest you most. If you ever have a story you would like to share with the rest of us, send an email to tim@precentral.net and we'll add it to the next "From the Forums" post.

huh?
Hey!
My Son and I went to the Mall over the weekend to run into GameStop to grab two more Lego Universe time cards (we decided to give it another try...). We decided to stop in the AT&T store while at the Mall.
They did indeed have a Veer on the floor, perched right next to a Pixi Plus (the only other webOS in sight).
My opinion of the Veer hasn't changed. It's too small, it's impossible to type (fast) on, and the magnetic dongle thing is a nickle & diming nightmare waiting to happen.
That said, I DID NOT feel it was "cheap" or suffered from "poor build construction/engineering". It felt very solid. Both he and I like the way the slider feels (parsecs ahead of my Pre-). The keyboard FELT nice, though I have to say the Pixi's is/was still the best keyboard they've made yet.
Dvigilante1, in my opinion, is dead wrong about a "cheap" feel - and I'm not a fan of the Veer.

I sent my Pre in for repairs a while ago. Just reset your device. Reinstall the default kernel, do a full erase, and doctor it.
The following is NOT to be taken as a jab at these devices (I have plenty of those in other posts).
Yep. One of the advantages of owning a product that has a high return rate is that things warranty voiding practices are often overlooked. Back when I used a pre, I had returned it so often that the reps stopped asking me for details. I'd simply show them that it has one of the knows issues and a replacement was ordered. I've returned at least one OC'd pre (after resetting everything). I'm not sure they even check that stuff out.
Naturally, YMMV!
I'm really amazed. I must have the only 2 launch day Pre's in existence that are defect free. I've dropped mine a dozen times, once down a flight of stairs, gotten it wet, had my kids poking at it for hours playing the bubble wrap game or lights out. Neither of my phones have any oreoing.
Reading people's stories I'm wondering if there weren't two companies manufacturing these things, or maybe two lines in the same company. One line gave a **** and the other didn't. Or maybe they switched manufacturers at some point to shave costs. Very odd.
I was a lucky customer too. My Pre(-) will be 2 years old June 6. It is chipped up but running well. Looking forward to the 3. Hope it will be on Sprint.
Yep, on my four line fam-plan, there has been 13 Pres activated (two replacements I'm calling our fault since they were dropped by family members...on carpeted floors). Not a single one of the remaining 3 devices are error free or don't have some sort of physical issue (silver earpiece fell off, random dialing, etc.) Spring actually gave me some service credit "for my troubles" because I complained about the experience.
People read this, and find out, how HP is integrating webOS in their customer service module program to offer 'mobile solution' of their 'instant on' (or rather web-solution)branded enterprise /non-enterprise systems.

Here's one of the bullets from the article. :
Instant mobile technical support to speed problem resolution for HP and select third-party products via mobile devices. HP is the first to deliver this patent-pending innovation, which leverages the capabilities of smartphone platforms. Expected to be available in app stores for webOS, Android and iOS 4 this summer.
Hey Derek! You need to fix this whole spam thing goin on!! I have never posted anything negative and I just tried to post a story about me getting two "almost iphone4 users" to use the Pre 2 instead. WTF are you blocking positive feedback!? Get your **** str8 on this site its pissing me off!
P.S the Verizon rep who was trying to sell the i4 is also using a Pre2 now!
so no one is going to comment on how wp7's Mango is incorporating some of webos' tricks? (aggregating messaging into one conversation, etc.) This was a pretty big update, but it's good it will take them until the fall to release.
Not only that, wp7's Mango is also going to use the card metaphor of multitasking ! May be HP is allowing it because HP is going to integrate webOS with Win7 and Win8 in full. Hmmm,,,,unwritten deals,,,,total mobile pie $ is too big for one company to rule.
People are still playing the "they stole our metaphor" card? If you look at the keynote when webOS was introduced back in '09, you get a feeling of deja vu from the iPhone intro of '07. I won't get into the TouchPad vs iPad "leveraging".
Point: Everyone copies. Enough already.
So, the question is that if you knowingly voided the warranty by overclocking then should you still have a warranty that you knowingly voided?
I'm an iphone 4 users. Thanks for sharing all the information that I have been looking for last 7 days.
Thanks !!!
