Sure, it won’t multi-task or synergize, but it’ll sure look pretty. ebl4287 over on the ModMyi.com forums has come up with a fairly good Pre UI theme for iPhone users. "Palm Pr?fection" is not just a launcher skin, it also manages to give the webOS look to the phone, contacts, calculator, music, and notes applications. Check out the video below, but remember that it’s still no replacement for an actual Palm Pre!

I love my Pre, having just left an iPhone 3G and the AT&T nightmare, but while this skin is kinda cute and I don't put apple fanboys down for it, you gotta give iphone credit- it sure opens the apps faster than the Pre, yet the Pre has a faster CPU except for the new iphone 3GS which its identical to. I sure hope Palm speeds up app launching.
Even the dialer on the iPhone is way more responsive than the Pre - usually I can outdial the buffer on my Pre and it lags, with no other programs open. If nothing else the Pre skin for the iPhone shows us how much fasteer WebOS *should* be.
Definitely interesting. It also proves that the Pre is anything but the non-factor that most ifanboys try to write it off as.
Excellent, excellent point. Couldn't agree more: the speed and battery life are literally the only two things I dislike about the Pre (other than minor, will-definitely-be-patched-soon, 1.0 OS things).
Yeah, I was noticing too that the app launch speed on the iphone was quite a bit faster. Let's hope further refinements of WebOS (Palm Linux) better optimizes launch speed.
Anyway, that iphone Pre skin is pretty wild!

I love it! Apple fanboys bash the Pre & how it is a ripoff of the iPhone. But lookey here...They go and not only copy the UI, but they manage to skin some of their apps the same way too! LOL

In just a few days, TealOS plus a Treo provided a much closer approximation to a Pre which included the wave. Plus, it MULTITASKED like a Pre, unlike an iPhauxn.

TealOS didn't multi-task. All it did was save a screenshot of the not-active apps and make it easy to switch back to them. It still had to reload whatever the app was when you got there.
True, but the Treo did have limited multitasking which TealOS could help manage. I could listen to streaming radio and received e-mail while surfing.
unrelated: I have full signal EV Do Rev A in my area right now. I just ran speed tests on two different websites: mobilespeedtest.com and dslreports.com/mspeed my results were 2.34 Mbps and 1364 Kbps! These speeds seem absurdly fast for 3G connectivity, but I can't argue with results. The highest I have ever seen on iPhone's At&t is 400 Kbps! You guys visit the websites and test your 3G speeds.
Just curious but it looks like it says "Sprint" at the top. Is this part of the style, or is it jailbroken?

There is too much time spent bashing the iPhone. At the same time, I'd say nearly half the time it happens is some iPhone fanboy is ranting on the Pre or comparing it to the iPhone, and then what are you supposed to do but compare? The iPhone was lucky coming in that none of the user bases out there quite had the mix of:
1. Zealotry
2. Need to tell people how much better they are then them
that many of the hardcore iphone fanboys have no. As such, I doubt there was nearly as many say....WinMo or BB...fanboys infesting the iPhone forums at launch constantly harping on every little thing without any sense of scope or hypocrisy.
You guys spend way too much time bashing Apple and the iPhone.
When the iPhone first came out, we didn't spend our time trashing the BlackBerry, or the Treo, or the Razr or getting all arrogant. We just marveled at the new technology and enjoyed the functionality of the phone, and how it was taken to the next level.
The Pre is a great phone. It has a lot of promise, and improves a lot on the iPhone and other smartphones. It's going to kick Apple and RIM and Samsung and everyone else into improving their products. Raising the bar is always good.
Just enjoy the phone, support it, and evangelize it, without dumping all over the other phones. It's juvenile.

Well, 400,000 3GS pre-sold. Another 500,000 sold tomorrow w/o multitasking.
Start the countdown for palm to put out intellectual copyright violations on those who made that and use it. Palm shut down a 3rd party who did that very thing for palmOS devices. The 3rd party complied with the request so palm didn't have to lawyer up and follow through with lawsuits. Yes it is just perfume to cover up the stink of the corpse so to speak since it is nothing more than a cosmetic alteration to the iphone but so was the palmOS launcher that mimicked the pre.
I guess I missed the part where the physical keyboard slides out the bottom.

Hopefully Palm doesn't pull an Apple and kill the skin like Apple did with the iphone launcher for treo. As mentioned previously though Palm did get TealOS killed. It would be neat if they could turn it into a launcher so they could have cards like TealOS did.
I had the Iphony skin on my Treo since it came out. Fooled a lot of my Iphone friends, too. Told them that Iphone OS was basically a subset of PalmOS. They left out video and cut and paste.
