What do you get when you show up to an event early? You get to hear some rehearsals and the name of the HP Palm Tablet formerly known as the Topaz. It's The TouchPad.
Before getting shooed away we heard it's 1.5 pounds and 13mm thick - both specs match the iPad exactly. We're just under two hours away from the official start, so stay tuned!

I'm wondering if this wasn't a generic name used because they knew people were around, and once they reveal, they'll reveal the real name. If so, Deiter has to eat a shoe sandwiched in between 4 In-N-Out burgers.
Also, if this is true, he's in trouble and he's not gonna be getting any kisses from his long-distance girlfriend for a while. ;)
Palm TouchPad. Includes the names of both HP and Palm ("hP" in TouchPad.) Nicely done.
The "Touch" branding also falls in nicely with HP's already existing TouchSmart PC line for some extra brand recognition.

reminds me of a laptops touchpad/mouse area. I liked topaz better.
Touchpad? Kinda generic and meh name. HP should have fought for Palmpad. At least that had proper branding. Methinks someone at the trademark office is an Apple fan and wanted to take out the Palmpad name before HP could get it started.
I mean, HP owns Palm, but they weren't allowed to use Palmpad because it's too similar to the trademarked name "Palm"? Stupid.
The Palm brand would hurt more than it helps. There's a reason they're doing way with Palm branding..

I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed at the name. I had hoped HP would have been more creative instead of riding on Apple's coat tails.

So at least one stat is different than what was released. Its only 13mm thick instead of 13.7mm thick. Lets see what else changes.

Honestly, I wish they would have just stuck with the name "Topaz" if this was the best they could do. The name "TouchPad" isn't going to influence whether *I* buy it, but it IS important for non-webOS geeks. The "cool factor" thing they're trying to do isn't exactly off to a rousing start.

Reading "specs match the iPad exactly", my first reaction was that that iPad was released a long time ago, they need to do better than matching the specs.
But then, I realize you were just talking weight and thickness.
