Jon Rubinstein to be inaugural guest on The Engadget Show 21
Our friends and sometimes-rivals over at Engadget are branching into new territory: an actual filmed show. We’re not talking the product demo videos that you see all over the internet, no, they’re actually going to have a new monthly show with interviews, discussions, and more. The first taping of The Engadget Show will be this coming Sunday, September 13th, and none other than Pre creator and Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein has been tapped as the show’s first guest. Seeing as Palm has been in the news a lot recently (a webOS 1.2 leak here, a Pixi unveil there, iTunes sync breaking again, etc), this should certainly be an interesting chat.
The Engadget Show will be filmed live in New York City, Sunday evening at 5 PM (go here for more information) and will be posted online a few days later.
To Josh and the gang over at Engadget: break a leg!

Oh, so I guess ANYONE who is EVER interviewed for ANY reason is developing a cult of personality.
Brilliant thinking on your part

Cult of personality? Yeah, because Steve Jobs gets interviewed sooooo often. Engadget probably asked Rubinstein to come out for the interview, thinking that he'd have something interesting to say. Hopefully he will.
Well, the idiot that made the initial post didn't identify himself, so what does that tell you about his comment!
actually, that is EXACTLY what Palm needs. Anyone who thinks Jobs is a poor CEO is just a hater.
Why don't we wait until we see this interview before drawing conclusions and calling it a "cult personality". As long as Rubi doesnt say anything out-landish it should be a positive for Palm (Pre, Pixi, WebOs). A little exposure is a good thing. The blogosphere will refer to the engadget interview giving Palm much more exposure. Take everything with a grain of salt.
Companies need to have a clear vision and project that vision to the masses to be successful.
I am no particular fan of Apple, but Jobs led/leads his company with a pretty clear purpose and is able to excite/hype his user base. As such Apple has grown tremendously.
I am not expecting nor want Palm's CEO to become Jobs, but having a high ranking face out in the open freely taking questions and provided vision/future is great for Palm.
+1
I am willing to bet that Rubi will be really down to earth with the people on the show. I don't think he will be all stuck up and just promoting the pixie and telling us why they think they have to suck the itunes titty.
Um, why is Engadget viewed as a rival? They often repost stories from precentral and give this site more exposure.
I'm sure it's just friendly competition between two sites with the same interest. Heck Engadget showed the world the Treo 700w for the first time ever and blew the lid open on Palm's Windows Mobile lineup of Treos.
It's tongue-in-cheek. They repost our stories, we repost theirs, we're all one big happy blogosphere. But we still want to beat them to the punch (as they do with us). ;-)
The pic chose for this news bit, with the orange halo and Palms ceo with his battle face on looks kinda cultish really... But I tend to wait to see what the show views like.
Got my Media confirmation from Engadget to attend this event. Looking very forward to hearing from the guy that helped save Apple and now Palm.

Jon Rubinstein is a badass... FTW!
Mark this interview on your calenders, this could be the wave of a new era. For those who recall the days of techTV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TechTV) and the outrage when G4 turned them into a videogame-based channel... I think the Engadget could be the one to figure out that the gadget freak, techy, or "nerdy" crowd has moved from just a niche to mainstream. Everyone wants the newest, hottest phone... they're just not geeky enough to run home and look for updates daily (secretly hoping their cell carrier will receive the phone tomorrow). Also, most people have no idea how to actually use their gadgets, read reviews of products before they buy, or troubleshoot. Engadget/Cnet are leaders in this arena and hopefully, they can finally bring back the techTV formula and bring Palm/WebOS and other companies devices to the mainstream. Frankly, I've had enough of Jobs overly-hyped keynotes where people dream about all the features they think/could be getting but find out that they will be getting less than 10% of it.
Well, hey, I think that's great! The more Palm visibility, the better. Thanks for letting us know!
Man Rubinstein, WHY SO SERIOUS? if you look at him in his "iPod Guru" days dude had his afro and was always with a goofy smile, now the guy looks like hes gonna drop kick you at any second. "Mr Rubinstein, why did you come out with such a risky successor to your first WebOS Product?" *DROP KICK*
haha i love this dude, Palm owes everything to him and I love my Pre
