Know your gestures: Forward Swipe 10

by Adam Marks Tue, 29 Jun 2010 2:09 pm EDT

Forward Swipe The forward swipe is the exact opposite of the Back Swipe: a half-swipe from left-to-right in the gesture area. Like the Back Swipe, it can be done on either side of the gesture area, just make sure that you don't cross over that center line. There are currently only a few limited uses of the Forward Swipe, the most common being the equivalent of the “forward button” in the browser. However, some 3rd party developers have created unique uses for the “forward swipe”, such as the app TweetMe, which maps the forward swipe as the "ultimate back swipe" to bring you back all the way to your main Twitter timeline, no matter how many levels in to the app you are.

I think you mean DON'T cross the center line.

d'oh... fixed!

I wish they'd change out the swiping gestures in the email program, so one would delete and one mark as read. I don't care about batch operations, but I would like a quick way to mark a message as read.

Bad kitty also does a timeline refresh/ update on forward gesture. Very handy...

You can also forward swipe away notifications, although that's not exactly a forward swipe because you don't do it from the gesture area.

Forward swipe is used with my favorite patch at the moment. It removes the send and attach icons, while having the forward swipe act as the send. I love it,w wish I could use it to replace the enter key for more functions

I wish Tweed would have this. Currently, a fwd swipe brings you to the screen to post a new tweet. Once you get into the app (going to another person's feed, for example), there is no way to get home except to use the back gesture as many times as necessary.

Nice tip!

You should explain the LED blink patterns for each guesture (i.e., LED left of the ball blinks for back guesture, LED right of the ball blinks for forward guesture, both left and right LEDs blick for up swipe, etc.).

I often get blink patterns I don't know.

in landscape swiping can be used for scrolling the page.

Would be nice to have a gesture to take you to the bottom (or top) of a web page!
