Last day for $50 early-adopter rebate on HP TouchPad 43
It's the last day for you to cash in on your old webOS smartphones and get the early-adopter mail-in rebate on the HP TouchPad for $50 off. Simply choose one of the major retail stores (online or off) to buy a TouchPad from (see a list of even more discounts from those retailers here), print off the required form from HP's Touch Inspiration website and send in the information through the mail to receive that $50 check back a few weeks later. You must buy your TouchPad today to receive the rebate, but you can wait until tomorrow (or within 45 days of purchasing your TouchPad) to complete the form and send it to HP. The link below gives the full details, so get to it quickly!

What a sorry PR move this program was. Probably made things worse. WebOS users, this is how much HP cares about you, and WebOS.
It's not like this flop wasn't predictable. Even if HP just licensed another OS, they're not selling enough to be viable.
But actually having to build and maintain webOS and any ecosystem along with the costs of developing hardware? Plus all the marketing to a market that is totally ignorant of this platform? It'd be interesting to see how much of a loss HP has going.
Guess what else this is the last day for? This should be a special (magical?) day for webOS users. The much hyped magical OTA update is coming today. This will fix everything that has plagued webOS for years.
Stephen: but the OTA is planned for the end of the month. And we’ll use this as an opportunity to go back to the reviewer community…
It's interesting to read the forum thread on the apparent and impending tardiness of the update.
It appears that HP can make and break any promise - from holding back products until "perfect" to shipping within weeks of announcement to tens of thousands of apps available - and it's okay because it's, like, sooooo hard for a big corporation to launch a national product, and it's only been 13 months since the acquisition completed, which is a reaaaaaally, reallly short time, you guys!
Their heart is in a really good place, you see.....
You mean this thread?
***this has gone from thoughts about touchpad bug fixes to whining about palm and HP.
complain
rinse
repeat
thread moved (because we can)

That's the (sad, sad, sad) one.
Samsung, saw the ipad 2, made a brand new product the Galaxy tab 10.1 in about 3 months and got it into stores. "it's only been 13 months" is nothing but a paltry excuse for failing to execute well.
I can't imagine the agony webOS users must be going through after being left at the altar by HP. Yesterday was supposed to be YOUR day. A magical day. Reviewers were supposed to be re-evaluating their initial reviews with the new magic installed on their Touchpads (that i suppose they still have?).
It would be interesting to see how many people who thought this was a great offering are Tea party members. I'm just basing it off the the attitude they feel unworthy of anything better and will continue to support people and even cheer them on who treat them like **** If that last word is deleted then think of those subservient guys in prison.
I know. I know. "Bull" shared some of the cigarettes he made off of you.
Intersting. I had the opposite thought. I feel HP is like "Progressives". They measure their success on intent and not results.
"Well we really wanted to have the OTA update out by the end of the month, but you see, we just said it would be out without thinking about when it realistically would be ready. But we are trying so thats all that counts."
Welp, thats nice and all, but good intentions are not going to sell the TP. It is sad to read on PC how our own members are dumping TPs to go back to FIRST gen. iPads.
And I am SUPER pumped that I went out and bought the TP on day one. It was completely worth it. Less then a month later I can get an additional $80 discount if I buy from HP.
My Pre- makes a better paper weight than a phone, but thats ok, summer is almost over so I will have my Pre3 on Sprint soon.
The Bach. degrees in charge of the Palm division at HP are so worth the money they get paid. :)
I dont care. I NEED PRE3 NEWS PLSSS.
Here is what we know.
Last leak had US Pre3 in "fall".
Pre3 not expected to be blessed with Enyo support.
No sign of TTS for the Veer, so assume Pre3 is also lacking.
No announcements by ATT or VZ that they want to carry the Pre3.
Sprint has confirmed, they will not carry this dated 3D device with only a half gig of RAM.
While they make products that multitask, HP does not appear able to focus on more than one product at a time, so; Finish Touchpad or Release Pre3, where will they put their attention?
Opinions?
Can you link the Sprint confirmation please?

LOL, now people are down-ticking links. Take a Midol. :)
I hate HP. I cannot wait till October when I can upgrade and never look back at this piece of junk Pre Plus ever again. The Touchpad and future WebOS devices are going to fail just as bad if not worse than the original. They screwed over their user base and that is all they really had. HP doesnt have a clue!
I'm so glad i only have 22 days left on my Sprint contract.
Uh, so you can jump ship to get more of that fine support from HP?
WHO CARES!!!!
Why do I want to be a 'first adopter' for a plastic tablet that is being updated in a few months, won't 'work' with my phone, and get it from a company that shows a willingness to NOT support early adopters with first-gen hardware?
I love webOS, as an OS. Other than that, I don't like the hardware, or the billion dollar company that moves just slightly faster tectonic plates.
Try again hp...
I wish I never bought the dang TP. I never thought the day would come where I was giving up on webOS, but at some point you have to wake up. :(
I truly believe that they dont give a damn about the smartphone. It was probably much cheaper to maintain the production and generate little revenue from a few suckers, than to scramble the factories.
It's all about WebOs right now. By 2013 we might see it in every HP printer, refrigerator, hardline phone, microwave. And then they will start licencing it for a buck to every electronic device powered by a PIC processor.
Really? You think manufacturers are going to partner with HP for WebOs on anything?
next.
HP would have been better off releasing a stream of small updates every few days through July. I am disappointed that it's July 31st and no update is forthcoming. I really believe in webOS potential but today I will be selling my 32 GB HP TouchPad, which can no longer be returned to Best Buy.
I think this is the best way to get HP focused on deliverables that it respects.
+1
I don't understand this obsession with having big updates that have big gaps between them. Just because iOS and Android do them.
How about having something like a weekly patch day. Fixing little bugs , improving performance etc.
And separately having big updates that deliver features every few months.
Agree, I'm just cutting my losses and writing of $215 by selling my month-old 32GB TouchPad for $400 + Postage. iPhone 5 will launch maximum 21-28 days after Pre3.
Ha...I'm thinking the iPhone5 will launch before the Pre3. There seems to be no news on the pre3. It seems the iPhone5 will be mid September.
A shame to see people returning TouchPads. I don't blame them...seems HP is not delivering on promises with launch apps and updates. I did not buy a TP. I have an ipad2. I will most likely be picking up an iphone5 in Sept.
Yup. Hopefully sprint will get the iphone. I think that is the best option for me since I have MacBook Air, 2 Macbook Pro's, and I am getting a hand-me-down ipad.
Again, love webOS as an OS...but other than that, my overclocked pre is over 2 years old, and the small crack from the charging port is slowly growing in size. The only thing moving slower than the crack in my screen is HP.
Not to mention phone hasn't had an update, in what, a year? No support, no new apps, no reason to keep hanging on.
Not a fan of typing on the iphone, but I guess I will have to get used to touch-screen typing.
I will wait for an early-adopter rebate on HP SmartPhone
Our 2 year old pre's needed replacing, besides very little in new apps. We just made the switch to 2 new Nexus S's. Wanted to stay with the WebOS ecosystem but with no new phones had to move on. Maybe a Galaxy Tab to complete our setup. We'll watch WebOS on the sidelines for 2 years and hope there's enough incentive to return. After a few weeks with android, they have lots to offer, getting used to and liking it more and more but still miss that slick WebOS experience.
I still have my day of release Pre on Sprint (yes in perfect shape and working fine clocked to 800). Do I still love webOS? Yes. Did I buy a Touchpad so I could save the $50 NO! If HP and Sprint can't get me a new webOS phone then there is no reason for me to buy the Touchpad! For me they just didn't get it done. Love webOS, love the Touchpad, love the spec of the Pre3. I want it all darn it but it's all or nothing for me. No Pre3 on sprint then I'll have to move on from webOS and there will be no Touchpad for me.
I still have 2 Verizon serials to give away.
$50 off is not enough to sway me. The touchpad should be $350 for 16GB $400 for 32GB the accessories should be 50% cheaper than what they are going for now.
you suck hp.
I finally pulled the trigger. Thanks to whomever posted the HP Academy tip, which requires an email address from .edu or other educational domain.
$557.99 HP TouchPad 32Gb from HP Academy
$50.00 TouchPad instant rebate
$30.00 Coupon SAVE30HP
$50 Pre- rebate
$26.15 Ebates 5% off HP store
------
$401.84 (before $31 sales tax and free next day shipping)
Thats a good deal.
around $400 for the 32GB sounds more like what it should be everyone. The lack of a camera app, rear facing camara, and a GPS really are let downs though.
I love the universe app on the ipad/iphone, however it requires GPS so the developer wouldn't even be able to port it over for the touchpad.
Been using my pre for almost 2 years. Still love webos, but can't justify the touchpad. $50 off is a nice gesture, but $100 off any android tablet at staples was too good of an offer to pass up. $399 after discount on a Sammy Galaxy 10.1 puts the Touchpad to shame. Now just waiting for November to hop off of Sprint and step up to some better hardware. HP Time to step up the hardware and release schedules if you want any chance of capturing market share!!!
I am passing on this rebate. The Touchpad hasn't made it past "interesting" for me. Right now, I can get better functionality, infinitely more apps, and impressive battery life by getting a netbook for a similar price. Of course it would be better if it linked to WebOS, but HP has yet to come through on this promise to put WebOS on PCs in any form.
And the silence on the Pre3 is really painful.
Hey HP and Sprint (don't care which of you idiots failed to support your thousands of early adopters, and it doesn't matter - if either of you cared enough it would have happened):
Nice job **** over your loyal early adopters. Writing off thousands of very rabid fans, who could have been out there showing off their shiny new Pre3s (even Pre2s) with matching Touchpads for you.... providing you with badly needed publicity and free sales that no amount of purchase celebrity ads could make up for.
The few thousands may be a drop in the bucket compared to the zillions of apple/android fans, but just how did you expect to make headway against the juggernaughts? Good store placement and vague future promises of a device ecosystem?
Nice miscalculation there pals.
Nice offer, but not available to non US early adopters!!
a crappy $50 rebate, and then a time constraint on when you have to use it, they are pathetic.
They will not ever again get my money, not that they need it. but, they will also never get money from my family. 5 other members all used the device, no more HP, or webos, and i am sure that there are plenty others just like my own families that will do the same.
Good job HP, you solved the situation, made everything better, we are all now going to stop using your garbage, and believing your lie and begin using other platforms...goodbye
Yeah, the $50 rebate to previous Palm owners was an insult. If they made it open on the time line I'd be okay with it, but to have a one month window during which they barely launched a marketing campaign - never mind new versions of the tablet are coming out shortly - why would I want to buy now?
I haven't given up hope on the product lines, but they need to ramp up or right their loss off.
Well, if you felt "special" getting a $50 rebate for being an early adopter, perhaps you'll feel less so when any Tom, **** or Harry can now get the same deal through 9/10: http://twitter.com/#!/HPdeals/status/97637881799131136
Direct link to new $50 off offer for anyone: http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/webos/us/en/rebate.html?jumpid=ex_r11694...
I'm a little happy now that my original Sprint Palm Pre bit the dust and I moved to Nexus S 4G. I no longer have to wait on broken promises about any WebOS devices anymore!
