Mashable awards open to nominations, webOS contender in multiple categories 29
The folks at Mashable are putting on a fourth edition of their annual community-based awards extravaganza, and we couldn’t help but notice that webOS could qualify for a go at several categories. While there’s clearly no chance that the Pre, Pixi or the Plus derivatives of either could garner one of the top five nomination spots for a device category, it’s worth looking at categories like Best Mobile Platform (only so many options, right?). And we can’t forget about all of the apps available on webOS - so many are contenders for nominations in categories like Best Location-Based Service or Best Mobile User Experience or even Best Use of an API. Go grab your Twitter or Facebook ID, check out the categories, and get nominating.

LOL, "Best Location-Based Service" -- I'm sure all the VZW Pre+ owners will be lining up to vote for that one!
Yeah no freaking kidding.
*sigh* Unfortunately, webOS owners will line up and vote for that one...and anything else that even hints at "webOS vs..."
Ok Derek, put down the laptop, the TV remote and the Pre, enough with the "Pre, as seen on TV" stories. Pick up a rake...
i just wish I didn't hafta use twitter or fb to nominate. then again,i could just nominate and then quickly delete the posts on my twitter page
nominate and delete. Once per day for 3 categories.
"foursquare for webOS" is nominated for Best Use of an API. Just sayin'.
We need to sticky this on the right pane of Precentral until the contest is over in November.
Plus hwo does it work if someone votes "webOS" and someone else votes "Palm webOS" in the same category as they are the same? Same with best brand as "Palm" versus "Palm/HP"?
i was wondering the same thing the other day.
they are smart enough to group all the variations of Palm and webOS together. the key is for us to nominate enough times that they will put webOS into the "final" choices for voting against a limited set of choices. I think they are going to take the top 4 nominations in each category.
let's get behind webOS. And webOS apps like foursquare.
voted the other day. i'll go again if we can though. maybe someday mashable will acknowledge webOS's existance. their last article on the platform was months and months ago. i know they cater to the apple crowd, and android too now, but they could at least have said "oh hey, webOS 2.0 should be out before long..."
too bad their writing gets worse and worse every day. mashable was good for learning twitter in the beginning, but that's about it. unless you need a lot more in the way of hasty, knee-jerk interpretations of infographics in your life.
lmao our community is going to blow this up..
come one everyone lets get WebOS same recognition like we did with that last tier battle website poll, where Palm Pre won best phone.
>:)
Thats like saying... lets vote for Windows ME. I apologize in advance
HAHA... Now THATS funny!!!!
Interesting... on this same Page, PRECentral is allowing Google to advertise for the Android Tablet PC. "Perfect for on the Go"....Any reason for that besides $$?
I'm sure precentral is using some sort of ad service, so they likely can't pick and choose which ads show up on their site. Also, even if they could, they are a business. They may host a fan blog, and they may support the Palm, but why should they block android from advertising on their site?
money seems like a good enough reason to me. of course, i ignore the ads, but I'm glad android vendors are spending money to get page views from webOS users. that's a good thing.
Isn't the company "Smartphone Experts" or something like that? P|C is just one of many sites, no? The company is OS agnostic, no? Even if not, it's a business.
agnostic != neutral
that's right. Agnostic means unknowing or without knowledge. You could be agnostic and neutral, or unbiased, but not necessarily.
on topic, though, I do love it when we take down a poll like this. I wonder if anyone besides us realizes how active this community is?
I'll probably get flamed for this, but the other question is "I wonder if anyone cares?"
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/agnostic
1: a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god
2: a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something
The second use is pretty common in technical docs...but perhaps you are right. I don't know.
The editorial side of the PreCentral and SPE houses are separate from the advertising side. It helps maintain impartiality.
look at the bottom of the page. it's smart phone network. it covers tons of phone makers. Pre's are only one side.
i would nominate the Music Player Remix 2.0 for best use of notification? is that a category? are homebrew apps allowed?
I hate it how people from this site spam contests so bullshit phones the the pre can beat phones that deserve to win like the iphone or droid. Palm really screwed the pooch and we should not be congradulating them for it.
I for one will be voting webos for best phone OS and android for all other categories

A garage sale sign in the middle of a residential sidewalk, is a perfect example.
Is it really too soon to begin a Marketing campaign for a new Palm Smartphone, or are we really saying that the Dev team is still doing white board workgroups, so they really cant advertise yet? As Anakin Skywalker said: "I'd like to know!"
HAHA..... I MADE THIS PIC MY BACKGROUND ON MY COMPUTER... I love palm
