The Missing Sync updated for two-way calendar PC synchronization 33
Who says PC can’t have fun too? The folks over at Mark/Space may be of the Macintosh-inclined variety, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to work to make their products fully capable for their Windows-using brethren. To that end, Mark/Space has released a new version of The Missing Sync for webOS that brings two-way calendar synchronization to the PC side of their software. Previously two-way calendar sync was only supported for Mac users.
Change an event name on your webOS phone and sync it back to your computer. Add a location and adjust the time on your PC and then push that back to your phone. Life with webOS and Outlook just got easier. The Missing Sync for webOS is available from Mark/Space’s website for $39.95. A free webOS companion app needed to trigger and manage the sync is available in the Palm App Catalog. Future updates to The Missing Sync promise to bring Tasks and Notes synchronization to both PC and Mac users.

missing sync is a little behind. PocketMirror has had 2 way sync from the start. And already has tasks and notes. Does missingsync have any features over pocketmirror?
Derek, today is tomorrow, where is Dieter's WMC report on Flash that you promised yesterday. It's the day after tomorrow in Barcelona now.
I said that MWC kicked of tomorrow (today). Flash isn't being demoed until Monday (tomorrow).
That, and we have no guarantee that Deets is going to get hands on time.
WMC says Feb 15. Deets says tomorrow.
"Meanwhile, Phil, Kevin, and Dieter will record a podcast from time to time, like we did just now on the eve of the craziness at MWC. "
Are you relying on a Pre Calendar?
Doesn't google calendar do this already...for free?
Yes, but some people cannot embrace the cloud. It's similar to when the same kind of people refused to buy a cellphone or were late to adopt email.
True for some.
For others in c-level corporate America--and especially mobile consultants--the cloud is not a viable option due to available/permissible connectivity, security and having access to all of MS Outlook's features.
Yes, some people have million dollar exposure if they put even basic info out on a poorly secured system like Google. Do you want your account number and name for your 401K visible to chinese or Nigerian hackers in Google?
hey hey hey watch the Nigerian comments ok
The cloud is great till "it starts raining..."
I work in a Cloud company myself. However how many lost their contacts when Palm messed up the backup mechanism a few months back? I had to manually add again over 100 contacts, with numbers and addresses.
And not everybody likes to trust Google with their contacts. Google monopoly will show in the next few years and you will be seeing law suits against Google like the ones against M$
Embrace this :)

Google calendar goes a LONG way to doing it right, but they fall slightly short in a couple areas. I have what I believe is a very nice solution I will post in the forum soon, maybe today.
does it sync the Palm Profile calendar, or do you need to create a new calendar account just for Missing Sync?
I think I recall it creates its own calendar all your stuff is in from outlook. Another aggravating aspect of the calendar application sync which is why I found something else, see my post below.
Yes, quite a few features, and therefore I think I am going to wait for it over PocketMirror. I trialed PocketMirror and it does what it says it will do flawlessly. Only wireless, however, in an email I got from them, they claimed there was a Palm limitation I believe that prevented USB sync, but I know The Missing Sync offers both wireless and USB and Companion Link offers USB sync.
I believe the limitation The Missing sync has is that multiple outlook categories do not sync to multiple colors on the Pre calendar. I like colors. :)
I have solved that very well, I believe, will be posting my solution in the forum at some point soon. I have full color coordination with all calendars and contacts WITHOUT using any of the widely known $40 sync solutions.
I will then use The Missing Sync for tasks/notes (like theirs better than PocketMirror), podcasts, itunes, docs and files, bookmarks, photos, but NOT for the calendar and contacts.
Derek Kessler -- You are on FIRE! We should send Dieter on overseas trips more often :-)
Thanks for giving us some good reading entertainment over the weekend.
Looks great, but for $40 I think I'll just enter everything on my phone and sync it with my Google calender.
Welcome to 1998 Marks/Space!
I have used CompanionLink with Google for Calendar and Contacts since last summer and I have no complaint with those features (I don't use Tasks or Notes). However, I would like to since Word Docs (if updated etc.), iTunes, & bookmarks.
2 questions: does anyone know when CompanionLink will be updated to do all of this via USB? I really don't want to buy another $40 solution, you know?!
Next, can someone point to any research on the actual risk of using the Cloud for syncing? Are people really getting their Calendars and Contacts hacked into via Google, or is this a very low risk?
Thanks.
CompanionLink does USB Sync for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Memos, full two way sync to PC Outlook and all versions of Palm Desktop. Check it out at: http://www.companionlink.com/palm/index.html
Sorry, not "since" but "sync Word Docs..."
Carry on...
>"Who says PC can
Man, I'm glad someone beat me to it.
I don't like the idea of paying $150 for an operating system I don't need and THEN $40 for software so I can sync my phone to something other than Google. Guess I'll stick with the cloud for now.
For the love of all things holy all I want to do is sync to my own caldav server!!! "http://192.168.0.5:8080/path/to/CalDAV"
That would be GOLD.
This program looks great, but its kind of annoying to have to pay $40 to a 3rd party company that is doing something Palm should be doing on its on for free. The Cloud is fine, but there is something to be said for having a backup copy of your info on hard drive.
I have used the Palm OS version of this product with my Treo, and the best feature for me was the contact sync. Making the Mac and Treo contacts match no matter where the contact was added or updated was great. The best feature was doing the same with the contacts' photo.
The only reason that I haven't purchased the webOS version for my Pre is the lack of contact photo sync. Come on Mark/Space, what are you waiting on?
I think Missing Sync is a piece of crap, and their tech support is pitiful. Don't waste your money.
Where is the companion app in the app store? I cant find it.
Just because it says they have two way calendar sync doesn't mean it works. I've bought the family pack and have installed it on two PCs so far. Both fail with an error when trying to do any calendar sync. I put in a support request ticket with them last Wednesday and haven't heard a word.
Does Missing Sync only sync the Outlook data over WiFi? Or can it do everything, media and Outlook data, over USB? If Outlook data is only synced over WiFi, that's useless to me.
The Missing Sync vs PocketMirror vs CompanionLink/Google "Cloud" Sync
Pros? Cons?
Do NOT purchase this. I did and rue the entire process. It is extremely USER UNFRIENDLY.
After three frustrating hours of the sync being dropped again and again I deleted the application from both my perfectly running desktop and my Palm Pre.
I continue to rely on my faithful Pocket Mirror.
Both products cost the same.
First off - Pocket Mirror and CampanionLink give you a thirty day free trial. You can see if they work well for you. I could not find a link for a free trial for Missingsync.
I bought the software. The extra bells and whistles - for syncing songs and photos aren't necessary since the palm is recognized as a external device by windows and you can just send files to the device.
My experience with Missing sync is poor. It does work; however, it is very very inconsistent in the syncing process. Support was adequate - however - they could not solve my problems in a resonable amount of time so I asked for a refund.
I personally find it very frustrating to spend personal and/or business time trying to resolve software issues. I believe software should work out of the box and need only minor tweaking.
I would suggest you try the other free trials before installing Missingsiync.
After paying for missingsync and trying the others - I have decided the easiest and most elegant way to handle sync is to sync from phone to the google calendar and use the google apps to sync with outlook. Of course this depends upon whether or not you depend heavily on contacts or on the calendar. I rely more heavily on the Calendar than on new contacts.
If you depend heavily on contacts - another solution is to buy third party software that syncs between google and outlook. It's probably a better way to go - first Sync from phone to google and then google to outlook via the computer.
