Missing Sync for Windows Pre-Release Available 19

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 18 Aug 2009 12:42 pm EDT

Well, that was fast.  Just a week after Mark/Space posted up their development tracker for the Windows Version of their Missing Sync software, they have made a Pre-Release version of the software available for download.

It doesn't work with Vista, at all, so don't try it unless you like bags of hurt.  It does sync over WiFi (not USB), and there are a host of other pre-release issues to contend with.  Knowing Mark/Space, the issues will be sorted out in short order, but if you enjoy testing stuff, take a look at the list of pending issues first and then mosey over to the download page.

Good on Mark/Space for making the Pre-Release build available because of the popular demand - if you give it a shot, please be sure to provide them with as much helpful feedback as possible (emails whose contents consist of "It doesn't work" or that recapitulate the known bugs don't count).

Just like Echo, this still doesn't work with your existing "Palm Profile" account. Will there ever be a sync program that allows both OTA Backups via Palm Profile and local sync of my data?

Can we get a sync tool that works with USB PLEASE!!! What's up with all the WIFI only syncing methods? I would like to be able to sync my phone on the road without WIFI. Is this too much to ask?

If you look at the documentation included with the software, they talk about being able to sync some of the data via USB. I would expect more on the way from Mark/Space.

I am sure this is in the pipeline but not working on Vista/W7 is going to be a problem for many as we are running Vista. XP support has been dropped so I would have expected a Vista version.

I would think Win 7 is much more like Vista than with XP. It should work in Win 7 XP mode though.

If I had to sync to a single PC again I would curl up into a little ball and cry. Talk about a step backward in the wrong direction. What is the point of having a internet / cloud device if your data is in jail someplace on a single pc.

Mainly because neither tasks nor (especially) notes are supported by the major 3rd party cloud technologies used by Palm, namely Exchange ActiveSync and Google. Someone is going to have to either create a cloud-based conduit or (as I've tried to suggest to MotionApps) leverage something like HotSync to connect the Pre to the desktop directly for memos/notes syncing, whether by USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. I desperately need a real Memos app on my Pre that syncs properly with Outlook Notes, and can only hope that *some* developer out there is going to launch one soon. {ProfJonathan}

Yawn

HAHA is it going to be $39.99 like their other sync apps for other platforms? Gee sounds like it was a plan cooked up by Chapura to get people to think theirs isn't so bad for only $30.

I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with Palm Corporate this morning apparently they have no idea if they are even working on long known issues such as voice dial, text forwarding, being able to save a video clip or other file sent via mms (other than a picture) etc.. there is about a 200 point list on Sprints own pre forum of things that do not work on the Pre that work on nearly every other phone sold. Since after 40 minutes on the phone with Palm they seem to be saying they are not really putting much into supporting or advancing the device I am seeking to return it to Sprint. I strongly recommend that anyone who is within their 30 trial period to also return the phone, since absolutely NONE of the updates that various Sprint sales people promised have happened in over 2 months.
