Still waiting on Kevin's follow up TouchPad video...
Prediction: This new beefed up iPad 3's main purpose is to raise the prices of tablets by $300. In other words the iPad 4, 5, 6 etc will all be the "HD" model and the cheapest one will run $800. There will be no more $500 iPads. Apple loves money too much to continue having such small margins on their products.

So, you are saying that after pioneering the $500 tablet price point that other manufacturers are struggling to match, Apple has decided that the iPad isn't profitable enough? Are you crazy?
The idea of the "HD" iPad is that, while it is possible to produce a device that has 4X more pixels than the current iPad, this is in no way a necessary feature for the average user. A Pro device for photographers, artists, etc. will cost a couple hundred dollars more but they can't and won't be making 40 million of them like they will the standard ones.
What you should be more worried about is whether Apple will cut the price of the iPad this Fall, not raise it. It's a definite possibility with its economies of scale and some new price competition on the lower end. Then you will be complaining that Apple is trying to kill the competition with predatory pricing as well as jacking up the prices on the HD model because they are greedy.

Yep. Apple has bragged on more than one occasion that the competition is having a hard time producing a quality tablet at the same price point. I don't think Apple is going to simply up the price and take away this advantage. HD will be touted as a new class of tablets. Manufacturers should be worried that Apple may not price this high enough for them to compete.
