MobiOne Throws Another Pre Development Option into the Mix 17

We think the Mojo SDK, documentation, and emulator does a pretty darn good job of helping developers work with the Pre.  But if you're looking for something a little different, Genuitec has announced what they describe as "the second milestone release (M2) of MobiOne; a new enterprise-class technology that enables development of mobile applications using Web standards," which includes support for both the iPhone and the Pre. The idea here is you can use a single development environment to make web apps for the iPhone, apps for the Pre, and (they promise) other mobile platforms as well.

I asked Jason O’Keefe, Genuitec's spokesperson, if any Pre developers have signed up to use this. He said they "had talked to app developers who primarily develop for the iPhone but wanted to port their apps over to the Pre, hence why we created the Pre emulator. So yes, there are Pre developers who have signed-on to use MobiOne once it hits version 1.0 in mid-September."

From the looks of their client list, it appears that this may help the Pre get a foothold into some verticals (i.e. banking, automotive, health care & medical and retail).

Thanks to cujoe for the tip!

There is another option proposed by Palm in its developer forums over at developer.palm.com: leasing time on a actual device of the web through a company called DeviceAnywhere. I signed up yesterday and a representative sent me documentation with the 15 minutes after my registration.

Isn't DeviceAnywhere simply a virtual device tester that supports features the emulator goes not (CMDA network, gps, etc.)? Also, last I checked, DeviceAnywhere was a paid service with fees depends on how many hours you signup to use per month. I could be thinking of a different company, but I'm pretty sure that was DeviceAnywhere

This changes the game. One development environment for both iPhone and Pre? Why would people then decide to use the mojo sdk? Am I missing something?

Is that Pre shot in landscape just for show, or is there really device rotation in the emulator? Gesture area?

Tell Jason O'Keefe that if you use the word "hence," you don't have to use the word "why."

LANDSCAPE MODE IN THE EMULATOR?!?! YEAH!!!
Great news for those of us with no access to a Pre in 3rd world countries like France and even Verizonland, USA.

Using a Windows-only, WebOS emulator with an OSX interface is making my brain hurt.
