Monday Brief: January 9, 2012 - CES! 19

by Chris Parsons Mon, 09 Jan 2012 6:06 am EST

It's time to hit the ground running here at CES 2012 and no matter what platform you're into we've got our whole Mobile Nations team here to cover every nook and cranny of the CES 2012 showroom floor.

WPCentral will be represented by Daniel Rubino (@malatesta77) while iMore will be represented by Rene Ritchie (@reneritchie) and his team, Leanna Lofte (@llofte) and Ally Kazmucha (@imuggle). Phil Nickinson (@philnickinson) and the Android Central army will cover all things Android and Kevin Michaluk (@crackberrykevin), Adam Zeis (@azeis) and the CrackBerry.com crew (@isaackendall, @kasperapd, @CrackBerryJoe, @scaperfan, and @cbkerri) have a lock on all things BlackBerry.

Derek Kessler (@dkdsgn) and webOS Nation will be on site as well as cross-site collaborator Jared DiPane (@jdipane) and our brand new editor-at-very-large, Simon Sage (@simonsage) to pick up whatever tidbits of technological goodness they can find.

Is Derek reporting on the food vendors or something? I'm having trouble thinking of anything even mildly relevant to WebOS being reported on at CES 2012.

Some fascist bible-thumper has to carry the cross and lead the choir in "Onward Christian Soldiers". Right??

Yeah. Everyone knows that webOS will be holding its own event for Feb 9 called "Think We Really Screwed That Up!"

I'd be interested in hearing about this Application Compatibility Layer by Open Mobile. Apparently they'll have demonstrations porting to webOS at their booth. Not that it'll save webOS, but it's an interesting concept for the tablet world.

Indeed. How utterly irrelevant to the entire CES show is webOS? I'm saying that in a sad voice in my head.

It's time to move on folks - how far behind do you want to be? Symbian is ahead of you FFS.

Hey if Ubuntu can be there, then why the **** not WebOS?

Ok, be honest, how many of you in the back of your mind somewhere are hoping that there is a surprise announcement about some WebOS goodness?

Yes we all know that we have been all but shut down, but who out there, (like me), have this weird hope that you will hear some wierd goodness about it out of left field somewhere?

As far fetched and almost impossible as it is, I do.

It's not almost impossible...it is absolutely impossible. webOS is not open source yet, and there's no timeframe for when it will be. As for HP, it's about as low a priority as possible.

What is "possible" is that you will hear "something", "anything" with a remote hint of webOS in its discourse and it will be spun into "some weird goodness" that came "out of left field somewhere".

Who knows? Maybe it will be something truly exciting...like an awesome new "Twitter Client". /sarcasm

I imagine that Derek is the "Mr. Irrelevant" of the Mobile Nations crowd there at the conference.

... get some dirt on why those companies (HTC etc), didn't take a bite of webOS. See if you can fish out some possibilities for up coming hardware firms using webOS!

It is not open source yet. If that was just around the corner, HP would've announced the timeframe in December.

In other words, quite awhile before you can start fantasizing about even this rather unlikely scenario.

"I'm coming down there. As she said." LMAO

Caught that too...the Alfred Hitchcock way of saying Thats what she said.

It's like a Charlie Chaplin movie, where WebOS (portrayed by The Little Tramp) stands outside the door hungrily watching everyone else (Android, iOS, etc.) feast up...

Derek is there to play the Ghost of CES Past at the yearly pageant.

It's not that I don't like you guys, but the pretty girl is always more interesting.

No offence to Derek, but he's on a sweet ride on that one - zero work to do - he can just lie around the hotel and watch porno.

Who's this Simon Sage guy? Derek, that could've been you. Make the new guy get webOS nation.
