Neato! even more so--now supports sending links from Pre/Pixi to desktop 14
webOS developer Geoff Gauchet, aka Zhephree, has been very busy of late. Not only has he recently updated his Foursquare application with new functions and bug fixes, but he just released the latest version of his link/page sharing app Neato! with a brand-new feature: it now allows users to send a link from their Pre or Pixi to the desktop, in addition to the desktop-to-smartphone option it previously allowed.
Sending a file is fairly simple. According to the in-app instructions:
To send to your computer, make sure you open neato! URL on your computer's web browser (it looks like this: http://zhephree.com/neato/id/a1b2c3 and you can get it by tapping "View Link and Info".) Once the web page is open on your computer, tap the "Send to Computer" button in the app on your phone and enter some text or a URL!
As a reminder, to grab the URL of a Web page you are browsing on your Pre, scroll to the top of the page, and tap the page name above to turn it into a highlighted URL. Copy the URL (Edit-->Copy in the application menu, or by tapping and holding the gesture area while typing C on the thumbboard), and it is placed on the device's clipboard, ready to be pasted into neato! (or any other document or screen).

Also, I just released (like 30mins ago) a neato! extension for Chrome. If you're on Chrome, visit your neato! URL and you can download it there.
Neat! (o)
When I tried to send a link to my computer there is no blue box that comes up on my PC letting me know that the link was received from my phone. I installed the extension in Chrome. Right click on the Neato! button and clicked options. With in the history window I noticed the links I sent from my Pre. Is this where neato! sends the links to page I would like to view on my PC from my Pre ?
With the extension, when it receives text, a red square with two white exclamation points appear on the bottom of the neato! icon. Clicking that opens a little pop-up window with a text field with the sent text in it.
If a URL is sent to the extension, the web page automatically opens in a new tab. If that doesn't happen, you probably didn't grant all of the necessary permissions to the extension. Reinstall the extension and allow everything.
If you're not using the extension, you have to have your neato! page open in order to receive anything from your phone. The blue box pops up on the web page and not just on your computer.
I'm VERY happy to hear this. I love how the bookmark functionality allows neato! to work in any browser, but I use Chrome a lot more than any of the others, so this is definitely welcome. Great Work!
Still a bit confused on what the main purpose of this would be over just sending a text or what not with a URL in it...is there a greater benefit? Can someone set me straight? Thanks!
Certainly!
Let's say you're looking at a Google Map and want to take it on the road with you on your phone. Without neato!:
1. Click the "Link" button on Google Maps.
2. Copy the URL
3. Open chat program, email, or SMS website
4. Type in or select your send-to info (email, phone number, etc)
5. Paste the Google Maps URL
6. Click Send.
7. Go to phone, wait for message to appear.
8. Tap notification in dashboard to open Messaging or Email app.
9. Tap Map link in message.
And here's the steps WITH neato!:
1. Click the neato! button
Yep, that's it.
Also, it allows you to easily install homebrew via Preware or Internalz, download files for wallpaper or ringtones, etc. And now with Phone to PC, let's say a website is too hard to see on your phone or uses Flash or something. Instead of retyping the URL on your computer or emailing the link to yourself, copy/paste it into neato! and tap send and now the page is opened on your computer.
Yeah wish I could use it... I'm in the Netherlands where Palm doesn't support payed apps :S
Browser patch for sending the URL from the Pre browser to the PC via the latest version of Neato! here: http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/268551-patch-neato-url.html
Will be in Preware shortly.
All I can say is AWESOME. Bummer Jempen, hope you can get it soon.
love this app. thank you Geoff Gauchet for giving webos some love.
now many pics found on the internet can be sent to my phone with a mere click. dang!
PLEEEASE get in touch with the maker of the Bad Kitty Super mix patch, would love to have this neato feature working with that patch :)
Hi -- bought the app the other day, but am having a problem and hoping Zephree can help please?
I've sent a number of pages from my computer to my Pre Plus. The "neato! message received" notification pops up on the phone, and I tap it, but that site doesn't then launch on my phone browser as I believe it should. Instead, the neato! app card sort of shutters open and shut really fast. So I've never gotten the app to work. Also, no recent messages appear when I tap "View History" and I've sent a good number from my computer to my phone at this point, trying to use the app.
Did I install it incorrectly? Any help would be appreciated, since I'd love to start using neato! Thanks.
