New in the App Catalog for 01 April 2010 22

by Derek Kessler Fri, 02 Apr 2010 8:28 am EDT

App Catalog After the appapalooza that was the end of March, things got off to a decent start in April. Sure, only a handful or two of new apps landed, but on the updates front there was plenty of action. While we’re used to a lot of updates, this is still a lot. Since we aren’t diving deep to see what all has been put into place, we can only assume what all these non-updated updates mean: apps going international. And that, my friends, is a cool thing indeed. The list is in its normal position, immediately after the break.

New apps:

  • Bumper to Bumper, $1.00, by Snazzy Software: Avoid traffic jams by getting real-time traffic updates.
  • Captain_Nemo, Free, by Pa1mLoyal1st Applications: Maneuver your submarine through hostile board game waters.
  • Ovulation Calender, $4.99, by Prolog: Plug in the length of your menstrual cycle, your last period, and calculate the time of your ovulation to plan or avoid pregnancy.
  • Penguin Panic, $0.99, by Killin' It: Kid-friendly throwing snowballs at penguins game.
  • Phyllis Diller Quotes, $1.99, by Brighthouse Labs: “Most children threaten at times to run away from home. This is the only thing that keeps some parents going.”
  • Pi Master, Free, by Komola UG: Sine sine cosine sign, three point one four one five nine!
  • Political Quotes, $1.99, by Brighthouse Labs: “Without freedom of thought there can be no such thing as wisdom and no such thing as public liberty without freedom of speech. - Benjamin Franklin
  • Pope John Paul II Quotes, $1.99, by Brighthouse Labs: “From now on it is only through a conscious choice and through a deliberate policy that humanity can survive.”
  • SFR Mon Compte, Free, by SFR: (French) Access your My Account page straight from your Palm device. As soon as you can get one on SFR.

Finally, an app for Phyllis Diller quotes. I can't wait to try it out.....um, yea.

That one made me laugh really hard. That app should be a best seller.

Yep. It save to say now that, all developers are re-releasing their apps, to update with the international market. Why not? They want to eat,& make more money. Well, first post is a special place to be.

Off topic. Isn't it feel very snappy after 1.4.1.1? Things just seem a lil faster,& more stable now. Hey Palm, bring on Arak or 1.5, I wonder what they got cooking,& how fast it's gonna be. Well, just putting in my one&two cent.

off topic. anybody else still having Luna restarts with 1.4.1.1??

I had one so far... but my battery life took a major hit

Yes, Damnit :(

Yes, twice in the first six hours. :-(

Haven't had one so far with 1.4.1, but I did get them a number of time with 1.4. Running 720 patch, btw

once I got all my patching done, my Pre seems much more stable as well. I think the WEB OS Platfrom is getting much more stable. Now, if we could just get a wraparaound in the browser when i m typing messages like this one, then I will be truly content. I must admit that I never thought I'd like patching my Pre because I'm such a purist, but I love it. I'm gonna put my 800 mhz kernel back on too! This phone is theee SHIT!

Yes I've had 2 however my battery life interestingly has increased, dropped 7% over 8 hours overnight!

I did not remove my 800mhz patch and everything seems fine so far.

wow...Phillis Diller quotes! Finally! Now if they can just rush David Hasselhoff Quotes to the App Store my Pre (along with my life) will be complete.

When is the junk from them going to stop. It's horrible.

Never. Just as Rene over at TiPb, even the brand-new iPad App Store is full of crap.

Apple has a ton of good apps too though. i think the Palm catalog is far from having a lot of quality apps. Short of Gameloft and the usual suspects like Twee, facebook, the launch apps, etc it's largely novelty apps. I'll be honest, Engadget and facebook are the last non-game apps i've downloaded.

Never? Really. That's too bad. I don't think Palm can have great success by only releasing this caliber of apps. With a new platform i didn't expect the same quantity as the apple app store but i expected similar or better quality specifically. And by quality i don't mean if some developer writes good code or bad code. i mean are the companies that are release apps things i have an interest in. Like the may be well made but honestly i don't know anyone that gives a rat's ass what phyllis diller has to say. Just my two cents.

Now if Brighthouse would come out with a Dieter Quotes, I might consider it...outside of that, they are just fluff, might as well let them release 100,000 quote apps and then Palm can say we have a huge amount of apps too.

I think SpellIt uses Dieter's quotes to show how their spell checker works.

Hey EA GAMES click 'Canada' in your app distribution settings...whats da matter? dont like money?!

finally, an app for all you people complaining about your phones.. An ovulation calendar!

LOL...awesome.

after that last update, my preware aint actin right.when i go to run my preware, it says "loading package information"and right underneath it,it says"Palm catalog" and that's where it stays...and spins, and spins....someone please help me!!!!do i need to restart something over again?

i was quite sad yesterday seeing real apps at launch for the ipad. i don't need or want an ipad but i'm jealous of their apps. we get quotes and calculators and they get ESPN, CNN, yahoo, bbc, bloomberg, and it goes on and on. i have no idea why people want an ipad. But i still wish web os was getting the same quality of apps.
