another update to pmirror awesome :/ but the other stuff is good, I wish you guys would give more details as in what the update actually do. Once 1.3.5 is out 2010 looks to be a great year for Palm & its app store. Now I know the we all like to see the total # of apps go up for the store but seriosly Palm need to get a lil more strict on what is put out. That deve "Doin" looks like he/she is on some quest for the title of who can put out the shittiest app of all time or something.

Slacker Button could be amusing. I'm going to check it out.

Another great list, especially now that my app limit is solved (thanks mvapp team!). And thank goodness there is no "first post" or "but not in Europe"..although I am quite symnpathetic to the later.

BTW, with all theses updates, I would like to have phone funcitonality that alerts me of apps from the catalog that have updates.

...oh yeah, "But not in Europe" (wouldn't want to disappoint anyone!)...

We've hit the dizzying heights of 100+ apps here (all free splendidly).

The idea of the App Catalogue exiting Beta in "early December" was once mooted (and with it the nice idea of bringing Europe in from the cold)... any more rumours?

Slacker may be the only one on the list that's worth the price. Geez, will we ever see any professional quality applications to go with all this fluff?

I'm with you.
While I appreciate that apps are being developed for the Pre, I have yet to purchase an app.
At the top of my list would be a great budgeting/personal finance app.
A mint.com Pre app would be fantastic as well.

...then make one...

There is Checkbook. It is still growing and will have some features similar to mint (like budgeting) in soon to be tested versions

Well, because your standards are so high, we probably won't *ever* see one until *you* create one. Yep - that's the only way any professional apps will be developed.

Good job! Way to insult every single person who has ever actually even made an attempt at developing something for *your* phone.

How about you get off your ass and make one yourself? Or at least stop insulting those who have until you actually have some ground to stand on.

+1. The bellyaching from this guy never stops.

There are lots of stupid comments from those who will make excuses for anything related to the Pre, but this one is just a$$inine. Are you seriously suggesting that anyone who wants to use a Pre for business purposes, or to actually simplify their lives (like the original Palm adds promised), needs to become a programmer?

Funny thing is, I used to program for a living, but that's not what I do today, nor what I have time for. See, I'm actually in business, and have more important things to do with my time.

Funnier still, I can use PCs, Treos, Android phones, even iPhones to do all kinds of things the Pre won't do for me without becoming a programmer again. Is it so unreasonable to think I can do the same things on a Pre? Without having to write the code myself?

I have plenty of ground to stand on. I'm one of the people Palm wants to buy their phone, and if there aren't any actual productivity apps Palm isn't going to reach people like me. I'm a consumer, Palm is the seller. They need to provide a product I want, not a product I have to build themselves.

I like your logic, though. If I can't get a good burger at McDonalds, I should hop over the counter and make my own. Or maybe buy my own cow. Thanks, but I think I'll just go somewhere else and buy a better burger. Which is what will happen with my phone if there aren't any decent calendar and task apps, and backup apps, etc.

And guess what, attempting to do something isn't, in and of itself, worthy of merit. I can try to kick field goals in the NFL, but unless I suceed no one will care. I guess you went through the modern educational system, where people get rewarded for trying, rather than acheiving. Well, welcome to the real world, son, where people care about what you accomplish, not what you try.

I'm really interested to hear your app ideas.

Tell us what you want! We'll be happy to oblige. :)

Meanwhile, I think (many) developers are producing the products that they feel they can complete in a reasonable amount of time, as well as provide what they feel is a valuable addition to the App Catalog.

Post app ideas!!

I think the kinds of apps I, and others, want have been listed thousands of times in the forums here. But here's a brief start: A calendar that has even half the features of Datebk, especially floating appointments, the alarm controls, and the flexible repeat capabilities. Oh, and calendar search. A true backup or sync app that lets me back up and easily restore EVERYTHING on my phone to my local PC in one step (as well as restore single files or apps). Heck, I'd probably even accept one that lets me do the same thing to the cloud. A Keycaps type app. A Profile app (but that needs to wait until Palm provides reasonable customization capability). A good tasks app. Docs To Go, maybe.

And no, I'm not that meyerweb.

By the way, are you the same meyerweb as http://meyerweb.com ? If so, it looks to me like you actually *are* capable...

I'm just sayin...

Finally a metronome!!!!!!!!

Just give me a piano (and 1.3.5 so I can actually install the metronome without uninstalling all the games and crap I never use) and I can start pretending to forget that the iPhone has so many, and so many better, apps it makes the Pre look like a joke (when we're being honest with ourselves).

Well, when I'm being honest with myself I actually don't even need apps, I could get by with a phone that can store 100 names and numbers and can send text messages.

Are there any apps you really need to make your life better or more enjoyable? Besides games, most of Iphone's apps seem to either be junk or web based content that you could just as easily get by using the web. A good chunk of any really nice useful apps seem to have been ported already to the pre.

I went through the iPhone's site which lists all thier featured apps, and the only app that I saw that iphone had that pre didn't that I actually thought was kinda cool was the instrument tuning application, but even that I get by without fine.

+1

Exactly. It's a phone and, like you said, aside from some games to pass the time, isn't every single app a bonus to that in some way?

Lot's of people use these types of devices as portable computers, not just phones. If all I wanted was a phone, a freebie from Sprint would do just fine, on a lot cheaper plan.

just my opinion meyerweb is a total douche and would fit in well with the iphone crowd

Decent installed base = decent apps. What is a decent installed base? Take whatever app you are interested in and look how many devices are out there that could run it when it was released. Then project how long it will be before your device will reach that installed base. That's about how long it will be to see that app on your device.

It may happen sooner if the perception is that your device is definitely going to possibly be one of the top two or three platforms (Android). It will never happen if the perception is that your platform is a dead-end (Palm OS).

Wishful thinking or how much you love your platform as a user doesn't count for anything unless you happen to be the developer. These developers are investing a hell-of-a-lot more in a platform than your 2 year smartphone contract. If things don't work out for this platform, you bail and have a new smartphone that week. The developers are stuck with hundreds of hours of uncompensated time.

Aw, isn't it nice. The trolls are out early this year. And I thought they were all hibernating for the winter.

Everybody wave Hi at the troll!

Can we start getting a list where you detail what the updates actually do?

At the rate updates are being published to the App Catalog, it would likely be a full-time job for p|c to track all changes per app. It seems the majority of developers are listing their changes on their support site or in the reviews or description for their App Catalog page. We put ours in our "news" section (http://bit.ly/6Vm8Ru) when we update Conmigo. I suggest checking the website of the app you are interested in or send them an email. Most developers would be more than happy to let you know what's new/changed in their apps.

I'd love if the WHERE update didn't get rid of Yelp.

How can I revert to the previous version?

I posted it before, but got no replies. I would love to see a world clock app. It does not need to be fancy map or smthing, just menu select your location, select 1 or 2 other locations. (I can not program in HTML and do not have time to learn not, but the hardest part seems to be implementing look up table of daytime saving times switches like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_zoneinfo_time_zones ) (Of course the top of the line would be a patch that would show your time and 2 more other times when you hit time at the top center of Pre screen)

Thanks to one who would be willing to make it.

Will the app developers ever learn that there are countries outside of the US?? In EUROPE for example??

(And will Palm ever let us buy apps in EUROPE?)

I'm sure that like us, most developers are craving the chance to distribute paid apps to ALL countries. Unfortunately, Palm has not finished setting up the App Catalog to allow for international commerce. Word is it's "coming soon".

http://conmigolife.com

Yep. Doing biz in the US = cake. When my company started expanding into worldwide markets...oh momma did we have a wake up call with the challenges involved with local governments, currency conversion\translation, regulatory requirements (like software in Quebec MUST have the ENTIRE UI in French by law)

It's no trivial thing to accomplish, and if they screw up, some foreign gov'ts will revoke your ability to conduct business there. Palm is dotting all the proverbial "I's".

YES! A metronome... FINALLY! And it's free to boot. That was quite a nice early Christmas present for me! :)

Great to see a metronome...now I need tap tempo!!

PFart is updated? Good, we wouldn't want it to get stale.

To the first poster, the idea of an open OS is for it to be... open. If Apple filters it's catalog heavily, which does cut down on the dross but also prevents some good apps from getting released (and getting released in a timely fashion).

IMO, Palm should publish any App that 1. works 2. doesn't violate any copyright or contractual agreements 3. won't bork your phone.

The consumers will self-filter quality.

I don't have a problem with Palm publishing these apps, at least not yet. My problem is that there are no higher end apps to balance them out.

Why do I say "at least not yet"? Because if the catalog really does take off, the sheer volume of 'little' apps will make it nearly impossible to find the important (to me) apps. See the App Store for an example.

Nice, finally an app that will update twitter/myspace/facebook @ same time!

I'm actually very happy with the apps so far. There aren't very many apps, but there aren't too many that all do the same thing, except for games. I'm not a developer and don't know all the technical details about the SDK, but here's a few apps I'd like to see:

- iWant - from iPhone
- a virtual keyboard I can use online
- a "power-saver app" that can give control over brightness and connections to maximize battery life when you're away from a charger
- a racing game controlled by the accelerometer would be awesome

These are just a few examples from a consumer, I'm not that interested in business apps. Thanks to all the developers out there.
