by Dieter Bohn Thu, 04 Mar 2010 11:30 am EST

App Catalog We're assuming you've heard about the newly updated Facebook App. Let's let not allow that to keep us from seeing what else is new.

...What's new is a lot of public domain books packaged up in a convenient book app, plus a few more utilities that appeal to the cook, the traveler, and perhaps to a Republican or two.

Get your pithy literary analysis and a list o' the apps that came out yesterday, after the break!

New apps:

  • NoBAMA free$0 US, by SamNoonan.com. A clock counting down the remaining time Obama is in office.
  • 5000 Quotes$0.99 US, by M-Square Apps. There's quotes here. 5000 of them.
  • Essential Cooking Calculators$3.99 US, by Sidetop Software. 16 calculators, conversion tables and handy look ups included.

and perhaps to a Republican or two.
lol!

Unfortunately, WebOS 1.4 is causing pauses in tilt based games like Block Breaker and Topple Ball. When you play, please avoid the tilt feature and just use your finger to control the paddle. I'm attempting to contact Palm about the issue and apologize for the performance of the game.

NoBAMA free!

Looks like you guys automated this a bit now, too! Love that they're linked!

Question: How come some are showing up "$0" while others are showing up as "Free"?

NObama downloaders are gonna be awfully disappointed when it has to reset itself in 3 years. Might wanna wait on that one, Pubbies...

Keep dreaming. The idiots who put that man in office are finally waking up. Those I was unable to successfully vote republican have all admitted regret in their vote.

"Those I was unable to successfully vote republican have all admitted regret in their vote."

Yeah, but those people are idiots.

I sure glad that you've given him so much time to clean up the mess left by the Bush II before you try to push him out of office. Seems so reasonable.

By "clean up" you mean "spend his way out of"... You can't do that and it leaves us worse off. That's why people want him out. Gotta love the "blame Bush" rhetoric though. That's real big of you.

+1 bush had 8 years to screw everything up but I guess obama was supposed to fix it in a year even with the republicans blocking everything. The senate is what's stoping progress because in our screwed up system 41 is greater than 59

Lol! It was 60 up until.. what? a month ago?!

Yes, Bush spent too much money, too! But as a rational person I can see Bush's faults as well as his strengths. Obama is not the messiah! He is flawed. At least acknowledge that! He's a great public speaker but isn't that strong of a leader. He also is learning on the job and had no experience coming in. The double standard is that libs (Michael Wilbon of PTI comes to mind) say that Sarah Palin is inexperienced but don't hold President Obama to that same standard back when he was just a Senator.

Inexperienced + intelligent vs. inexperienced + not the brightest bead on the rosary. You decide.

you guys are on a cell phone website, who really cares what u think of bush and obama? just sayin..

you guys are on a cell phone website, who really cares what u think of bush and obama? just sayin..

Yeah, and thats why Obama has a 27% approval rating not even a year into his presidency.

Polling your Republican friends doesn't count. His lowest current poll number is Rasmussen's 47% (Rasmussen consistently polls him negatively, FWIW). Not sure which planet you found "27%" on. And it's actually already past 1 year into his presidency. Check out pollster.com for the averages.

The break down is 27% Strongly Approve, 19% Approve, 13% Disapprove, and 41% Strongly Disapprove. Obama will soon be facing a voter base where half strongly disapprove of him. Not just disapprove. Strongly.

Just like President Bush brought out strong dislike in his opponents. President Obama brings out strong dislike. And at a percentage greater than Bush after two wars and a very negative press.

It will be an interesting and hate filled 3 years. Rather depressing actually.

Now, all of you, go and play a video game, pet a puppy, and eat a big chunk of pink cotton candy.

All politicians are pretty unpopular right now. What's funny is that if you stacked Obama's approval ratings up against any other national political figure, he would dominate them. The fact is despite his less-than-stellar numbers, he's still the most popular politician in America.

And once the political environment comes down not to a singular judgment of Obama, but a choice between Obama (who is at least TRYING to solve the biggest problems our country has ever seen), and a complete dip$hit like Sarah Palin who does not care a whit for problem solving nor ever did, Obama will destroy the oppostion in a rout.

You know it, and I know it.

In this world of 24 hour news flowing from six different channels, hateweb coming in broadband doses and extreme-side-talk-radio, we'll likely never have an "approved" president again. Clinton and Bush were universally hated, and both served two terms.

Its not how bad the Presidents are, its how bad the replacement candidates look. We analyze these guys until it seems like the known evil is much safer than the unknown evil.

Downloading Nobama now!!!!

Groovee app - Does anyone know if it requires the VIP membership like the grooveshark app does?

Thanks for the links.

You know, I was really enjoying my Palm Pre until I realized something about the applications - most of them are the basic rightwing extremist toolbook. Bible quote apps, nothing like taking the word of God out of context for manipulation - who would want to randomly find a quote to fit their motive? OH that is right, the Westboro Baptist Church.

Now we have NoBama, the reviews on this site - trying to egg 'libtards' into a frenzy are so much cleaner but just hateful enough to identify the missing words from the ones within App Catalog that promote this poorly constructed countdown clock. So a majority of teabaggers must be using my phone. Thus explains why quality of apps is going down the crapper.

"So a majority of teabaggers must be using my phone. Thus explains why quality of apps is going down the crapper."

Yeah, I think you're on to something there. Teabaggers turn everything they touch into $hit.

Yeah I definitely wish Palm would quit saturating their app catalog with all of these bad right wing applications. Some of the reviews for the NoBama app were extremely hard to stomach. It's hard to believe that people can be THAT ignorant. To clearly not have any knowledge about what's occurring in our country right now blows my mind. And those comments illustrate pure stupidity to me. People just blow my mind. It really isn't that hard to find a good credible source these days. Still idiots insist on receiving their info from their idiot friends, and the Fox news network which is notorious for spinning the truth. It seems pretty clear that there are a bunch of teabaggers among us. Hateful teabaggers that probably want to keep paying out the ass for health insurance. Because that's smart

so who is gonna pay for the obama healthcare plan or do u not care like the rest of the freeloading welfare loving 9 baby having crackheads.

what do u suggest left wing its ok to have a partial birth abortion apps or here don't worry about insurance ur neighbor works i'm sure he doesn't mind paying for it

"ur neighbor works i'm sure he doesn't mind paying for it"

Your neighbor already does. Who do you think covers the hospital stays for the uninsured? The emergency room visits? Guess who, buddy? The currently insured.

you libs are funny you can bash bush for 8 years and that's ok? But we make fun of obama for a lil over a year and you girls get you panties in a bunch? It's ok for you to voice your opion but not us ? How free is that? At least bush could make up his mind! And obama studders and sounds worse than bush ever did..

"you libs are funny you can bash bush for 8 years and that's ok? But we make fun of obama for a lil over a year and you girls get you panties in a bunch?"

Yes, I'm SURE there was no whining from you when Bush was criticized over the last 8 years.

"It's ok for you to voice your opion but not us ? How free is that?"

Oh PLEASE. No one said anything about how you and your GOPer toadies can't say whatever you like. What exactly is this mental block that causes Republicans to consider criticism a curtailing of their right to free speech. You are free to criticize. You are NOT FREE FROM CRITICISM.

"And obama studders and sounds worse than bush ever did.."

Here's a tip: if you're going to mock someone for their perceived lack of facility with the English language, you had best learn how to spell.

What you meant to say was, "At least Cheney could make up Bush's mind."

George Bush was a terrible speaker. Moronic even. As in "I forgot what I was supposed to be talking about" moronic. To think that anyone feels he was a better speaker than the obviously more educated Barrack Obama is just plain sad. You might as well say that you don't like Obama because he's articulate.

hey they went to the same school! Obama was pushed throgh cause he is half black, he prolly didn't even show up to half the classes cause he was porking fat white chicks.. O and bush was a fighter pilot, top of his class... Obama can't drive worth a shit... Our last president could fly fighter plains and our current president can.... Well he knows how to spend money, and party.. Ya good trates of a president!! What has he done before this? Nothing, he has never held a real job... Just politicle ones.. He will be gone soon, lets just hope we can fix what he fucks up. And why does he want to fix health care ?? It's not broken, we have the best in thw world.. Leaders from other countrys come here to get fixed, what does that say about there health care? It sucks just like nobama...haha

"hey they went to the same school! Obama was pushed throgh cause he is half black, he prolly didn't even show up to half the classes cause he was porking fat white chicks.."

TAKE THAT RACIST $HIT SOMEWHERE ELSE YOU F*CKING A$$HOLE.

that's all these libs say racist...got anything smart to say?

"that's all these libs say racist...got anything smart to say?"

You were the one who insisted on dragging the president's race into this forum. When you say racist things about him or anyone else, you will be called on it.

I was just stating the truth... I thought black guys like fat white chicks? I see it all the time.. I'm white and I like grape soda... I wish they had tallboys....

KKK Grand Dragon has spoken! So let it be written, so let it be done!

"obama was pushed through cause he's half black" I guess bush II didn't get any special treatment cause of daddy

ok lab partner lets do some math... Bush is 66.. So when he was in collage he was 18 or 19 that's 45+ years ago! His daddy wasn't president then you dumbass... So what are you talking about?

"ok lab partner lets do some math... Bush is 66.. So when he was in collage he was 18 or 19 that's 45+ years ago! His daddy wasn't president then you dumbass... So what are you talking about?"

His father was a powerful Congressman and wealthy oilman up to and during Bush's college years. Daddy Bush was a Yale alum and a member of Skull and Bones. GWB's grandfather was also a Yale alum and a powerful former Senator. Bush's entree into the Ivy League is about as textbook a case of familial legacy nepotism as it gets. And you don't have to be president to engage in successful nepotism.

You're aware that Bush failed the flight simulator for the F102 fighter several times over two separate occasions right? Are you aware that he technically didn't log enough hours to be accepted into the Air National Guard? Did you know that his flight status was suspended because he didn't take his annual physical on account of doing cocaine? What a great American!

"And why does he want to fix health care ?? It's not broken, we have the best in thw world.. Leaders from other countrys come here to get fixed, what does that say about there health care? It sucks just like nobama...hahah"

If you were even remotely intelligent, which I can tell you're not by your disgusting use of grammar, then you would realize our healthcare system is terrible. The World Health Organization places America in 37th place. Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Chile all have higher rankings than us. It's no surprise that France has the best healthcare in the world. Doctors get payed for saving more lives, not by how many pills they sell the patient... wow what a crazy concept! You can also go to college for free in France thanks to their government. There are ways the government can help us that you aren't even considering. Seriously, all you have to do is a little bit of research to see there are better things out in the world that could benefit our country. People in America need to stop having such a narrow scope of what happens around us. How can you expect to grow or learn anything new when you can't even take a look at the bigger picture?

free is not the answer! europe is burning up faster than we are, and the world health org.. Is a fucking joke, you want to have a major operation you come to the usa... Again free stuff is not free, they will tax you.... The rich get taxed enough... Please look up the % of taxes that rich pay in,,, the richest 10% pay way over half of the taxes brought in..... How is that fare? All you libs hate the rich when your obama is very rich.... And one more question, who do the rich employ? Us if it wasn't for rich people we would all work for the government.... Look at the states with the highest % of state employes... They are failing... See a patern? Bigger government is not the answer

It's funny that Republicans want less government, yet they didn't seem to have a problem with the Bush administration taking the reigns and doing whatever they wanted with it.

In what ways are the World Health Organization a "fucking joke?" Do you even know what they do?

"You want to have a major operation you come to the USA."

Yeah and then you still get put on a waiting list and/or are denied care because of previous health conditions.

"The rich get taxed enough... Please look up the % of taxes that rich pay in,,, the richest 10% pay way over half of the taxes brought in..... How is that fare?"

When the majority of the people in the country are suffering then I would consider it fair that they pay more taxes. If random rich guy #35 has to wait till the next quarter to buy his second summer home then so be it. Sometimes it's humane to think about the well being of others. Historically it doesn't help when only a few prosper. But hey I can see why you wouldn't want to take a look at the past. I mean why would you want to learn from others mistakes in order to press foward?

then why do politicians from other countries come here for there operations and yes it is humane to think about someone else when ur not forced to do it u wanna live in a communist or socialist country move

Why can't we live in a free society?

Where I choose between more than Dumb & Dumber?

Why can't I live with kings of propriety?

Where no man has to stick it to no master?

And I just love how now this particular App-specific forum has now turned political. Way to go, everyone! In the future, can we all agree to direct those comments elsewhere? It's keeping those, like myself, who want to comment on/read about the ACTUAL afore-mentioned applications from continuing to enjoy this portion of Precentral.net. Thanks!

don't know why we're talking politics on this forum but heres one to think about. Now I wasn't a big fan of George W... However there's one fact everyone is looking over.. Honestly did anyone pay atention in your government class and know how the United States operates? The last 4years of his presidency(his second term) is when stuff went down hill quickly.. Hmm lets think about this.. That election he may of won but oh my the DEMOCRATIC PARTY won the majority of the house and the senate.. Which ment we had a republican president with NO POWER because anything he would want done has to go through the House and the Senate which can over rule his actions with a majority vote.. Sooo that being said if the House and the Senate want to pass some crazy tax laws or any other messed up things they can pass it.. Then it goes to the president where he could VETO the bill however just to have it come back to the House and the Senate where they could majority vote and over rule his VETO.. Hmmm sooo if the Democratic party had control in his last term... And the United States went down hill in the last term.. Hmmmm that's something to think about there.. Try risky things and let the republican president be the scape goat if your plans fail.. Politics are wacked like that.

"Honestly did anyone pay atention in your government class and know how the United States operates?"

I'm not sure if you did. There are many inaccuracies in how you portray our government and its history in your comment.

"The last 4years of his presidency(his second term) is when stuff went down hill quickly.. Hmm lets think about this.. That election he may of won but oh my the DEMOCRATIC PARTY won the majority of the house and the senate.."

That's an inaccurate and highly limited view of history. "Stuff" did not start to go "down hill quickly" in his second term. The economy was screwed from day one of the first year of his presidency. His approval ratings were worse than Obama's right up until 9/11, when the country rallied around the flag. The Iraq War kicked off in 2003, one and a half years into his FIRST TERM. It quickly mounted casualties and has ever since.

As for his re-election, you say the Democratic Party won the majority of the House and the Senate at the same time Bush won re-election. Not true. The Dems took control of Congress in 2006, 2 years into Bush's 2nd term. Before they got that opportunity, however, in 2005, Bush allowed New Orleans to simply drown on his watch.

"Then it goes to the president where he could VETO the bill however just to have it come back to the House and the Senate where they could majority vote and over rule his VETO.."

Once again, no. Congress cannot override a president's veto with a simple majority, which is what the Dems had between 2006-2008. They need a TWO-THIRDS majority, which they didn't have. Look it up.

the right wing "crapps" are terrible, but I don't know how to program anything better. I spose us "end users" and slightly more educated end users (homebrewers and tweakers) are at the mercy of the developers. As for the politics, screw it, there is nothing we can actually do about it. Sure, people can say "thats what voting is for" or "it's democracy, rule by the people" but we haven't actually been a democracy since lobbyists started pushing their agendas through the system. Forgive any grahmatycal or syntax errors. It's a comment thread not a f*cking mid-term essay..

-yawn-

Nice to see that politics have taken over this particular post.

While I personally am a left-leaning Independent, I don't come to Precentral to talk about my political views, and I don't care much for anyone else's here either. Don't like the noBama app? Ignore it. It's not doing you much harm.

"Seeing as he is trying to destroy everything the founding fathers put into place..."

+1

Grow up people! If you hated Bush, as many do, and this were a No Bush app you would be loving it.

Just because you like Obama does not mean we all do. Get over it. I did not vote for him but when he got elected I thought, "Hey I will give the guy a chance." Wow...

Seeing as he is trying to destroy everything the founding fathers put into place, I can now, thanks to this cool app, only count the days until he is gone.

You know we fought a war and founded this country to get away from heavy government control. I have no idea why you would want that back. Once they are in control it will NEVER go away.

The left think all emotional... everyone should have everything. I wish that could be done but the problem is life does not work like that and never will and I for one don't want to have to pay for everyone else when I work hard for my money.

I don't see any lefties here offering to pay for Pre apps for those that cannot afford them and I for one would not want to be forced to pay for them. :)

Sorry I was not going to post here but the comments drove me to it. :)

"I don't see any lefties here offering to pay for Pre apps for those that cannot afford them and I for one would not want to be forced to pay for them. :)"

Pre Apps = Life-saving medical insurance

TOTALLY THE SAME THING.

12 new "applications":

8 are books/quotes/recipes, which are already free on the net and not applications.

2 are conversion apps, both can be done from Google.

1 is yet another website front end. Can be done with browser.

So there is really only 1 app... a silly Obama countdown.

Not impressed!!!

Is there a way to control the language in here and in the App reviews? Come on guys, show your intelligence by being able to communicate without Profanity. Or maybe you are showing your intelligence.

hmm...am I out of place asking a question about old palm apps and the pre? geesh!

I've been a TX user since it came out. I rely on using MS Office docs and don't want to sacrifice that. Also, don't want to drag my TX around if the Pre could do the same thing. Also, I love the ease of Pocket Tunes for audio books. Used a lot of mp3 players and some just don't get the chapters/tracks in the right order etc.

So, to those of you coming from a TX or Tungsten world...what has been your experience?
