If you thought that Monday was a slow app day, whooo boy you'll be disappointed by yesterday. We got one update. No new apps, not even several updates. Just one. Here we go...
Updated apps:
- Tweed, $1.99: Adds landscape support and several additional tweaks.
We should also note that FlightView is now charging $4.99 for FlightView (though no features have been updated). Because the app is the "same" version users who downloaded it when it was free will be able to continue using it. Those who got FlightView for free will be able to download future updates at no additional cost (the App Catalog knows you have it and that's all it cares about).

what is the difference from the flightview app that is $4.99 and flightview.com on the web? i work at the airport and use the one on the web alot.. would like the app but i'm not paying when i can do the same on the web !
Good thing i never deleted flightview then...
Same here !
It's weird.. I didn't want FlightView when it was free but now that it's $4.99, strangely now I want it.
Subconsciously, does it having a price now give it more worth in your mind? :)
I think what happens is when you know its free, you leave it open for future download to save space...but this time you got bent over..haha that sucks IDK i never use the app though, so don't feel so down
Now if only the Tweed app would update - it's been failing every time since last night.
Ditto on Tweed. Whoa! It finally updated!
Hello landscape view and new gesture controls!
I finally deleted mine and re-downloaded. That worked.
Sweet, that fixed it for me too - thanks guys.
And to think, I almost deleted FlightView because I hate its launcher icon. Well, I guess I'll keep it now.
Still wish I could change the icon though. I hate that big background. It just doesn't "match", ya know?
Wow, that's crazy! But this brings up a good question...how are companies justifying the cost of their apps? The majority of paid apps are at least $2. And the apps don't really do much at all! I guess having my iPod Touch apps makes me angry to see comparable apps on the Pre cost more even though it's supposed to be easier to program for the Pre than the iPod Touch/iPhone.
Next time you go to the movies ask how they can justify charging you $3 for a Coke. Or on a boat, in an amusement park, or from a vending machine in the middle of nowhere.
The answer will be implied - "Feel free to get your Coke somewhere else if you don't like the price. However, we're the only game in town right now. We need to make as much profit selling you this one Coke as the grocery store does selling you a 12 pack and all your other groceries that trip."
Since there are about 50 million iPhones/iPod Touch's out there and about a million Pre's right now, developers are going to try to charge more for Pre apps because sales are going to be that much lower. And, there's not a lot of competition to prevent them from doing so. That's why 100,000 apps in the App Store isn't such a bad thing even if you only need a few.
Thank heavens for HomeBrew then...
:)
I guess Flightview was a bonus for early adopters. They still need to fix the rather-hideous UI choices, free or not.
I would still have flightview but had to delete it due to the tiny app limit!
wow, glad that I got it for free. It's really a pretty nice app but $4.99 might be over charging a bit!
Many new Apps today...check the list again
I'm just curious, Android has been around about a year now. They advertise 10,000 apps for the Droid. What are the odds there's going to be 10,000 apps for WebOS next June? I'd say the odds are better for me wining the lottery - and I don't play the lottery.
No
My sister is considering the Pre or Pixi for her next phone. I know what she wants and what she does, and what I think she'll like, and basically the only downside for her is the small app catalog. (300 webOS, 10,000+ Android, 80,000+ iPhone)
I'm not sure what the answer is for Palm, either. Hard to get customers to buy a phone with no apps, hard to get developers to make apps for a phone with no customers -- classic catch-22.
How did Android do it? Just sheer Google-power?

Well, for one, Android's been out for a while longer than webOS...
sigh I wanted FlightView when it was free but it is not available for us poor GSM users and now when it eventually will be, probably be
I'm a bit upset that I paid for Tweed the day after it went to paid app status and now I have to pay AGAIN just for the update! To me that is just not right and I may end up not using their app anymore in protest. And the fact that I just paid for the Peg game on Saturday and now have to pay for an update, less than six days after first paying for it, just stinks as well.
(edited later)
Okay, it seems that if you are doing your check for updates via the webOS updater it shows as a purchase but if you check Tweed via the App Catalog it downloads for free.
My bad...
