New in the App Catalog for 04 February 2010 22

by Derek Kessler Fri, 05 Feb 2010 8:02 am EST

App Catalog Yesterday actually brought a few interesting new apps to the App Catalog. We’ll start with Palm Videos, a free app with a few quasi-tutorial videos on how to use your webOS phone. Right now it watches more like an advertisement, which seems kind of redundant since if you’re watching the video you already own the phone. And finally in the App Catalog is the Bad Kitty client for Twitter. We’ve been waiting for Bad Kitty to land for what seems like months now, but it’s finally here. That’s just a sampling of what’s new - if you want more, you’re going to have to jump past the break for the complete list.

New apps:

  • Apartment Search by UDR, Inc, Free, by UDR: Find and review apartments operated by UDR.
  • Bad Kitty, $2.99, by SuperInhuman Industries: A Twitter client with style, security, type-to-tweet, and multiple account support.
  • Bing Wallpaper Search, $1.99, by CTL Advance CSAT: Use Bing image search to find wallpapers for your phone.
  • Elizabethan Insult Generator, Free, by Floating Stone Design: Let William Shakespeare be your classical insult guide.
  • Game Clock, Free, by Unlimited Juice: Game timer with up to six player clocks.
  • LootHands, $1.00, by Dsveen: Fast-paced casino rules blackjack.
  • More Cowbell! The Game, $0.99, by Andy T. Evans: Solve problems on the farm with a little bit of the bell.
  • Palm Videos, Free, by Palm: Quick how-to videos for you webOS phone. Currently lacking a bit - hopefully we’ll see some more updates in the future.
  • Pros & Cons, $1.49, by Dezign Apps: Weigh the pros and cons of any decision.
  • Slide Show, $1.99, by Clear Water: See your wallpaper in full screen. Will cycle through wallpapers when coupled with a switcher like Switcharoo or Flickr Addict.
  • Warranty Manager, Free, by Logdog82: Keep track of the various warranties for your purchases.

Updated apps:

  • Advanced BAC Calculator, $1.49
  • Backgrounds, Free
  • Birthdays, Anniversaries, & More!, $0.99
  • Dropee, $0.99

New apps! New apps! Come on video. Come on flash. Come on rumors of Pre 2.

+1

Baddy Kitty was worth the wait. Its gorgeous!

Saw bad kitty in the store and bought it right away. Great UI, great app!. I was in homing mode and zoned in on bad kitty, now I see the other apps and yeah, not much other else in there right now that was released. :)

cool apps! I'm so excited for 1.4! I hope the sdk has more features on it too

Palm Videos! It would be nice to believe that palm reads and acts on posts here ;)

Palm Videos is a piece of junk!

Palm Videos is simply the result of gross incompetence, absolutely awful!

They have these same useless videos at Palm

Not much for my birthday. Oh well. I can't wait for 1.4 and flash, and moreso, I cannot wait for the Pre2 and whatever else Palm brings us.

Happy Birthday!

Thanks

Thank you

Am I seeing things...did the app count go from 1368 to 1355 yesterday. Did anyone else notice this?

Whew! Good to know I wasn't the only one to notice this ... I wonder what happened to the 13 apps?

maybe Palm got rid of some Dijit ones... ?

Seeing 1367 right now...

The catalog has been behaving very strange these past few weeks.

The only condition under which I would be happy of the count going down is if they consolidated the Digit and Brighthouse Lab apps where the app is the same but only the content changes.

I understand that this would make collecting payment for each new content type an issue for those development houses. Maybe Palm can keep everyone happy by adding another level to the catalog UI by introducing 'grouped apps'. Tapping on a grouped app would expand the selection (like clicking on the '+' sign to expand a folder on a computer).

It would be a win-win-win. Palm keeps the app count high, the developer gets to charge for each content type (e.g., different sports teams), and the user doesn't have to scroll through dozens of additional apps.

Great idea!

Hey DEREK: In light of this - Maybe include the number of Apps in the Catalog at the end of these posts? Would be good for future stat-collecting too :)

For the record, Pocket Party is a NEW app to the official catalog, and a home brew graduate. :)

All this talk of the Pre 2? I personally think it's too early! The Pre Plus needs at least six months before there's even a rumour of a Pre 2.
