New in the App Catalog for 06 August 2010 11

by Derek Kessler Sat, 07 Aug 2010 10:39 am EDT

App Catalog Yesterday was a bit of a light day for the App Catalog, and those apps that were released were dominated by submissions from the test prep extraordinaires at Upward Mobility. That’s not us saying that they’re bad news apps (they aren’t, for the record), just that for whatever reason Palm only managed to push out two non-Upward apps, and with it all combined it makes for some fairly ho-hum highlights. So we’ll skip that today and I’ll just direct you past the break to see the business that is the business.

I doubt any of the games for 1.4.5 are selling,I hope it doesnt make the developers shy from palm platform.
We like upward mobility, if I was giving any of those exams, I would have bought the app. I wish they make some general apps as well. Come to think of it upward mobility would be a good name for arcade style games ;)

I agree, the missing 1.4.5.1 update in the US could really hurt palm in the end. Developers were finally getting into webOS and the carriers are too busy worrying about their precious android platform to hammer out the minor details in the update and make it available so the hot apps contest can kick into high gear...

If you were in the carrier biz I bet you would focus on Android too. I'm sure they are out activating webOS thousands to one. Although we will never hear Palm say how many webOS devices are being activated monthly like we hear Google gloating...

Whoa developers were finally getting into webOS?

why would anyone buy one set of flash cards one app at a time when you can buy James Harris's one time and download thousands of sets for free?

why would anyone buy one set of flash cards one app at a time when you can buy James Harris's AMAZING ''flashcards'' one time and download thousands of sets for free?

Because Upward Mobility is the Brighthouse Labs of the Education Category. Get ready for Brighthouse to enter this category as well...

These are test prep Apps, for high end certification exams. These certifications bring increased leverage to an employee's toolkit when dealing in corporate hell holes. I doubt the flashcard app provides oracle cert prep. Perhaps I'm wrong.

I'm with ya, i have absolutely no need for their apps but i actually think its great that they exist, They are very specified niche apps and i think the developer knows it, and i'm fine with it. I feel bad ppl catagorize them with "crap" apps. I'm sure someone somewhere is really getting alot out of these educational apps.

Regardless i think people need to stop complaining because its bringing our app totals higher and thats what people really notice when asking about a smartphone os.

I appreciate the folks who are sticking up for us! Everyone else, I definitely see where you're coming from. Honestly, I wish our apps were tougher to find like they are in the other app stores. When I look on the Palm app store, I see our apps smattered everywhere. On the other app stores, you have to be looking for some really niche-y topic.

And it probably seems like we're pumping out like 10 a day on Palm, but this is years of content we've built up doing apps on iPhone, Android and paper based tests...

HP has a particle system bechmark up, their second app (even though it's still in beta).
