Tradewinds - "sales into the wind"??? maybe sails
I think it was a pun. It's a trading (i.e. buying and selling) game.
I'm a little slow.
With no announcement for us Sprint users I am hard pressed ito buying anything else from the app store. I don't wanna buy stuff and find I'll just have to either switch carriers or find a crappier phone to use..
If you switch carriers for a Pre 2 (or other WbeOS device) your apps will go with you as part of your palm profile.
yes but I'll be on a crap network that charges for data used, I use my phone to do everything online and would be very unhappy if it comes to that.
Actually, verizon still has an unlimited data plan.
unlimited for how long? And at what price? We pay about 115 a month for 2 pre's unlimited txting and data, free sprint to sprint calls (which 98% of our friends and all of our family is on.)
Don't you mean free to any cell (not just Sprint)? Sprint is the only company that offers this for free. If you don't have it i'd recommend talking to sprint and getting it.
I had the same plan on Sprint, two Pre's, same thing, and they were charging me $200 a month after all the fees, phone insurance and Sprint Family Locator. That's not cheap.
and verizon has a great network; the only reason you think Sprint's network is so great is probably because you roam on verizon's towers.
the only downside to being on verizon is that it costs a little more.
if you really want a Pre 2, Verizon will have one for you on Friday most likely.
No, I think Sprints network is great because I travel across the US daily and never have a problem. That little EV signal is lit up damn near anywhere I go, and having had verizons service at one time I was unhappy with their crap service and lousy choice of phones.
I doubt Verizon will have the Pre 2 tomorrow. I was in the store today talking to the rep I've been asking for three weeks now about the Pre 2, and he said they still have not heard anything about it. He's motivated to find out too because he knows I'm thinking of moving a four line family plan to Verizon.
don't they have to train them first, not that there is much different? but i thought i saw flyers about training. Thus if she knows nothing, wouldn't that mean she hadn't got the training? and wouldnt' getting the training precede getting the phone? i'm just guessing i don't fully understand the process.
I would think that is right. If they haven't heard anything yet then it will probably be at least a week before it goes on sale.
that's not actually true. i almost never roam as i live in an immensly populated city with tons of sprint towers.
But when i did roam on verizon it was horrible cause it got no data and only a 1x signal most of the time. this was in south carolina last month. my phone was basically unusable other then phone calls which i make few of. obviously if i was verizon i'd probably get better data and the experience would be better but for sprint users roaming on verizon, in my experience, sucked ass.
I'm on Sprint and I've been roaming at times getting a weak 1X signal while a friend beside me with a Verizon phone had a strong EVDO signal. So either all roaming isn't on Verizon or roaming phones are treated as second-class citizens.
I recall reading...probably in the forums...that Sprint does roam on Verizon's network, but that they get the 'seconds' on access. Verizon customers get first dibs on bandwidth/access, but if there is available left over access, Sprint can tap into that. I also recall the discussion talking about whether you even get data roaming or whether Sprint only gets voice roaming (probably including texting). I suppose you could search the forums for such discussions...I'm being lazy today and only feel like watching the clouds go by... Good luck! ;)
I guess you could save some and download all your apps over again on WiFi. Everything else is on you.
I feel the same way. If HP/Palm doesn't announce a new WebOS phone soon (not the palm pre 2), then i'm going to switch to the HTC Evo so what's the point of buying WebOS apps?
100s of hp developers working on webOS apps and so far all they've given us is soundboards?
Maybe HP and other developers are writing apps for webOS 2.0 and not putting anymore effort into the current OS since they've had it for awhile now.
http://www.precentral.net/hp-tunes-app-catalog-melodeo-services-dripping
those aren't exactly soundboards. those various 'top-100' music apps stream the current top 100 songs in the given genre. you pay one time, and get the top 100 songs forever. it's part of the melodeo acquisition.
they know what we want. there are threads full of real app requests. They just can't make the apps we want. Like netflix streaming or an ESPN's Sportcenter app. I'm convinced we get soundboards and crap cause the current developers are unable to make those apps. I guess ESPN has to make there app. I would guess that if you want to get access to mint.com accounts mint has to let you somehow. So my guess is until HP takes inititive to get the apps made, or companies just up and decide to make apps like these we won't get them. Hopefully the companies will change their mind and make apps. But i don't really see a catalyst on the horizon that will make companies that otherswise decided not to make a webos app all of a sudden change their mind. But right now something is amiss cause the apps getting made aren't what people are requesting or have been requesting for more then a year.
They did give us a kind of dumb reminder app. It doesn't actually remind you of anything useful. You can't just go into it and say 'remind me to take my pill tonight' or 'remind me to call so and so.' I can't remember the name of it or I'd look it up and link to it but it was pretty dumb. I think the best is still to come though.
HP Developers need to start focusing on major corporations when developing apps. So many apple and android advertisements show how they integrate with fedex, banks, health checking tools, etc. When people see how the phone is starting to fit into society and help them accomplish their needs/wants, that's when they'll be interested.
Who cares for yet another streaming music app? Seriously guys, this is what you come up with? If I've got loaded music on my phone, what do I care about streaming music? Maybe that's just a "new developer app" or something to get their hands wet. OK, well, start working on the apps that you see all those apple commercials with, then advertise it so the public knows that palm is also in the game.
maybe, just maybe all the things(well most of them) we want now, will be available in 2.0, dont forget 2.0 will be bring much needed api's for developers and we will probably see some featured apps at CES. CES will be another coming out party for webOS...oooh, shiiinnnyyyy
If all we see is apps at CES and no new hardware then I'm def. going to jump ship to the HTC Evo.
How about because streaming music gives you access to all those songs without having to store them, giving you more space for photos and videos?
+1 Major companies are what's needed not just small developers cause they aren't making the major apps.
Thank you Astraware for Tradewinds 2! I loved the first Tradewinds on my Tapwave Zodiac 2, I'll have to try this one!
They had Tradewinds 2 for the PalmOS also
Humpf!!
I believe that I gonna begin to create my own apps... :-/
Best Regards...
There are rumors that webOS 2.0 will bring a flood of apps from HP as well as other developers. By rumors, I mean that I read this a couple of times in "Comments"
webOS 2.0 will also bring lepricorns and unichauns. Pass it on.
It is great to see that Astraware is bringing some of the old favorites to the webOS.
Tradewinds was/is a fun game.
Meh, you could play similar games on VBA or SuperNES.
I don't have a VBA...or a Super NES...or a regular NES...I do however have a Palm Pre, and old school games are fun too! I like this Tradewinds 2, but I would like the ability to build a fleet, have more than just one ship. Is there some point at which you can 'unlock' this feature? It was an element of the original Tradewinds.
Tradewinds, the original game, had fleet building as a feature. Tradewinds 2, had ship upgrading and weaponry. As both are based on original PC games from Sandlot Games, we have to develop the webOS versions to match the original PC versions as best we can.
Whilst Tradewinds 2 doesn't include the ability to build a fleet it does have a huge amount more gameplay. The original just had buying and selling and pirate battles and was based in the Far East around 4 main ports. Tradewinds 2 is based in the Caribbean and includes 5 different characters to play as, over 100 different tasks and missions to complete, and 20 different ports to explore, as well as all the trading of booty and pirate battles. There's quite a bit more to the second game versus the first one. We hope you enjoy playing it!
