still watching for Flash
flash... I'd settle for 1.4.5
They need to ban Appbookshop damnit
Today was a good day, 29 apps and only 10 of them by Appbookshop.
offerEye looks cool...but it's $10 :( worth it?
seriously! I wouldn't pay more than $2 for any app, I don't care how well it is. $10 is just downright greedy, especially when google goggles is free!
you wouldn't pay more than 2 bucks for an app?! Some people work extremely hard to continuously create and update their apps.. And not all apps are created equal! Some are worth a buck, and some are definitely worth 5 or more.
saying you wouldn't pay more than 2 bucks is like saying you wouldn't pay more than 2 dollars for a cd/digital album.. It doesn't make sense.
some apps do a ton, and make like so much easier, and all you're willing to shell out is 2 bucks? Who's the greedy one?
And you know this will be the same guy that complains that there are no good (or not enough) apps!
Deiter or one of the guys, made the point in an early podcast that consumers don't care how much time someone spends making something. So app makers can't expect to price apps based on the effort. Consumers are paying for a product not the developers effort and there is a limit to what most people will pay. If it takes you a long time to make something, making you jack up the price they probably shouldn't make the product. especially when competition has similar products at the price point you want thus the price point is already set. and in general dollar apps are a big selling point to consumers.
Like if the market says ball point pens are worth 50 cents. you can't really get mad if you spend 50 times as long making a perfect pen but people don't want to pay $250 for the pen. really they just shouldn't have made a pen at that price point. It may be a great pen. It may "do a ton". Ferraris are great but most people can only justify buying a Camry of an Accord. Most people just won't pay that much. So if they can't make the app and bring it in at a price most users in the market want it.
They're going to need the $10 towards patent litigation costs...
I've paid 10 for a pdk game or two, but yeah, a google goggles competitor should be cheap if not free
Hi, I am the designer of OfferEye. Our app is not "Google Goggles" competitor. Is different, ok? More info (coraapps.com/offereye) Thanks :)
google makes tons of revenue through their ads and partnerships- regular small software companies don't.. Unless they charge, they can't compete.
jeffrok I can see where everyone is coming from with that app being 10 bucks. I can also see where you are coming from. Yes 2bucks does seem like a lowballer.. If anything OfferEye being 10bucks is a little steep for what it does. 5dollars is more reasonable.
the only way 10 bucks sounds ok is if it is actually the price of the app+subscription to use the service seeing your using someone elses server for all the work.
also just curious... This is a new app.. And you are really defending the price of it... Ummm by any chance are you the dev of OfferEye or work for who made OfferEye??
Dev of a software company? HA! Never.. I hate programming.. I know it's hard work, and I'd never want to do it.
However, I am defending the "little guys" (anyone not being Apple, Microsoft or Google.. and even HP) when they take time to make a quality app. It takes so much work for 1-5 people to make an app, when you have probably hundreds of developers working for companies for Google and Microsoft.. They make OS's, sell them to users and OEMs, and make a ton of money off of that. They then have enough in their back pocket to make "free" apps. They also have strong big partnerships with hardware companies, that allows them to scratch each others' backs and get exclusive deals.
I can agree with you in saying that an app similar to Goggles should not cost $10, but I'd happily pay $5 for something like it. $2 is cheaping out, is my only point. I have paid $10 for Golf Pin finder, and I love the app. I'd also pay $10 for a good Office Suite for the phone.
People forget that sometimes almost as work goes into creating Smartphone apps as what takes to write programs for computers that sometimes cost $200 or more. MS Office is an example. I'm sure people aren't going to pay $200 for a mobile office suite, but what's the magic number? Certainly not $2! Give me a break (not directing this at you, yoshiaka).
actually alot of the apps are made by a single dev or a small group. The only apps that I have heard of needing a lot of devs is Operating Systems and major apps like Flash, microsux office, Corel etc... Most smartphone apps are a one person job or a couple people... Unless it's a 3D game...
there's more work and effort and people involved in 3D gaming yet the price is still cheaper then OfferEye. Even the independently made PDK apps seem to run less. 5.00 for an app like OfferEye seems to look like a nice spot. They can sell more copies that way and make around the same amount if it is 10.00 (oh I mean 9.99). They would just do business in quanity at 5.00.... And lets face it the more people that buy it the more it gets word of mouth advertising and that's the best advertising... Then they will make more in the long haul in quanity..
I went to school for awhile for commercial art/design/marketing.. Wish I would of finished and not be doing my blue collar labor work.
I'm glad AppBookShop has a guide to dating after divorce since their book yesterday taught me how to realize my spouse was crazy. They provide such a wonderful service. we should all buy some crappy books to support them.
/end sarcasm
Thanks for enriching the discussion about our app (OfferEye). I am a designer at Cora Apps (coraapps.com/offereye), the company that developed OfferEye. First let me say that our app is not a competitor of Google Goggles, is different. We're studying the possibility of reducing the price, but we have fairly high costs, not only with production but with the infrastructure to make the app work. We're releasing an update today (1.0.2). Thanks :)
