With the weekend’s webOS 1.3.1 update came a whole slew of apps updated to match. Several new apps, including the much-awaited Facebook app, were included in the app drop, which was more reminiscent of carpet bombing than a precision strike. Yeah, there are that many updates. Since the 1.3.1 update I can't install any new apps. I get the "out of memory" error every time. I've deleted most of the apps on my Pre to see if it would make room for the Facebook app, but no luck. I tried reinstalling one of the apps from the App store that I had just deleted and apparently there's no room for that app either.
1.3.1 gimped my phone. No apps for me, I guess.
I'm also getting this error... I sat through the painful process of tech support from Palm... The thing that fixed it was to to a "Partial Erase." I'm not entirely sure that was the only way to fix it, but it worked and now I can get apps.
I asked the tech support guy to elevate the issue to the programming team, so they can fix the issue in the next patch... But I won't hold my breath...
I had the same problem, and tech support led me to the same solution- Partial erase. Everything is working fine now, little annoying that I had to reset settings and reinstall apps, but at least everything is working smooth now.
I also did a partial erase, but I suspect the problem was pre 1.3.1., and may have been because of patches, themes! The catalog was taking forever to do updates and downloads before the update. After the partial erase, works like a charm.
Thats weird I was getting out of memory before the update and was able to add three more apps. I do hope they remove the cap soon though
Holy crap I thought it was just me. I tried to install the facebook application but keep getting out of memory. Deleted all my apps with no success so I had to use webOS doctor and then update again.
Same here, Can't download anything from the app catalog. Deleted all my apps and still getting the memory full screen.
** UPDATE** 1:57pm HST ** Had to WEBOS DR my phone. One of the things that I noticed was the app size, as we all know there is a 256 MB partition for apps, well once I upgraded to 1.3.1 all the apps in the catalog were 2-5 MB, whereas now i downgraded to 1.2.1 again and they are a mere 256K. So you may have to WEBOS DR. your phone to get it to work right.
cannot load any of these apps, not even update the ones I have already downloaded. I'm getting the error message of 'app memory is full' even after deleting several apps.
Yep. Same problem I'm having. I really don't want to WebOSDoctor it. Anyone know what's going on here?
Many are not updates. They just reposted the version that was already there.
Thank you for the fun Derek. I wish I had the smile ammo you're shooting...
I am also getting the full message for most app downloads. I got 1 or 2 to dpwnload but that's it. Its bad because I only have say 15 apps total downloaded. What gives? Is everyone getting this?
How many apps do people hitting the limit have? I've got 30. Just want to know when I can expect this problem.
I had 64 installed before i got this message the first time.
well personally since the update I haven't had any problems! still using terminal and mvapp.. I prob have 100+ apps on my phone and not gettin the not enough memory msg! Did you all remove ALL patches BEFORE updating? If not that prob was your problem
No problems here, word whirl finally updated to readjust their word catalog!
FB... lame, but works for me as I'm more a fan of twitter (and such the status updates only on FB).
Nice to see more apps...but where are the real additions? Meaningful apps...GPS fully functioning. Voice recorder, Videorecorder, Calendar fully functioning incl. invitations and what ever comes to a working mind.
Good that is takes on speed and quantity. Now bring on the quality...
The app catalog is actually working better for me since v1.3.1. It no longer takes 5 mins for it to begin downloading.
I ran the EPR prior to updating then reinstalled 'em after. Though I can't get my camera sound back. Not that I want it, but it feels like my pre is imperfect.
>>> but it feels like my pre is imperfect
go to preware and download mvapp inside of terminal service
"The New York Times" app is now viewable in landscape.
Doesn't for me.
No NYT app landscape here, either. ;-(
the themes arent working for me. anyone having this problem?
Is there any way to find out if the apps you have installed on your Pre have updates available WITHOUT having to search each one out individually? My iPod Touch has a specific category for "Updates" where I can go see all the apps that have updates available. Is there an equivalent for the Pre App Store?
Thanks.
"Is there any way to find out if the apps you have installed on your Pre have updates available WITHOUT having to search each one out individually?"
Open the App Catalog on your phone. At the bottom right you'll see a shopping bag, press it, and your downloaded apps will appear. If an update is available, there will be a small down arrow in the app's icon. Press the app to download the update.
also in your updates section in your launcher will show you all apps that can be updated and you can hit "update all" and it'll do it for you in no time
Or just go to Updates in your launcher. It's for both WebOS updates and App updates.
don't think the themes have been updated... Same thing happened when the 1.2 update 1st came out
THANKS
try the preupdater
DDT1345 you can go to the updates like you do the system update and itll show all individual apps update there too...same as iPod Touch...
Thanks to everyone who responded, I appreciate it. So there are 2 ways to easily find updates to your installed apps:
1. In app catalog, tap Shopping Bag (similar to iPod)
2. In app launcher, tap the Updates app
I guess my familiarity with the iPod was my blockage. Thanks again to all who responded.
for app updates just go to the "Updates" section. Your apps as well as webOS updates will be displayed.

File coaster won't load completely since the update
my filecoaster hasn't worked in a while! Thinking about deleting it! Preware is so much better! Also the virtualkeyboard has gone missing since the update! I removed it before install but now it is gone!
i did the update late last night and got the new Facebook apps, yeah i was very excited about the app, until i opened it. The app kinda sucks, but the update was well needed. let see if they completely change the facebook app.
does anyone need it?

OK, I guess it's time for me to write off WebOS. 5 months since the phone was released, and not one significant business class app is available, and not one significant update to the calendar or tasks app. It appears the market has decided this is an entertainment device, and business users don't matter. I need business apps, Palm and it's partners appear to have abandoned me, and I'll start looking elsewhere.
Aside from that, it is absolute nonsense that Palm is wasting time updating the photo app when they still haven't fixed the app install limit. Pre owners shouldn't have to resort to unofficial patches to download officiallly supported apps. Fixing this should have been priority number 1 for this update. It appears the new Palm management has it's head as far up it's nether reaches as the old Palm management team did.
