New in the App Catalog for 16 March 2010 27
While some days may be light days, yesterday certainly was not one of them. Twenty new apps and dozens of updates found their way into the App Catalog, and the new stuff ranges from the absurdly funny (Anchorman Soundboard) to the impressively fun (Super KO Boxing! 2) to the uniquely useful (WakeTube and ZumoDrive). Of course, there’s a smattering of stuff that people will find marginally useful (local bus tracking, specific test prep, quotes, public domain books, etc), but all-in-all this was a good app drop. Even the updated apps contain good stuff, with much-needed updates to popular apps like Scoop, Tweed, and Engadget. Check it all out - after the break, of course.

I'm hoping Dish Network comes out with an app for my DVR
I hope someday we get digital compass in palm pre -2 and turn by turn directions from google, meanwhile I am happy with these apps
I just want a wifi network analyzer! (Something that will show all the access points, their frequencies and names, with a live-updating graph/chart of signal strengths)
dude where are my LDS scriptures, all other platforms have them, we had them early on and then they were taken off, I will take the early versions over no version. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am i the only only one seeing Zumodrive also in the app catalog? cause i don't see it in the list nor for yesterday or for today...but it's in the catalog and i think it's a pretty useful thing it finally came!
ZumoDrive shows up for me. Very useful app. I downloaded it, but I can't get any of the music I uploaded to it to play on my Pre. I just get the spinning circle forever.
Zumo seems to have a ton of potential and many folks speak glowingly of it. I think I need to study the manual and FAQ however, because there are some quirks that are not intuitive to me.
For example, on the spinning circle for music: I got that as well when I tried to drill down to the music file directly from the parent directory. However, when I hit the music tab, the files played. Why should that be?
I also transferred a couple of video files for tests (WMA and mp4 I believe) and neither showed up.
Also not clear to me whether the files need to reside on the HDD of the computer with the Zumo client or whether I can directly fetch from a NAS.
But I'm definitely going to explore this option. it could be incredible.
No, it's there. It just isn't showing up in the PC App Gallery for whatever reason. :-\
zumodrive is in thhe intro paragraph. Prominent and spoken highly of.
it's there now, after i wrote about in my comment (and told the writer), but it wasn't before. anyhow, good to have it in the app catalog, that's most important!
Yes, I know. I wrote it.
I wish Palm would open the App Catalog for free apps. Seeing this articles with new apps every day and the big '0' in my App Catalog makes me sad... :-
I would just like to say that Waketube is the bomb diggity. I wanted to see whats up so i typed in "Pee Wees Playhouse" in the search and let it go not knowing what to expend. I woke up to a full HD version of like episode 1. I was so pumped.
btw those who are wining about no Hulu. WHo needs hulu when we are going to be able to use ATDHE.NET
would anyone who has flash please confirm that ATDHE.NET works with flash.. Please let me know. Im dying to know. thats my fav sports/ppv site. All free too.
Why hello there TWEED for $0.99 :) Been waiting for you for over a week!!
We need a Sugarsync App!!
I received this email from Sugarsync when I asked them about an App for webOS.
We are not currently actively working on that platform. We are watching the traction of the new Palm devices and will make a move into the platform based on how many users are attracted to it. Having our current customers express interest directly to us definitely help the cause.
In the mean time, you can still access all your files and photos on the go using your Palm OS device by simply pointing its browser to m.sugarsync.com (note that the address starts with "m" and not with "w")
Because of this response, I'm thinking of switching to Zumodrive. The only problem is that I have "earned" 5GB of free storage on Sugarsync from referrals and now I'll only have 2GB free with Zumodrive.
More Sugarsync/webOS users need to contact Sugarsync and request a webOS app!
Tweed for $.99 is my first App purchase after 7 months of owning a Pre. I had been using the free one and it had some issues with WebOS1.4. When they dropped the price to $.99 I was finally persuaded to buy an app.
You must be related to the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man In The World - "I may not buy any apps in a month, but when I do, it will be 99 cents. Stay stingy, my friend."
Eh, nah, just find very little compelling in the App Store and $5 for something not compelling is just a waste of cash. I actually use Tweed.
Honestly, I am in contract with sprint only because of my desire for the Palm Pre, not only has my carrier been less than acceptable but I am now starting to have serious doubts about my hardware choice as well. Dont get me wrong its not like I have I-phony envy, anyone who has any self respect for themselves would never purchase a product with so many restrictions and control issues. I do however, have Android envy, certainly WebOS is the more polished OS at the moment, but Google will only continue to improve on its OS, and they are now selling 60,000 units a day, in the end only cash flow can support Innovation, something Palm sorely lacks. My belief in Palm is starting to rapidly decline. They make to many mistakes, First they partner with Sprint and then they botch the most important aspect of success, Marketing, those original Ads were worse than terrible, the developer support is nowhere to be seen, I have less than 2000 apps (pathetic) while Android continues to grow at 3000 per week, I dont even have a true fantasy football app! If you can be honest with yourself the Hardware should not be mentioned in the same breath with the Nexus One and the Iphone, it hurts but its true. I love Palm and really threw my support behind them, only to start feeling like I backed the wrong horse, hope I'm wrong but I wont be drinking anymore Rubenstein Kool Aid till I see some real headway in app development and TRUE contending hardware. Still cant believe your about to botch one of the truly innovative phone concepts to hit the market.
I lost faith when they released the Palm Pre Plus, basically screwing over all Sprint customers who had a 2 year contract already signed and publicly admitting the last 6 months on Sprint had been a glorified beta test.
Then the hardware issues continue to pile on. Sprint is apparently catching on and is increasingly denying warranty and insurance claims (unless you pay their deductible), while AT&T and Verizon seem to be backing away from Palm like some sort of leper-phone.
It's very sad. I was so excited about having this phone when I first got it. It was my first smartphone, and I wouldn't shut up about it being much better than the iPhone and being much more dynamic than the Droid. However, now I can't help but recommend Droid because I know of all the software AND hardware flaws this phone has. Your normal user can barely download apps correctly (just see any review in the catalog), and you expect them to fix battery/USB cover/Power switch problems or pay Sprint MORE money?
The memory problem is the worst, though. I'm lucky if I can open 5 mid-range apps at a time. God forbid if I try to read an email while playing a 3D game.
Luckily for Palm, I have another 1.5 years left on my contract. If it isn't fixed by then, you can kiss my ass good-bye forever, Palm.
Actually... you might have a 2-yr contract with Sprint, but they give you "new customer pricing" every year!!!
So it's not all bad now, is it??
A Pre2 is definitely in *my* near future.
"Otto Von Bismarck."
Just the other day i was thinking, "Man i wonder if Otto Von Bismarck had some words of wisdom that applied to this situation."
Well, here's one that might come in handy in the forums:
Nope. Wasn't applicable.
This Warren Buffet Quote was though, "Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks."
FYI: There are submissions to the App Catalog that are clearly cut-n-paste. (i.e., PMConcepts from Upward Mobility) that include product descriptions that are not even being proofread. I assume they get carte blanche if they pay the fee.
"...PMConcepts software for the iPhone..."
Maybe Palm doesn't care about their branding as much as some of us do.
Hi Tom - Palm did catch that in our submission and correct it.
Not sure how it got pushed out publicly, but they are making improvements to their review process. It's by far the most thorough of any of the other app stores from what I've seen.
This is a great line of apps, I
