i wish that there would be some really good quality apps.. im not gonna pay for quotes.. This is just spam! where's the cool apps that are on the iphone.. a remote for my tv.. pocket god.. etc!

When the pdk comes out we should start seeing some higher quality apps.

Tell me about it...how about an app that can sync with quicken desktop...please???

I think if Palm removed all of Brighthouse spam from the app catalog we would be down to 300 apps lol

so true! i was thinking between them and djit.. we would have nothing..

If you want to know exactly how many of their apps are in existence within the catalog, open up the App Catalog and start typing Brighthouse. Then repeat but by typing Dijit instead. Now you can see how many apps they really have.

By the way, the numbers are:
  Brighthouse:  140
  Dijit:               81
  Total:             221

1500-221.. 1279.. so thats what our real app count is.. btw thanks for the info!

But those 140 do not include any of their QUOTES apps. Somehow those do not come up if you search for Brighthouse.

Yeah, it's probably closer to 20-30% of apps being shovelware. Perhaps the same can be said of all mobile stores.

Someone should write an app that combines a ton of quotes (everything Brighthouse labs has done and whatever they might do next) and put that in the app catalog for FREE! Probably wouldn't be too crazy hard to write an app like that.

I wonder if anyone will ever admit to being a/the developer for Brighthouse, in public.

...would probably be "run outta town", by an angry mob wielding pitchforks and torches. ;-)

I would hold a pitchfork and drive a tractor in there to get them out!

I think spam will always be a fixture in the world that we have to live with.In this age of social networking,Everybody is fair game. The world is our oyster. With that said,Palm Pre is just the beginning. The planet will be overflowed with mobile devices,And we have the best platform ever.Don't hate any developers. We need more.Appreciation is well deserved.Cheers!

This guy isn't one of us! He works for Brighthouse!!!

Interestingly enough, Corey... I don't ever receive SPAM of any sort, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

I use AdBlock Plus and Flashblock in Firefox!
I use MythTV to automatically cut out commercials for me.
I use the /etc/hosts trick on webOS to cut out ads.
I use two Gmail accounts [my main one which impressively has received ONLY ONE spam message in my entire life, thanks to diverting the spammers to my second, decoy email].
Likewise, I do not distribute my real phone number or address to companies that I don't want distributing it to other 3rd party companies.
And I sure don't use the MyFace so that strangers, employers, and detectives can know me personally.

If you're not SPAMMING me with my buddy's mouth, I'm not gonna hear it. I'm sorry to tell all you marketeers this... but nothing will work on me besides that. I'm invincible to mind tricks, for I am Jedi!

May the Force be with all of you!!!
.... except Brighthouse Labs and this Corey feller. :P

cough laugh pukeloser.fun with comments

huh?

common sense will work also

Common sense will work.... for what also?

The only person lacking common sense is someone who believes that "spam is the future, the be-all AND the end-all".

Are you high, man? Do you think being numb to ubiquitous corporate wishes is being sensitive or not? Being numb and not even being aware of how much spam is shoved down your throat on a daily basis means _precisely_ that you're NOT sensitive...

THEREFORE, you have no common sense. Sensible folks avoid spam as often as humanly possible, don't they?

Apparently enough people are buying these apps, otherwise it would not be worth for them to put them in the app catalog.
Same goes for all spam, as long as people keep a clickin', they keep a sendin'...

All what do I wish to see from Palm Pre the edite docs and
video, am not big on the game apps at all.
The apps cataloge it has what do I want in away, just am
waiting for the docs editting, and the video if anyone shows
up.
Took the IPHONE three years to get MMS and other good thing
I guess we will do the same if nothing happen in this month.
Other in that I love my PRE it is working good for me.

i love my pre to.. my wife jokes and tells me i should take it out on dates.. but that being said.. i just want some good apps.. here lately, the homebrew stuff seems to be the best out.. and most of it is in beta.. I wish I had the tech savy to go through and write these programs.. If I did I would just do it.. maybe I should look into that..

thanks!

Thank you for this great tip on how to go to school on WEBOS!
Knowledge is power.

I wonder If it's possible for the owners or users of the phones to vote for a developer to be banned from making apps for a platform. * cough cough "BRIGHTHOUSE" * they are sinking thw boat w/ useless apps. 'junk apps'

It might be a few crazy people who buy brighthouse apps.. I wouldn't I'll just search for what I need..google search is your friend and it's free.

If you're a chemist or taking a chemistry class, I can recommend the periodic table app highly. It's a very nice implementation, and the developer is very responsive to suggested improvements.

All the people banking on the PDK for killer apps, forget it. It won't allow you to do anything new unless Palm opens up some more APIs. At this rate all the PDK will provide is really fast brighthouse labs apps ;)
The SDK will more than suffice for apps (not games) if Palm would add some new APIs from time to time....

If Apple counts all the garbage apps into their count too, why can't we? They certainly have more, I bet 40%. Plus, if you add in the Preware apps we're probably closer to 2000.

Quit complaining about djjit and BH, if you had the ability to write crap like them you would too to try and make a quick buck. They are like Starbucks - I don't drink coffee, but they're everywhere. Other morons get sucked into the product so they will continue to be on every corner.

Every time I visit the app catalog update posts here it's the same comments - complaining about the spam, the update, or the lack of quality apps. Quit crying and write the apps yourself.

sure.. i can do that.. but wait... i bought my phone for functionality.. and beens how im not a developer, and i rely on others to be developers, i therefore want better apps, to get my money you will have to develop what i want, thats why these comments continue.. because most of these huge developers are not making what we want.. the occasional hot girl app, or book app or quote is cool.. but why do i care i can get it for free elsewhere.. so now i will turn your own challange on you.. if you dont want us to complain.. then you develop what we want.. then i will pay you..

this by no means, says that i am angry with the developers are trying to provide quality.. i love you guys/gals! I am just tired of crap for a quick buck!

I need a music player to play WMA and other formats beyond the few the Pre can play. Is there such a player? I haven't found any.

Great, 4 more shit apps from Brighthouse Labs. So, 1500 total apps in the catalog and only about 100 good ones. Thanks Brighthouse for more shit apps.

100? my number is maybe half of that probably 20 of them are from gameloft. Not that i have time for those games.

quote apps are ridiculous, and we get so many of them. Why do people need these things? To sound witty? Anyone can quote someone else, it doesn't make you sharp or intelligent. Its not productive. We're getting games and quotes as if its what we need. Do you really need gaming on your phone...? You have data, look for quotes online... its free!

Translators, Stocks, currency converters, patches, mobile wifi, indexes/charts/tables as study guides or for professionals, and so on. Those are on the line of things we deserve. Like a document editing program that I don't have to connect online for. Something my WM phone from 4 years had.

Then again, I'm no developer. Hard work is always appreciated.
