New in the App Catalog for 19 February 2010 14

by Derek Kessler Sat, 20 Feb 2010 10:51 am EST

App Catalog As we mentioned last night, Gameloft has so graciously decided to ship free demo versions of their games to the App Catalog. Or at least some of them, with Assassin’s Creed and Gangstar demos joining the previously-released Asphalt 5 demo. And you know what? We like free demos, as we imagine everybody else does. In fact, because they’re limited gameplay, we’re sure Gameloft likes them too, because they’re bound to drive sales. Of course, Gameloft’s not the only game in the App Catalog town - there dozens of developers releasing new and updated apps every day, and we’ve got them all listed for you. Where? There are actually some decent ones for today. The 3D demos are great of course, but the web2PDF, Tetroku, and XMBC remote look pretty good as well.

I want Driver really bad from Gameloft was my fav back in the ps1 days. Also GT Racing: Motor Academy would be sweet thanks Gameloft

Totally =) That was one of my favorite PS1 games as well. Idk but you or any others...but after playing Assissins Creed (it being a stealth type game), I'm hoping we see some iteration of Metal Gear Solid on our Pres!

I wonder what's the hold up over at EA Headquarters? The only ported a handful of games and then stopped while GL and Laminar have been (awesomely) cranking them out consistently.

I'm not too worried as GL has *plenty* of titles to keep us going for some time. I'm just reaching the end of A5 and getting near Assasins so will be looking to tackle Gangstar next. :)

if you ever thought to yourself, "I wish I could minimize apps," clearcard is the perfect solution. Simple but great idea. It just takes your wallpaper and makes it an app. If you have multiple chats and webpages open and are not currently using the phone you can just activate clearcard and "clears your desktop" so to speak. It hides your clutter and gives you the elegant look of your wallpaper. Notifications still come in just fine. Once you wanna use your phone swipe up and your good to go! It's 99 cents but is a really great buy. I don't know the developer or anything I just checked out the app catalog, saw it, and realized that this is what I've wanted for my pre and it works like a charm.

here is a link to the youtube video that comes with the free version:

this app does not make your other apps transparent! This misunderstanding is why it has received poor reviews from so many people. The developer gives you exactly what he says if you read his description. Others just assumed what it does based on the title of the app.

i do wish i could minimize apps. but im waiting for the ability to swipe down and send an app icon to the notification bar.
anyway, does anybody know what upgrades have been made to sims or nfs?

is that an update for webos 1.4?

That is not an update - it's a wish. An awesome wish, by the way.

That's actually a pretty good idea.

It is also very easy to implement, though mostly it is unnecessary, which is why you don't see it.

You can 'card' an application, which has that same effect, and then bring it back to the front. Sometimes it makes sense to really minimize and have just an icon in the bottom bar, but it is a pretty rare need, in my opinion. Usually background applications (such as email) will show an icon when the user is needed to attend to some event, but otherwise won't clutter up the screen.

True, but by having the icon in the notification bar (or my preference would be at the top of the screen so you aren't losing any screen real estate) you go from:
-> minimise current app, swipe between cards, tap app card
to:
-> tap on icon, tap to confirm.
Makes sense to me.

wow, Web2PDF sounds promising. A useful app, indeed. And demos for the 3D games? Finally. I'm not big on games being on the phone that are more complex than tetris, but demos are better at convincing.

www.PDFmyURL.com does it for free. :)

Hi all,

The Conmigo and Conmigo Trial updates (v1.2.0) takes us a step closer to our goal of a "set it and forget it" fitness system. With this update, you get both text and audio (i.e. spoken) feedback during events so that you don't have to look at your screen as often. If you use your Pre/Pixi while running, biking or walking (especially with headphones), you can receive prompts when your event starts, ends, when you reach the mid point and when you change positions (e.g. move into first place or drop into 5th position).

There are also alerts for tracking and progress errors and more. Conmigo now even attempts to auto resolve tracking errors (so if you get the alert, you can usually wait a few seconds to receive a follow-up alert stating that normal tracking has resumed. Same goes for progress reporting.

We hope you give it a try if you walk, run or bike and like the idea of doing so with others who share your interest and fitness level.
