You know you're gonna have to just say: "New apps here" eventually? ;)
Or more junk to sift through :P
Somebody needs to stop Dijit.
Someone must like Dijit since they keep producing and people do buy their products. Thank goodness for Patches that block vendors - http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/220335-patch-hide-app-vendors...
Sorli...
Was just thinking I have a reason to get that app that blocks specified developers now.
Huge mistake! I installed the aforementioned patch to "hide" certain vendors and it would not install properly (sat there with the twirling figure for a very long time). I had to close PreWare altogether and following a system re-boot, the patch shows installed but does not work at all, the option does not display in the app catalog, and the app will not allow itself to be removed, I get a variety of errors in the IPKG Log.
I suggest you live with the various vendors, much better than what I face at this time.
I think you can use webos quick install to install the patch again.
Rather than use it to install it again, I used it to delete it. Though it through up a lot of errors, it does seem to be gone now. Will wait for a better or improved patch to accomplish this.
Thank you Sorli for the info.
This evening my app catalog will be free of "Brighthouse Labs" and "dijit" shit :)
or just tell him jonathan peters is old news and to make one on tiesto
dijit must not know that you can get almost any pic you want online. Just find what you want, hold down the orange button and press on the pic. You'll get a menu and you can save it from there. Sorry dijit but what's the sense in paying for something we can get for free.

ok I just posted a comment and now it's gone
Dijit must not know that all you have to do is hold the orange button down and press on a pic you want to get a menu where you can save it. Why pay for something we can get for free.
Dijit knows that.
But Dijit also knows that there are plenty of idiots who will buy it too. And if Dijit is smart he'll just be releasing girly picture ones non stop. Because I've noticed most of his apps barely have any ratings (meaning they're not really downloaded much) except for his girly wallpapers.
Palm REALLY REALLY needs to implement the 2 apps per month per publisher until it starts costing the publisher money to submit their apps.
Oh boy, more crapware! At this rate Palm will have 100,000 wallpaper apps by the end of the year. Does anyone actually buy this garbage? Will there ever be any real productivity apps? Will the Pre survive this avalance of worthless drivel?
Damn right. This sucks balls!
"Will the Pre survive this avalance of worthless drivel?"
If people buy it, yes. Palm still gets 30 cents for every useless, shitty Dijit app sold.
Palm welcomes app spam (that sells).
"The quantity of apps remains low on the Palm store relative to iPhone and Android, but Rubinstein suggested it was a quality not quantity game." - CES 2010.
palm just needs to limit the number of apps of one type that a single person sends in. That's all.
Ugh when is Dijit going to get busted for copyright infringement?! There is NO way he/she/it has the license to distribute all those images.
This suggests that Palm isn't checking to be sure that software in the catalog is properly licensed.
By taking a cut of Dijit's fees they're complicit in the crime of copyright infringement. That'd be a very bad headline for them.
Nope. All of his images are public domain and can be gotten off of Google.
Unless you are looking for something in particular, just get the free "Backgrounds" app. A lot of the same stuff is there.

WhenTF is "Speed Limit" app going to be updated!? The Dev said that he sent Palm an update review about 1 week and half ago. BS!! I bought a stupid app for nothing...
you need to chill man. The turn around time for a new update or app is pretty long nowadays. Its been 2-3 weeks for an update and that was about a month ago. Its looks like the backlog is more like 4-5 weeks. Patience grass hoper
No offense confucius , but I don't need to chill. Bugs should be tested before making it to the APP catalog. (I undersand yes there will be bugs, but one this obvious should have not.) However the update came out today...go figure.
Dijit: real apps or gtfo
excitement not guaranteed
That just sums it up!!
At this rate we will have as many useless apps as the iPhone/iPod :)
Everyone does realize that Palm has a million dollar reward package for apps downloaded the most during February and March, right?
This means that there will likely be a flood of apps in the beginning of February.
Please be patient.
And Derek/Dieter, please note this in your App Catalog posts. :)
Then I guess Electronic Arts is going to get a million dollars.
I don't know how Palm negotiated this. It would really surprise me if a big publishing house like that would be eligible since they've had such early access to the plugin development kits and such. This could really be classified as an unfair edge.
At the same time, I wouldn't count out the other guys. For one thing, EA is only releasing paid apps and there is a whole class of rewards for free apps. Let's see what happens! Be ready to pull out your wallets to support the developers. :)
First of all, it's not a million dollars for first prize. The paid app with the most downloads wins $100,000. And the free app with the most downloads gets $100,000.
Second, apps that use the PDK are disqualified, so that would eliminate all the new 3D games that have been released.
Do the apps we have already automatically get updated or do we have to manually upgrade them?
Go to UPDATES on your phone!
@redsoxnation
Updating all your apps takes 3 taps.
1. Tap the "Updates" app
2. Tap "Show Updates" button
3. Tap "Install Updates" and your done.

Can someone please make an app that automatically gives dijit apps poor reviews? Maybe display a checklist of apps, and a button to give a poor review/rating?
Good simple ARES app, I think.
There is a patch that will allow you to block their apps from your view of the app catalog.
Maybe someone should require more definition between "App" and "Bookmark".
I think I'll try that blocking patch...
The app catalog is starting to become a huge blurrrrrrrr....You just want to scream at the top of your lungs "ENOUGH ALREADY!!" How many of us wait until 10:00 each night to click on the App Catalog button knowing that there will be slew of new apps? I admit....I'm one of those people. It's like a huge letdown everytime. February cannot get here soon enough.....
Hey Everybody,
I was wondering type of apps everyone would most need or enjoy having. I have noticed the same in the catalog and also browsed iPhone apps, and I believe that the apps for iPhone is what is causing the bad apps for Palm. So many people have downloaded the steam app and the beer app, that developers looking to be recognized for their efforts have to resort to this kind of stuff. What we need is real good ideas from the user community if you do not want more junk. I see a lot of reviews where comments are made but not many helpful suggestions. So I would like to ask, if you could have the best type of app or the most useful app, what would it be like?
All I care about at this point is having the ability to edit word and excel files natively (i.e., not google docs.) I like DtG and have used them exclusively in the past, but right now I'll pay $20+ to the first app in the catalog that will get the job done. (period)
I've just got to say that if Palm dosent come out with real apps soon I will be leaving them behind and waving goodbye with an Iphone in my hand. Every time I meet someone new with an iphone I'm convinced more and more that the palm pre dosent compare at all. My brothers and I have all got pre's and our wives too.... Palm people and app makers please change our minds before its too late!!
The "only" thing that got updated with Glyder is the PRICE. It went from 2.99 to 4.99..... Pathetic!
Ok - Is there any place to check what the latest versions are? Apparently this is the second "Glyder" update, and I'm still using 1.0.0 with no update from the update app or from the app-store installed apps-view... What version is it in? and why would I not be seeing the update?
These may be updates for a future version of WebOS that hasn't come down to you yet. It shows up as updated in the catalog, but you are still seeing the version that works on your phone.
Running 1.3.5.1 on Sprint, fully updated OS.
Thinking that with the /var switch and all the early homebrew stuff i'll doctor my phone this weekend and stay away from themes (significant speed boost after removing one a while back)
Wish there was a changelog and full updated versions checklist online though...
Note the word future. Some developers in the developer program get access to future releases (like 1.4 that you and I won't get until next month) so that their app won't break and then not be available immediately when the update comes down.
Changelogs are up to the developer and will be on their website if they have one.
Following the "Palm pre" buy link from Glu's own website shows 1.0.0 as the current versions still. I think i've seen it listed as "updated" 2x now from precentral. Where do you get your 'updated' info from?
(link from glu's site)
http://developer.palm.com/webChannel/index.php?packageid=com.glu.app.gly...
I see it now in a post above - up from $2.99 to $4.99... Early adopters rejoice :)
keep up the good work, Derek.I appreciate the summary report.
If someone were doing this in the forum, there would be flames flyin'!
And, FWIW, still no DtG means my Pre is still an incredibly talented idiot.
It's ok. I love her anyway. I see her for her potential.
Most of you all are a bunch of whining cry babies. If anyone should be cut off are the App Cry Babies.
I was asking mainly because I am also a developer, and the apps recently published are from big name development firms. They are inevitably going to publish apps at a price in order make the most profit. If all of us independent developers can beat them to it with an app that is competitive to theirs, we can keep the price lower and still offer great apps. Games are in a class of their own, because most really good games are developed already and just ported over to different platforms, such as what we are currently seeing in the Palm app catalog. This is great if you want to pay $5 or $10 for a polished established game. But what type of apps would you really like to see that independent developers can actually develop? To write and application that can edit Word and Excel files would take a substantial amount of time and most likely would require a company or group effort. What is the most sought after app for us Palm owners? I was hoping we wouldn't follow in the footsteps of the competitors and have a bunch of plastice wrap bubble popping apps as well, however, if that what is selling then that is what the developer community will inevitably develop. I have tried to provide some apps with real value, and some entertaining also. What else would you like to do on your Palm that you cannot do right now?
That's cool. You asked, so I threw my 2 cents out there. Hope you don't mind.
You might want to start a thread in the forums. You'll probably get more responses that way. There are similar threads there as well, so you could just pick over those for some ideas.
Best of Luck!
