New in the App Catalog for 21 March 2010 12

App Catalog Ah, weekend app drops. We could get used to this. Even if they are light in nature, it’s still more apps. And more apps are always a good thing. While the app drop from this weekend brought plenty of updates to popular apps, we also had some new apps in there as well. Among those new apps? The first two eBay apps for webOS, and both allow you to search for auctions and remotely place bids while on the go. Cool stuff, eh? eBay’s not the only new stuff there, so head on past the break to check out the standard listing of what’s new.

New apps:

  • AuctionMate, Free, by Preciouscoders: Get instant access to the items in your eBay account with ease. Search for auctions, add them to your watchlist, and place bids or make puchases.
  • Funny Test, Free, by Team 5 Soft: Tricky questions to make you laugh. Or your friends laugh at you.
  • Pearl S. Buck Quotes, $1.99, by Brighthouse Labs: Read quotes from the American author (who spent most of her life in China) or The Good Earth.
  • Percy Bysshe Shelley Quotes, $1.99, by Brighthouse Labs: Get quotes from the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.
  • SaleZ Lite, Free, by zefanjas: Keep an eye on your eBay auctions and place bids on items directly from your phone.

Paid Apps in Canada would be nice,

Also so the Palm Pre+ is now going to be on 2 carriers in USA, Bell Canada has had the Pre for way too long, Where's Canada's Palm Pre+

Bring GSM UP here on all 4 Carriers, Bell, Telus, Rogers and Fido. This phone would be huge.

Mairboy, good for you for your optimism in these hard times. And welcome to the community!

Trust me, if Palm could get other carriers to take the Pre here in Canada, they would.

They just announced the GSM Pre for ATT. You will be able to buy one, and use it on Rogers. I've done it before with the Centro. And I just might with the Plus.

Why do we see so many Go To Tool apps and apps that have already been around for a while appearing under 'Today' You will also see an app that will 'manage' your ebay account. Wouldn't it be nice to have an app from ebay and not have to put in your details through a third party? Come on, it is getting so pointless opening the app cat just to see apps that have no real value. Paid apps in Canada and the UK on their way but we aren't going to see any apps that we can compare to any other platform. I'm not that fussed about getting paid apps if there will not be anything worth paying for. On a trip to London i took my GF's iPhone and had all the apps i needed, London Tube app, Highways app with traffic updates, i was able to look through train times and plan a journey and catch up on the news and after that i spoke to my Brother on Skype....... my Palm pre can't do any of that.

I agree!!!! These apps are really repetitive...its gettin bad. Only new apps I'm seeing are 3dgames from the major devs...still no good tv guide app. Nobodys paying attention to the "app idea box" app...its alot of great ideas in there. Everything is slooooowing down..lol including patches..use to be like 10 patches every week or biweekly

As a developer, I have to say that most of the app ideas in the app box have a ridiculously complex set of features and a suggested price of "free". Haven't seen much to pick from, at least from the more popular ideas. :(

Yeah, I'm not a dev but do know how to code and have thought about writing for webOS. While I haven't looked at app idea box, I've asked friends for things they'd like.

They inevitably want apps that are far too elaborate or require server-side support that a lone dev (or two) with few resources simply can't provide. Makes it hard on the little guy, which I would guess is the average dev who doesn't run a software house.

With no disrespect to all the fantastic PC.net devs, it would be nice of some of the "big guys" could find the time to step it up. Or if we could find a better way for new devs to get their initial investment covered somehow so they could focus on the work. There are some great ideas/examples out there and a platform that's extremely dev-friendly, imho.

Edit: And I don't think the suggested price of "free" needs to be adhered too. If an app is really fantastically done, I think word gets out and people are happy to pony up for the quality and continued updates.

"Why do we see so many Go To Tool apps and apps that have already been around for a while appearing under 'Today'"

Palm puts any updates in the same category as new apps. Why i don't know but you end up with 30 old apps and 5 new under "recent." Palm could just seperate out updates but they don't.

"it is getting so pointless opening the app cat just to see apps that have no real value."

agreed. i only check maybe twice a week because there's so much clutter and very little quality. I wish they'd separate old updates from new apps.

Alright, waaaay behind the ball on this one. But finally had a use for FlightView this weekend so I picked it up. Fantastic stuff. Pleasantly surprised when the alert that his flight would arrive early came in, then showed me the most recent flight plan update.

There are some things an app is just perfect for. Coordination stuff like this, for example, that turn my phone into a watch. A really, really smart watch.

Moar apps, plzkthx.

I love the web quick search app

I think palm should hire about 100 app devs and push out apps that are requested by the people that use app idea box!!!

ok i saw that app box. yeah lots of good suggestions. Most of which have also been brought up in forum app request threads. For some reason they aren't getting made. maybe they are too hard for some people or not cost effective but clearly those apps are what people want and expect from Palm or from most smartphones, not tip calculator's and random number generators, etc. So the at some point Palm may have to deliver that consumer experience or potential customers may go elsewhere.

That AuctionMate app is so simple but so amazingly useful! I found it here today and tried it out, where has this been my entire ebay filled lifetime!

Now if only had something similar for Amazon. It could have saved me hours when I was shopping for cheap paper lanterns, lol. But hey, what would a party be without paper lanterns!
