New in the App Catalog for 22 March 2010 14

by Derek Kessler Tue, 23 Mar 2010 7:49 am EDT

App Catalog Monday brought us all sorts of good news. There’s the upcoming but as-of-yet-not-dated launch of the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus on AT&T. There’s Mobile Hotspot headed to O2 and the Pre going to China. webOS 1.4.1 is on the way, so is the popular ShopSavvy, and the Pre Plus is kicking the Nexus One in the Androids in Laptop Magazine’s March Madness smartphone showdown. Compared to last week, this week has started off with plenty of good news. Ready for more? We’ve got it, and we call it apps. Sure, maybe this is an underwhelming app drop when held up against the other news of the day (or even previous app drops), but we’ll take whatever good news we can get right now. The list, you know where it is. If you don’t, I suggest you hit that “Read the rest of this entry” link and find out for yourself.

...good news to start the week is always a good thing =)

If you all have not heard, today Sprint will be either unveiling or announcing their flagship 4G/WiMax device. Everyone has their suspicion of it being the Supersonic (but) what if it were actually Palm's webOS powered C40 device?!? Goshhh that would catch everyone off guard ;)

I'm getting anxious lol.

Come on Palm...I believe that you can turn this around and make everyone eat their analystic statistics =p

ps: Flash Beta is said to be released in days =X

It will be the Supersonic. I don't think there is any doubt on that. The question is will they announce a 2nd 4G phone from Palm. I also think the Flash roll out (done right) would give a nice push. I can't wait to show my iPhone friend with his Masters app that I get the whole website, video and all.

My votes go towards the HTC Supersonic and the Motorola i1... but a new Palm device would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath...

Where did you see that the flash beta was coming out soon? link for proof please (and so i can see it for myself!)

It would really be nice if we start seeing true floods of apps when the catalog goes international by the end of the month. But maybe I'm just looking for hope that Palm isn't losing it with developers.

they just announced AT&T, they will not announce a new phone until AT&T get a chance to bring it out and sell some phones or else AT&T would just not spend any money

also derek you forgot to mention that the appstore should be out of beta soon in Canada and Europe

lots of things to look forward to this month. But I really wonder when they'll announce some new carrier in Canada would be nice. Need atleast 1 carrier up here with the Pre+ very soon.

with Flash isn't it possible to say that the Palm Pre (+) have access to over a million games?

with Flash isn't it possible to say that the Palm Pre (+) have access to over a million games?

Payed apps just in one country, free apps only in countries which official got the Palm Pre/Pixi, too many developers which still didn't find the 'publish world wide' checkbox... But at least we will never run out of 'quote' apps. :D

Paid apps here in the UK........can't wait. Not only will we still continue to see free apps that aren't of any real use but we will be able to pay for them too Needless to say i'm not excited about paid apps in the UK.

Even if Palm do release a new and better phone to house WebOS they need to get the apps sorted and very quick they need to do it. My Pre is starting to show signs of a phone that has been around for a while. The plastic housing is 'creaking' when its used and the slider is very very loose.

yeah your right, lets stick with crappy free apps- why would we want to encourage good developers with good apps and games to develop for the pre? Why would i want to pay for great apps like bad kitty? And the thought of having paid apps might encourage gameloft to release brilliant games like nova- that would be awful. Not to mention that having paying customers might make a lot of the quality european app developers that haven't touched the pre actually start developing useful uk based apps. After all who wants a dedicated tube app or a proper navigation satnav app? Yep your right- there's absolutely no reason to look forward to paid apps in the uk

I was at my local Sprint store this weekend and they said the Supersonic was coming. I asked if they knew of any new model for the Palm Pre, they said no.

...I'm just pointing out the obvious w/ my first comment that nobody expects a new Palm device announced however, doing so would equal "ching ching" and anticipation for Palm.

Remember Palm's first mistake was unveiling the Pre more than nine months before being launched? It was too long for them to keep up the anticipation and hype...especially w/o heavy advertising. Summer being a few months away - a 3-4 month time frame is perfect to give us a glimpse of something now. With that new 'webOS' commercial taking up the airwaves @ all hours of the day the marketing would ensure to entice people to webOS.

And contrary to what anyone else believes, if Palm release a 2nd gen device, people will still buy Pres and Pixis. Why? Well, if Palm markets the phone as a high end device (meaning $590s-$700) which I think it should (at first), people would get Pres/Pixis to experience webOS on a cheaper level. Only the hardcore enthusiast (such as myself) will fork over the cash for a grander device running the best OS on the planet...and I'm sure there's a giant army behind me willing to do the same =)

"...if you announce/leak it, they will come." - Go Palm!!!

Agreed! While I consider myself a Palm fan... I'm not a fanboy. If they come out with a good product (hardware), I will be the first in line to buy it.

The only way Palm can break this logjam is to come out with better hardware and come up creative way to "move" the current inventory. Even if that means giving it to schools for a tax write-off, or offering some sort of incentive package on new hardware for anyone in possession of the current models. If they did that, and would guarantee hassle free replacement of a faulty Palm device, I'd buy one right now.

The hardware issues are the biggest reason for damage to the brand. And while it may not be what most of us in this forum would prefer, there are TOO MANY choices for the casual consumer. It's unreasonable to expect them to invest a few thousand dollars (including the 2 year requirement) on iffy hardware.
