New in the App Catalog for 23 September 2010 23

App Catalog Okay, well, sometimes the App Catalog has only a few new apps and a few updates. Sometimes there’s a lot of new apps and a few updates. And sometimes there’s the opposite: a few new, lots of refreshed. What doesn’t happen all that often is we get a whole tanker-full of updates (120, to be exact) with precisely zero new apps. But happen it has. As you can imagine, 120 apps is a long list, even for the updated side of things, so you might want to click past the break to see it - we're sure not going to put such a long list out here for all to see (even if it is impressive).

sshhhh. if AppBookCrap finds this out, they will submit a couple of hundred of their "books" for you to write about.

let's keep this as our little secret.

120 apps being "updated" isn't impressive when a good number of those get "updated" every day or every 2-3 days so they can stay at the top on the new list. Yes I am pointing at you TileStorm guy and Back That Thing Up guy, you are as bad as AppBooks, Brighthouse, and the other spam guys.

Hopefully this means they will be approving apps quickly! I just submitted a new build of office basketball (paper toss like) with score saving... The waiting is the hardest part....

Hey Tacroy,
Can you make a Pixi version, too?

Hey matt, I'd love too. The only problem is I don't own one. Would you be willing to work with me on that? Basically could we trade contact info so I could send test files to you and have some real-time testing? I wouldn't want to release it and just HOPE it works!

Are you the dev of office basketball? If so, it kicks ass. Thanks for updating it. I like the simpler games. No stress just fun. Thanks again.

Is anyone surprised there aren't any new apps? I didn't think so.

yah I was wondering about that. And why do some cost money & they suck and lots of free ones rule. I don't get it...

do we think all these updates are to make things compatible with 2.0 SDK? Maybe sooner instead of later release?

or are we finally at enough apps (just shy of 4k) where now regular updates seem like a lot but still only 3% of apps?

2.0? I doubt it. Most would have little benefit from the stuff offered in 2.0.

I think that SOME of these updates are just to game the system, you get more attention when you update so in theory you could just upload a file, call it an update, and get on the list. Some developers have said they are doing that in order to get higher numbers on the palm app contest. This is NOT to say that the majority are by any means, but there are always a few bad ones.

*Thats also why I try to post in here what my updates are, so that way no one would think I am trying to abuse the system.

I agree tacroy. I see almost no comments on what the updates are so I am skeptical as to whether or not an update has taken place. Click on Service Bell and it still shows v1.0.0, which is what I already have. Doesn't sound like an update to me. Perhaps he just forgot to change the version # in the code...

Am I the only one with a problem just *getting* updates? I click the "Show Updates" button, but I just keep getting the "That action cannot be performed at this time" error message. I rebooted, but to no avail. Haven't installed a patch in at least a few days... :(

I'm having this problem as well.

Same here on a Sprint Pre. Had to use Preware to update.

on verizon 1.4.5 same problem, I can not update apps. I can go to preware, individually select app and update it that way, but unable to update through the official app catalog.

Me too, sprint Pre

The app catalog has been having problems lately. Totally inaccessable last night for me for a few hours and then all the review dates got messed up. So there must be some broader issues.

same here with Sprint. Hopefully they are IMPROVING it. Hint hint.

same here, can't update

Same since early this AM.

SHAPE Services needs to stop re-submitting the same garbage versions of IM+.....

Slow times...
