New in the App Catalog for 25 August 2010 8

App Catalog What have we here? More new apps? Great Scott, I do believe that is the case!

  • Virtual Horse Racing 3D is not a horse racing game as you might expect, though there certainly are 3D horse races involved. Instead, it takes you to the tracks where you play the role of spectator and place what you know to be winning bets.
  • Help I Crashed My Car is an all-in-one resource for those car accidents we always hope to avoid. The app tells you what you should do, who to call, what pictures to take (you have a phone with a camera if you’re using this app), and will even store the contact information for your insurance company and your favorite auto shop.

There are more new apps, plus a bucket or two full of updates, all waiting after the break.

New apps:

  • cellBall: Ask a Trekkie, $0.99, by cellHigh. The Magic 8 Ball for Trekkies... resistance is futile.
  • cellBall: Ask the MovieBuff, $0.99, by cellHigh. Movie buffs rejoice, there’s a Magic 8 Ball for you too, and frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.
  • cellBall: Ask the Pothead, $0.99, by cellHigh. Whoa, it’s, like, a Magic 8 Ball for potheads. Radical.
  • Help I Crashed My Car, Free, by Summit Mobile Solutions. Your one-stop shop for dealing with a car accident. Keep handing your preferred auto shop’s info, contacts for emergency services, your insurance companies, a guide on what to document with that handy camera phone, and more.
  • PM Agile Scrum Quick Reference, $1.25, by Sulaba. A concise set of agile project management process flow, scrum methodology, formulas and glossary for quick reference.
  • Sound Effects, Free, by patrick.f. Classic sound effects including the rim shot, a drum roll, roosters, crickets, Reveille, and more.
  • Thermal Pad, Free, by fabi.me. A simulated heat-sensitive surface that responds by how long you hold a finger against the screen.
  • Virtual Horse Racing 3D, $2.99, by Natenai Ariyatrakool. Head to the tracks for a 3D horse race and place your bets.

I wish there were a standardized way, for developers to provide and users to access, a change log.

How difficult is it for developers to update the App Catalog description with change notes each release? That's an honest question because I know I've seen a couple that actually do it.

Radical? Dude, potheads don't say radical. Skate kids say radical. Potheads say dude.

I dunno, man. Man seems to be the thing our potheads say, dude.

Actually, we say...

"What's up, Manbro Dawg?"

-_-

I need more coffee... I thought that second game was "Help I WASHED my car" before I took a second look at it.

I am glad to see at lease a few productive applications hit the app catalog. The Agile Scrum Project Management reference is a good start for project managers for a general project/program management approach. I would like to see more business focused applications on WebOS. Hopefully the PDK can be used for something besides games.

That's more likely to happen when hybrid apps are accepted into the app catalog.
