New in the App Catalog for 25 January 2010 33

by Derek Kessler Tue, 26 Jan 2010 9:32 am EST

App Catalog Well that’s more like it. Verizon launch day not only brought us two new phones and a much larger new carrier, it also brought us plenty of apps throughout the day. And unlike the apps that came late Sunday night, these came all through the day on Monday and mixed fun with irreverent with impressive with useful. With the obligatory smattering of “Why?” thrown in for good measure. Mostly the answer is “Because we could,” and really, is there any better reason than that? While you ponder that little nugget, I’ll invite you to jump past the break, where the new apps (including the impressive Assassin’s Creed) and updated apps alike are all listed.

A pretty good list imo.

dijit is a perv. And he is trying to spread the sickness they should put him in a cave with pics on the wall of nothing but naked men but then again he might like that also or maybe he has something against women.

Dijit isn't a perv. But what happens is he's noticed his girly apps are the ones that get downloaded. Look at his other apps; they barely have any ratings and they're bad ratings if they do get any.

Not his girly apps though. They actually get decent reviews meaning people are downloading them.

Hey, PreCentral, can't you just filter out the Dijit "apps" when doing these compilation. Just end with "and oh Dijit spammed with 2 more entries today"..

Would be nice to have a patch or something to completely filter Dijit (and others) out of the app store all together.

Yeah especially since I can just subscribe to the palm RSS feeds directly and get a list of every single app. These posts are kind of redundant now. It would be better to have highlights of the best new apps.

Be careful with your wishes... currently, RSS feeds doesn't handle properly multilingual apps, and those other languages more than english aren

omg - i totally agree! palm needs to publish total app count not counting the dijit apps and the fart apps ! *wonder how many iphone apps are dijit-like if you know what i mean *

HOLY SHIT! IM+!!!!

I was excited too until I saw there was no Skype support. ;-(

Palm must have seen my wishlist because IM+ for the Pre is on the list. For me a multi-platform messaging app is a must. Good to see Palm adding essential communications apps.

IM+ APP REVIEW PLEASE!!!!!!!
SKYPE INCLUDED?, IM Push notification via email included?
Avaible in Europe??????

LOL IM+ without Facebook chat.. they give you friggin' MySpace, but no Facebook. WHO USES MYSPACE ANYMORE!? It's the trailer park on the information superhighway!

Get your act together, Shape Services. A lot of nerve charging $10 for an IM client with no Facebook.

Especially on a platform that already includes integrated IM!

That protocol list looks an awful lot like Pidgin's list, which also does not have Facebook chat in its standard releases.

If this really is a webOS front-end to libpurple, that's a pretty ballsy move on the part of Shape Services.

There is a plugin for facebook chat:
http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/

My Home Keyboard is THE app for anyone with language needs not met by the Pre.
I've been Beta testing it since last Wednesday and it's already made it's way to my quick launch bar.
Not only can I type things like hearts and music notes (things the Pre can display out of the box but not type), but combined with the custom fonts I already had installed, I can now type in Klingon!
(Other "more practical" users may wish to use Hebrew or Russian)

there you go again derek, putting a lil slam against sprint... When you say we gain a much larger carrier why don't you add overpriced! Not worth the money... You keep verizon and there so called better network... P.s. When is verizon planing on going 4g ? Prolly next decade..lol I wish you would stop slamming sprint every chance you get

Its not a slam on sprint to say verizon is a much larger carrier. It actually is a much larger carrier. It has many more subscribers, broader reach, and more name recognition. Yes verizon is expensive and yes late to the game for top notch smartphones, but relax a little. Derek said much larger carrier (which it is), he did NOT say much better carrier.

+1

Man, cut Derek some slack! Some people really need to lighten up about this whole Sprint/Verizon thing. On a strictly numbers comparison, Verizon IS the larger carrier. Whether either one is a better network, well... that question deserves its own website.

I was with Verizon, and now I'm with Sprint. Both networks have their pros/cons...But I do enjoy Sprint's prices =)

Another thing I think a lot of users overlook between the two carriers. The Sprint GPS Nav program rocks. Very quick to calculate routes. real time traffic included and lots of options. The point is that free app and more importantly the use of the app is free with Sprint. If you want to use the Nav systetm on the Pre Plus with Verizon, it'll cost you 10 bucks every month. This is above and beyond their already pricier plans.

....

Totally nice to see my application JigJumble show up on the list!

Yeah, can't get enough of those awesome picture puzzle games....... /sarcasm

I presume you haven't looked at it then!
It is a jigsaw-style game for webOS phones and definitely different from the wide variety of picture puzzle games.

I need a LONDON TUBE MAP APP!!!! this will be very popular in London everyone who has an iphone has it and i need it. Also a TV TIMES app would be awesome!

you could try finding a very hires pick of the london tube map until they release one.

I need.......a Pre then I can throw my two cents in on apps, but until Monday I will watch and read everyone else's gripes, complaints and celebrations.

still waiting for an app like KeyCaps...wish I knew how to program...I might even make a buck! Hint..hint :)

Did anyone else notice that the v1.11 update for TealLevel Flight, RV, and Bubble Gauge adds "compatibility with upcoming webOS 1.4"? Are any other apps updating to support that already?

What a good feeling to see that Pre-Users with official carriers are having a good time with the app catalog.

For the rest of us - there are quite a few countries in Europe where users import the unlocked versions - we're still screwed and have no access....

Number of available free apps at the moment: 177!

(Maybe I have to take some cash in my pocket fly over to California and put it on Rubinstein's table, and he can then throw the apps I want on my memory stick and I fly back, since they don't seem to trust my credit card)

WHERE IS IM+ APP???

Good one......important apps still missing at the moment are:

Agile's long anounced IM App

Dataviz' Dox-to-Go

Anybody know when they will be released? It would make my Palm experience complete.....

well, except for the non-working app catalog......but I think I already said that =)
