New in the App Catalog for 28 February 2011 15

by Derek Kessler Tue, 01 Mar 2011 1:23 pm EST

Okay, yes, it’s been far too long since our last App Catalog update. Things got a little out of hand, and then Appible went and dumped an entire public domain books library in the Catalog, and, well... it’s a lot. But we’re back, and hopefully it’ll be more manageable from here on out. If it’s not, well, we don’t want to think about that.

  • Crypto Lists lets you keep your personal info safely locked away behind a password wall, and encrypted on your phone.
  • Fling!! is a new timewaster for webOS; simply push the plushy little furballs around until you’ve only got one left.
  • Groupon for webOS gives you access to Groupon coupons on the go.
  • Notation is a simple and straightforward note-taking app. Sometimes simple is the best solution (actually it usually is)

There’s more – a lot more – after the break. Grab some coffee first.

Wow, glad I wasn't responsible for having to create this post! LOL
Nice job :)

Poor Derek! How long did it take to make that list?

Man, Brighthouse Labs has some serious catching up to do.

I need to pass on some advice that Verwon gave me one time when discussing the flood of book 'apps' that come out from time to time...

"My goodness man (or woman...forgive me, I don't know)! Don't give Brighthouse Labs any ideas!"

Uhm...yeah...when you put it like that...please accept my apology.

And it's "man". :-)

Police test app :D LOL

I love CryptoNotes much better the other password apps and it FREE!

I will have to check out some of these.

The ONE app I am looking for is the VOICE RECORD for my Pixi Plus!!! I am so pissed off at this point that I don't know what to do. I refuse to carry another device with me. This would be pointless if you have smartphone.

As much as I hate Android I have been looking hard into that camp. I need OFFICE, functional PDF viewer and Voice Record! Is that too much to ask? My cheap and old Palm Centro can do all that. If something doesn't happen soon I may need to switch to another OS :( I can't wait forever for Pre 3 and is it even coming to Verizon? I may have to jump ship and then come back in time for Pre 4? Ughhh I am so TIRED of waiting. I need 2.0 and flash too in order to stay. I can't believe that HP just can't live up to their promises. What a shame.

Some interesting apps, but, sorry, I have no use for "CallBook" (don't tell anyone, but I'm in the Jehovah Witness Protection Program...).

I cant imagine people buying stuff right now with the lack of any real news about what carriers are getting which phones. I know im not spending any money on apps anymore.

So true! I am sitting on the fence right now with love/hate HP/Palm relationship.

I am not spending any more of my hard earned money at this point. As much as I love WebOS I am a bit worried about our lovely OS' future. So far I am seeing HP repeating Palm's mistakes all over in terms of product offerings and their marketing.

I feel like WebOS is losing it's momentum in the market with barely any hardware on the shelves for some time and at least till summer.

The only way HP and WebOS can succeed IMHO is by licensing their OS to hardware manufacturers similar to Android and Microsoft. Apple may be the only company to pull of this hard task with their extensive and hypnotized fan-base which HP does not have and unlikely to have in the near future. I hope I am wrong since I adore WebOS more than any other OS. At this point I really don't know what to do.

There are a lot of people who don't follow the news on webOS. I imagine those are the people buying stuff right now.

If you can't imagine people buying stuff right now for $0.99 to $4.99 because they don't know if it's worth it then imagine what developers are thinking. They are the ones who will be putting the hours into a platform that is going nowhere fast. I'm sure plenty have decided that they aren't going to spend the time and effort until and unless webOS proves itself in the market. No more of this "has a lot of potential" ****

So true and so sad at the same time since it does have a lot of potential but if they don't do something quick they will run this ship aground soon.

What is the app count after that, and is there a way to see the count in 2.1's new app catalog?

Breakdown is as follows:

main catalog -> 5978
web catalog -> 359
beta catalog -> 220

Total -> 6557

I don't have numbers by OS version.
